I have been racing and building engines for 25 years now. I bought my skylark 10 years ago and drove it with the 350 for five or so years and then mothballed it until I assembled all the pieces to build the truly fun car that I have now . The buick makes a great street performer for cheap-- a basic motor with iron heads and cast manifolds will spin the tires as long as you hold down the pedal.
The reality is , you can make anything fast if you want to . I dont put all of the cars that I own in my description. I also own a lowered 85 Volvo wagon (NA)with 2 webbers,Carrillo rods, big cam,two hits of nitrous,17 inch wheels, recaro seats--on and on . Yes I got a lot of parts from Sweden to do the build up. Hey guess what they have a site too www.turbobricks.com.

I know a lot of guys dont like the BBC swaps , but you shouldnt knock the motor. It is a stout piece that even with stock pieces --no halo, 2 bolt mains ,no aftermarket heads, stock junk rods-- basically a rollor cam swap will get you a low 9 second et. I have one for sale right now and the reason it hasnt sold is because its so easy to duplicate.

The chevy swap is easy , you guys know it . Its just the frame mounts and a trans swap and its done. Sounds a lot like a 455 BBB swap doesnt it ? I like my skylark and I am glad I stuck with buick power. 20 years ago there was very spotty aftermarket support for the BOP and it made it tough to build one. Even now there are just a few sources for the parts for a buick build up.Yes they are there but you HAVE to go to TA or Buldogg or whatever. How many manufacturers make heads for BBC--countless.

Until things like that 1000 hp 350 SBB show up in a magazine or the aftermarket blocks begin the ship and show up at the race track going fast, the easy alternative is always going to be the swap. I WANTED to stay buick , I have enough pieces laying around I could have put a 540 BBC in mine (aroung 850 HP--not on factory piece in it ). If what this guy has lying around is a 305 (yikes) then help the guy out with a 350 SBB. Hell I gave mine to the junkman when I made my swap. If I knew anybody would have wanted it they could have had it.
To me a car guy is just that . I dont like NASCAR but I appreciate the technology that it takes to spin those things that hard for that many miles.
The buick is cool but it has a lot going against it . Too big a crank journal, oiling issues etc. It has been well documented here on this board. Anything has its niche market. If you want to go fast with it you can but it has its limitations.

Anybody wanna race a 2800 lb 300 horsepower station wagon? (plus 200hp on the bottle)
Have fun guys . Its just a hobby.

The more people use Chevy motors, the more rare and expensive your "real" Buicks will become... quit whining and let people enjoy their cars in their own way.

Thats kinda goofy ,how Buick is more money to build, but not worth more than the Chevy.
I pesonally don't like any different engine in any different car. If it's a Skylark and you want to put a Chevy in it...why didn't you buy a Chevelle ,Nova etc.I really don't like old Ford hotrods with Chevies in them, the flathead Ford is a great looking powerplant.

But,it's your car,do what you want.

Sometimes I think these so called "kids" are doing it just for laughs. Hmmm, say that we are scaring them off, good excuse, but if they were serious about there precious car and project they wouldn't post one and leave forever. Kinda makes you wonder, doesn't it? Maybe I should go pester some of the chevy boards, see if they like it. Nawww, im not that kind of person. But seriously, kicks is more of it. I am sure there are people who need help with it, but if it's a chevy motor going into a buick, does asking it in the buick race 400 430 455 or small block tech or any of the buick motor sections really make sense? You can buy a buick 350 cheaper than some chevy small blocks. Some people have said in the past they can buy some sbb 350's in a junkyard for 50 bucks a pop, of course they need rebuilt, but that is cheap, not expensive, and sometimes you can pick up BBB's for pretty close to that as well. Everybody is entitled to their opinion(s), and this is the last post I will be making on this thread, but I think after re-reading it, I have made my view clear.

    Thanks
