I dont see the confusion 4 pairs of gloves = two packages = 2 dollars.

There packaged 2 pairs in one pack, and they have the exact same 2 for $1 sticker on the package... So I grab 2 packages for a total of 4 pairs of gloves.

It isnt two packages for a dollar it is two gloves for a dollar.

I think it was deceptive advertising at best. Most people, including myself would read it the way Darryl did.

PS, I never heard of Thorton's either. I _promise_ I'll never go to one. :Brow:

Back when I was managing another location of the printing Co. I work for, we had a self serve copier out in the lobby for walk in traffic that wanted onesy, twosy copies. only 5 cents.
If you wanted better, I would do them for you on the bigger Xerox high speed for a $2.00 minimum.

Well, we had this old guy that would come in, make copies and bitch about the price and quality. and how he could get them a mile up the road for 3 cents at a gas station.
Every time he would say the same thing. This went on for years.
Finally, after not seeing him for a couple of months, he walks in the door, looks at the copier and says, "You still got that POS copier!?"
I said, "Yep! and we still have the same door too!"

    Never saw him again.
    I was so hurt.

Unless I knew you as a good regular customer, in which case I would have given them to you for a buck, I would probably prefer you left and never came back.

    Darryl Roederer Life is good

I paid off my Thorntons credit card last night, online, to the tune of $803... Is that "regular customer" enough for you? I'll be canceling the account later this week.

The package had the 2 for $1 sticker on it... There were other packages in the bin that only had 1 pair of gloves in them.

This was NEVER about a dollar, this whole thing was about deceptive advertising, and all I wanted to do was bring it to the managers attention.

But the manager tells me to 'F-off,
The local company tries to hide from me,
The corporation tells me it's not their problem,
I physically thrack down the local company, and they insult me....

I guess the only course of action I have left is to hire the lawfirm of "Dooey, Skruem, & Howe",,, and file a $million dollar lawsuit against 'em for false advertising, mental anguish, theft by deception, and poor gas mileage....

Of course I'm just kidding about that, but think about it... That's how most stupid crap gets started, then the company has to raise prices to cover the lawsuit,,,,, then everyone pays more.

My simple solution, stop doing business with them...... Maybe if enough of us follow that simple advice, they will lower prices [and stop ripping people off] to attract us back to their stores.

Just for your information Darryl, Mr Skruem has since retired from the practice. They did replace him with a very bright guy right out of law school named Richard Cheatham.

So its now Dooey, Cheatham & Howe

I wouldn't even waste my time doing business with those idiots. Go to another store. Time is money and the time you wasted with those idiots you could've bought gloves at full price from a hardware store and still saved money.

You could've just handed them back to the cashier, said "no, thanks" and gone to harbor freight like you were gonna do. Why get worked up over a stupid technicality. Some flunky made a mistake when labeling the gloves, the owner prolly thought all the gloves were single packs and had them labeled the as such, hence the error. The owners prolly not making 25 cents on the whole transaction, and someone wants to gripe about it. You got too much time on yer hands, bro! That owner might've just got 4 bounced checks that day, been ripped off by a vendor, had to throw out 300$ worth of stale food and now some guy wants to bitch about 50 cents. Go ahead, make it so the guy says UNCLE...I GIVE UP...hopefully you'll feel better and the world will be happier that you got your dollar back. Don't be pennywise and pound foolish, man, your not gonna "teach them a lesson" it just makes the world a miserable place. How many peoples time did you waste over this 1 dollar? People who have no control over it? Thats all gonna be reflected in the "cost of doing business" which is directly related to PRICES.

I would personally kick your ass and you would never be served in my shop again. You would be blackballed until you couldn't go ANYWHERE in town and get respect. I would also call the cops and have you arrested for causing a disturbance in a public place, and if you were the last customer on earth I would still refuse to serve you! Being an a$$ is the wrong way to get what you want. All thats gonna happen is everyone's gonna look at you like your crazy and keep a really close eye on YOU, not the actual conversation. And the guy behind the counter doesn't have the clout to give you money...it is what it is. Most cases like this are a simple mis-understanding that could be resolved peacefully...once you contact the right person. FYI the profit margin in a small business is not worth that type of aggravation...you can go somewhere else and cause a disturbance, all your doing if freaking people out!:Comp:

    im going to respectfully disagree to your disrespectful comment here;

he was the CUSTOMER of the company. their job is to serve him, and make sure he comes back, not just say, ah screw it, i havent had a good day so get the hell out of here. The manager didnt have a professional attitude, which they are to maintain, no matter what happens throughout the day. It was never about the dollar, it was about a little saying called "the customer is always right" professionalism and friendly service are all but dead thanks to people like you who dont care if theyre treated with respect, but demand it when theyre on the other end. thats backwards my friend.

