Ignition Jason, Using a Pertronics with a Blaster II coil and two steps colder on the plugs .. I think 43's. Yes I have a 800 q-jet. Vac. is marginal at idle but works. Will be adding a 4 core radiator and an MSD-6AL for Spring (NOS). David
more info I am running about 175 shot nos. 30x9 ET drags very tight squeeze 1/16 clearance in and out with edges rolled and trim is shaved down Convo pros 8.5 rears 4inch fronts 12 bolt 4.10 just sold now M W 12 bolt 373 +TA cover th350 JW 9" nitrous convertor summit billet fuel pump with stock tank with sump No hop bars 90/10 fronts Carb is 800 holley DP slight mods Ta 3" full exhaust dynomax muffs hood is glass 4.5 cowl WS racing Car all steel with glass street driven no problem 6 point molly bar run autolites 1 step colder no sure what # is off hand timing 28 degrees have not ran the car off the bottle in a long time except last year when the nitrous wire fell off the switch went 12.6 with the timing 6 degrees retarded. best 60 foot 1.61 and dropping ring gap is set at standard gap, when built was intended to be my daily driver and was for about a month. What I like best is when someone sees the car at the track and says thats a 350! I thought it was a good running 455! I think thats about it. o No:
Launch Jeff, When do you hit the NOS? How do you launch? What are your plugs gapped at? Fuel pressure? This is so helpful to me before I try NOS on mine. Thanks for all the input Jeff!! David
I second Daves remarks. Jeff we need a little more info. Let me tell you about my setup. 1972 350 bored 30 over forged 10.25 to 1 pistons block decked 20 thou. ring gap set at 16 thou. heads decked 5 thou. stock valves stock rods with ARP bolts 10 thou. over crank turned 10 thou. under TA 212 cam advanced to 106* stage 1 intake New 750 Speed Demon carb. 2500 stall Pertronix ignition ACCEL coil Autolite 25 spark plugs gapped to 45 thou. ( I think I need to change this to a shorter gap) Car with me and full tank of gas weighs in at a wopping 4100 lbs. TH 350 trans and 273 open rear. ( Can you say traction sucks?) Best time at the track 15.51 at 92 mph Next mod. change the rear to a 12 bolt with 350 or 373 gears. Haven't decided on which gear set just yet. Jeff I noticed you put your running only 28* of timing. Do you have your vacume advance hooked up? what is your initial timing and what happens when you bump the timing up past 30*? Thanks for all the info. I know this will help some of us get our cars running a lot faster.
launch I leave the line on the bottle, hook a micro switch to your excellerator pump arm. When you are at full throttle its on. Fuel pressure is 7 lbs. ,plugs at 30. I still have alot to play with. Pay close attention to your total timing. Also someone asked about my bearings, engine has been in the car for 9 years havent seen them since then. i have no oil pressure problems, might pull them soon to see whats going on. Were any of you 350 guys at Etown 8/31/02? Jeff
info Jason, I do not have a vac. adv.. I think my mech. advance is 20 deg. so my inital is 8 deg.. I run it 28 deg. for nitrous if I ran it at 30 I would have holes in the tops of my pistons. Off the bottle I run 34 degrees. Jeff
Jeff you said your plugs are gapped at 30 thou. is that correct? What type of dis. are you using and do you have any ign. boxes in use?
How about a 73 Apollo with a "stock" 350 running a best so far of 11.67 @ 112?? OK, not really stock, stock, but NHRA stock. Stock crank stroked .013, stock rods with ARP bolts. Venolia pistons .072 deep dish with 17.3 cc volume dish. Stock lift cam, .408/.392 from Bullet. Cam has PLENTY of duration though. Heads are UNPORTED and UNPOLISHED with stock size valves. Stock size vavle springs with stamped steel stock rocker arms. TA adjustable push rods. Pistons are .040+ in the hole. Stock cast intake manifold. 38' total timing. T350 trans done by Lupo. 2.75 first gear. 4.56 Richmond Gears with Moser axles. M/T 30x9 slicks. With almost 400 runs on "old" engine, I think it could be street driven. Nice work folks! Keep those 350's running! BTW, I could use a STOCK 350 intake from a 73 and/or 74 Buick. Thanks, Isaac isaac.j.zane@exxonmobil.com
Isaac - It's nothing short of amazing, what you guys are able to do with (what some would consider) so little!!:bglasses: Hard to believe something that 'stock' could go so quick!! What kind of duration do you guys run? Spring pressures? Keep up the good work!!:TU:
His duration has to be brutal, but it would be nice to learn more about how he did (does) it! And who it Bullet cams? I'll do a web search and post findings. Love those fast 350's!
Yes - Probably all kinds of great threads buried w/in here. I assume the GS118 is a copy of KB C118 which ran great for me as did my KB Mark 2 - Considering KB ran the same profiles for the 350 & 455 maybe just got lucky. IMHO, anecdotally TA doesn't have their 350 cams dialed in but I'm no expert. Seems guys on here should be running better. I'll be having one custom ground for my next 350.
Now you have to wonder where are all these guys at today I see there are a couple. 10sec455 had the 350 running good I started to do it in 2005 and still using it today I am only using a 75-80 shot now and getting low 12's. I was running 11.81@114 with the 125 shot and I did the same thing 28* of timing on the bottle with colder NGK plugs. with a low 30-35 gap. the 1.60 60ft with a 3500 stall was exciting launching off the bottle. Would like to hear what happened to 10sec455's 350 and where the heck are the rest of yo 350er's at sitting ?? here comes 2023 faster than you can imagine This thread is from 2003 you all see how much time you all been wasting talking here and not doing here. 20 yrs folks ijustfarted
My 83 regal with a 350/350 and 3.42 gears Ran 14.4 around 91 mph. 2000 converter. Poston 118 cam , poston hyperutectic pistons. Dual catalyst converters. Stock intake and exhaust.
1 5/8 headers, dual exhaust, 800cfm q-jet, 200-4R trans with a 3.73 rear. Bone stock 1972 350 long block with stock cam. If I ever get caught up on other projects in life I'd love to build another 350 for drag and drive events.
I went back to the last page in 2002 and started skimming through the threads clicking on the ones that interested me. This forum is amazing.
Built my 1st one progressively in late 80's. Consistent 14.0 @ 104! If only I'd have known squat about engine/suspension tuning before bending a valve. Should've been capable of low 13's. 2nd full build in '98. Then life got in the way. Never got it to the track but Jan (@BuickGSrules) bought the car & w/his engine/suspension tuning acumen said it ran a best 11.61 (NA). Quicker than I thought it would go but when I look at the 104 MPH on the 1st build & the differences on the 2nd build plus in the hands of someone w/Jan's racing experience, it was certainly w/in the realm of poss. Both pretty basic builds too. We didn't have much to work with. So been there. And will be again.
