I know a guy who demos cars. He mostly uses early/mid 70s GM wagons, alot of them are Buicks. He likes the 400 SBC engines for demos so that is what he uses, he has had the same 400 in about a million cars now. Anyway my point is I am glad he puts a chevy in the Buicks because he has a bunch of 455 Buick motors sitting around. Every 455 I have had I got from him but one, they all needed to be rebuilt but its nice to know if I ever need a core motor to rebuild he has them. I know this isn't what this tread is about but in this case I am glad to see him burn up Chebby motors and not 455/350 Buicks. I have helped him set up the demo cars at times to get a deal on a 455. I wish I had the money and a place to keep them I would buy a bunch of 455s from him. I haven't seen him in a couple years so I don't know if he still has them but he had probably 10 complete 455s sitting around at one time. Most of them are 74,75 year motors so he didn't have much for early heads. I know he tries to run them before he pulls them to at least see if they are in runable shape and don't have a rod broke or what ever in them. I used to be a diehard BBC guy years ago, I even had a 65 GTO with a 402 chevy in it and a 68 camaro with a 427 and a 4 speed. Then I got a 1980 regal with a blown up V6 and put a mild 400 chevy in it. Then at the drags one day a low 11s 70 GSX clone pulled up next to me in the staging lanes and it idled so mean it shook the windows in my car and from then on I had to have a 455 myself so I found a rough 72 skylark with no motor and threw in a stock low comp 455 with stock intake and stock exhaust manifolds and the tiny stock dual exhaust and it was as fast as the 65 GTO with the 402 with a 4 speed cam and headers so I was real impressed right from the start, this was back in 93 and I still have the same car to this day and it still pump gas steetable low buck car and it has run 11:31. The 427 camaro I had never ran that good. I don't like it either when a chebby goes in a Buick but what others want to do is not my problem. I have given a few chebby guys a ride in my car and they get out pretty quiet most times. Sorry for my life history here but I just wanted to add my 2 cents on how I wised up. :3gears: :TU: Tom

Rick beat me to the question about Ford 9-inch et. Al.

Wow, for a three-page thread I'd think more people would understand what Chris was saying, which I agree with whole-heartedly.

How can people misconstrue such an aptly stated sentiment. To be nice does not mean one must agree, and is not contrary to stating an opinion. Yes, many different personalities make up the world, but civilized people tend to share certain social moores dispite differences.

Many judgements I've read about a person asking about swapping in a Chevy clearly show that some people have judged the person before full knowledge of the situation. I know it is frustrating to hear someone thinks a Chevy is better in general, but to assume this is prejudice.

Personally, I think someone should put a Buick in a Buick if at all possible. However, insulting someone is more likely to drive them away - to a group that will support their idea.

Will being insulted change someone's mind? Or will an explaination of why it might be better to stick to Buicks have a higher succcess rate.
To disagree and state why, in a civil manner may actually keep more Buicks powered by Buick engines. (This rationale applies to so many things.)

The by-product of this possibility is that there would be less to dislike and insult; I trust at least a few here get the inference.

    Going Fast with Class,, eh?

All I have to say now is my goal was to raise awareness of the problem as I see it, and I've done it.

I'm not here to win any popularity contests. I could BS the lot of you all day long but I don't. I hope some of you appreciate that I'm not here blowing a lot of smoke up your butts. I see a problem, I say something about it. That's my modus operandi. I have no problem being 'the bad guy' for a lot of you. Quite frankly, that's your problem not mine. But I can't sit still and do nothing when I see a problem. I guess that this is a pretty outdated view on life, but Men are supposed to act like it and I do that to the best of my ability, which means doing what needs to be done even though it's not popular. Taking a stand just comes with the territory sometimes

I also know that some of you will think that's a bunch of total BS. Other folks here have actually met me and know what I'm about:TU: See you on the road

Ouch Yards. $300 wouldn't even get you the distributor off my BBC. 3 times that still wouldn't even touch the carb..... :moonu: :pp

So it sounds like your saying that alot of us (including myself) use the Ford 9" rear end because it's the easier way to go? Did I read your statements correctly?
Think about that for a second.
Then read alot of the posts in this thread.
Am I the only one who gets a little chuckle out of the irony? :puzzled: :pp
    :Do No: :TU:

For the record.... I purchased a tubbed Monza for the sole reason of dropping the BBC into it to sell it. Nobody wants to buy an engine that hasn't been proven, especially from a nobody like me. Having it in a running car will help me sell it.The monza is set up for a SBC so it's taking a bit of work to drop the BBC into it. The plan is to finish it, sell it, and use the funds to get to work on the BBB for the tubbed 67. It'll be a 9 second rocket and the motor is fresh. Should be able to get a fairly nice chunk of change out of it.

Also for the record.... While I consider myself a "Buick guy", I'd have to say I'm probably more of a "car guy" period. There's alot of Chevy's I'd like to have. And as far as that goes, I could compile a pretty long list of "dream cars" I'd like to have, and they would span every make from Ford to Mopar. Buick is in my blood, but when it comes down to it, I like most all musclecars regardless of what emblem they have on the grill. Buick just happens to be my favorite.

My sentiments exactly. However, it still is wierd that people ask stuff about hybriding a car on a strictly buick site. I have a few cars that aren't buicks, and when I want information about them I go to sites specializing in those makes.

That is still no reason to be mean. I get that attitude from countless parts guys. I never go back to those establishments.