holy crap, I hadn't read this thread since I posted. I'm not trying to be a jerk in my response, but I just read it before I posted it, and it comes across a bit harsh. if it offends anyone, PM me, and I'll delete. :beers2:

jeez you guys are going to throw some fistacuffs over this? calm down, here are the facts as I see them

-dispute over mislabled gloves, actually, mis-stickered gloves. you old guys need to realize that the cashier doesn't manually type in prices anymore. he or she scans the barcode and never thinks twice about it. if the two packs were on sale, it would have been in the computer, and it would have popped up when the bar code was scanned. I'll bet my balls to a bulldog that the cashier couldn't give a rats ass whats on sale, and has no clue what anything in the store costs. Bottomline, some smuck stuck the stickers on the wrong packs of gloves. in all reality, common sense should have told him that something was wrong.

-the store is at fault, someone one put stickers on the wrong packs. okay, they made a mistake. does that mean the store should be punished? does that automatically make him entitled to compensation? no, and no. IMHO, an adult would have realized that there was a mistake made, and left it at that. there is no reason to continue to argure. I'm sure you were aggrivated and less then polite to the manager. Like I said before, commonsense should have kicked in when you noticed single packs and double packs were marked at the same price, but with the double packs have twice the value. that doesn't make sense.

-the manager shouldn't have to give you a set of gloves just because the store made a mistake. they are not required to do anything, and its quite obvious you weren't going to leave happy either way, with or with out a free set of gloves. not to mention, as mentioned before, the manager knows she is only making 25 cents a pair, if that. and doesn't want to lose anymore money. she probably told you to take it up with corporate just to get you out of the store. she wasn't going to give you gloves, and you quite obviously are not happy about that... STILL, so there was no resolution to your conflict. she wasn't budgeing, and you weren't either. so the next step was to go higher. and again, commonsense would have to tell you that the gloves were marked wrong.

-The Corporation probably doesn't even know where that store is. And they likely could care less. the facts are the facts, you can't please everyone. and regardless of how much you complain, it doesn't make you right. you are not entitled to free gloves because the store made a mistake. period. whether the store chooses to give you something is their decision, BUT, you were not inconvienced in a terrible way, no harm or threat of harm was evident. only a bruised ego and maybe some embarassment. in fact, you didn't even lose a penny in the deal.
so, is the corporatation really going to give you the time of day? no. they recognized the situation for what it is, and sided with the store. at most they may have called the store owner, who likely talked to the manager, who would have the cashier as a witness, who would tell the boss what happened. and really, she probably handled it correctly.

    - the local office doesn't handle that sort of thing. i understand that you want to explain your situtation, but you have to talk to the right person. whether or not she purposely gave you the fax number is unknown.

so, I doubt this is a case of deceptive advertising, or a lack of customer service. I believe without a doubt a worker accidently mixed the two packs in with the single packs, and thats about that. you were never entitled to an extra pair just because the store made a mistake. the manager's logic was sound, two pairs for one buck. after seeing an identical product at one price, then seeing the same identical product in a two back for the same price, commonsense would have to tell you something was wrong.

The fact that it was only a dollar, makes ya think its not a big deal. but if you were walking through the summit store, and saw a BBB cylinder marked for $699 (no idea what they cost), then saw a pack with two BBB cylinder heads for $699, I would again bet my balls to a bulldog you wouldn't be raising hell at their customer service.

Also, thortons is likely a franchise, if thats the case, then it probably is locally owned and operated.

I'm not trying to come off as a jerk, or rattle your cage. no offense really. but I respectfully think you are wrong. :beers2: :beers2:

I am guessing that you own a store like this or have some connection to one somehow because that is the stupidest thing I have ever read. Ever, please feel free to post something else on the chance that you can top that one.

I pray for the day some 8 dollar an hour flunky working at a gas station has the lack of brains to attempt to kick my ass. I would love it for two things.

    1. proof that the gas jockey hit me first as it would be on video.
    2. I would be all over tv as the guy who beat a guy senseless with a nickel ads rack and then toppled a stack of 24 pack coke cans on a guys head.

I showed this thread to a couple of people. It was interesting. The person that had worked retail for felt that you were wrong. The person that had never worked retail felt you were right. I think that sums it up right there.

And "raising your voice" in a store? Would you want anybdoy doing that to you on your job site, no matter where it is? Not cool, by any stretch of the imagination.

It comes down to customer service and there wasn't any in this case. He didn't get it at the store now was he able to get it from the corporate office. At this point it's best to just walk away. But the manager was out of line for acting link they did to a customer who was just asking a general question about the price.

I worked in retail for many years at various levels and the customer is always right. Even when I was working in a small store in a big chain the manager and employees of that store had the power to make discisions such as this incident to make the customer happy and safe face at the same time.

    Great Thread:beer
