I'm interested in knowing what other Buick fans are running in the 1/4 mile with thier '70 350 Buicks.I'm not talking about full race cars I'm talking about fully streetable, drive anywhere reliable cars that can cut the mustard and still look like factory stock:bglasses:
not sure I'm honestly not sure. and i live so close to great lakes dragway too maybe somthign for me to do come spring I know my top end speed (highway speed) acceleration sux. (need to rebuld the two bbl but have four bbl on the way to rebuild)
350 time Best time for my 72 350 Ragtop in the 1/8 is 8.48 at 86mph ... which should equate to mid to low 13's. Will try some small slicks and a shot of N2O this spring. Can drive the car anywhere .. very street friendly. David
Hi david. Can you post what you've done to your 350 so far ?Im looking to get my car into the high13s low 14s, and I'ld like to know what it takes to get there. Thanks, Jeremy. P.s. What N2O set up are you going to run?
Faster than my 2002 Z28 6 speed stripper model, which should do low 13's no problem. My friend, who has made hundreds of passes in his life says "Definate 12's". The dragstrip is 1.5 hours away. Someday I'll get there!
My Combo Jeremy my combo, 350 .30 over forged pistons 10.75-1cr Ported and polished heads and Stg.1 intake GS118 cam and 800 Qjet by John O. Poston headers to 3" X to 2 1/2 exhaust Dynamax mufflers 200-4r with 2800 stall to 3.73 10 bolt posi N20 NOS Sniper kit adj from 75 to 175hp shot..I will start at 75 Traction with BFG Radials is already a big problem. Engine dyno'd 375hp at 5500 and 400tq at 4700 David
Who did you have port your heads? I've been thinking about building another 350, and would like to order a set of fully ported and assemblied heads with larger 1.92 and 1.55 valves. Thanks again.
That's good info, David! Looks like that 118 cam really does work! Man, that is wide lobe centers... Mine is an older Crane on 112 lobe centers, installed straight up, .480" Intake lift, .500" exhaust. I lost the cam card, but it was "Advertised Duration" of 278 intake and 282 exhaust. Did you port the heads yourself? Also - how did you get such high compression? I am using the Speed Pro 10.25 pistions with mildly milled heads / decked block and .030 copper head gaskets with "O" Ringed block. Was planning on heavy N2O at one time
specs Speed Freaks did the whole motor including the heads .. which do have the big valves .. 73 or 74 year heads. Pistons are 0 in the hole and the heads and intake were cut .. but not sure how much. New 74 rods with ARP bolts also. She sure sounds more like my 462 then a 350:stmad: David
69 skylark 3640 lbs. 11.22 at 117 with a bad ignition box.Engine would act like it was hitting rev. limiter and would not rev past 5400 rpm. Spent all summer trying to figure the problem out, will go 10's this year for sure. Love that NOS! :jd: Jeff
Your Combo Jeff, Tell us about your combo, engine, car, how much nitrous are you running, etc.? Thanks, David
Here's my times in my stock bore/rebuild `72 Skylark (see sig.). Additions from factory are 800 cfm Q-Jet, headers, HEI, battery in trunk, boxed control arms and TCI Breakaway converter. I'm running 3.42 posi and 255/60R 15's in the rear. Top-end pull was obviously limited due to a poorly installed 2" dual exhaust system with H-pipe. Car weights 3940 lbs. wet with me in it (180 lbs).
I would love to here this combo.I have a friend working on a 350 with like 12.8 to 1 and plans to put NOS on it. I on the other hand am biluding a 65 lark that has AC/PWR, Steering and pwr brakes. I sure could use a hand on getting thw most out of my 350 and not lose the vacum. Any one got an Idea????? Thanks Doug
My 350 There really isnt much to it. I started out building a budget 350 for a daily driver and this is where it ended up. the only things I changed are trw .030 forged pistons 73 cap screw rods with STOCK BOLTS Ta stage 1 intake Ta 310 cam 1 3/4 headers made by myself heads ported by myself with STOCK SMALL VALVES big holley DP carb Cheater nos system stage 3 11.22 at 117 Still has a lot left in it also! I will try to post a picture of the car from Etown, pulls the drivers front tire about 6 inchs
Jeff - How much do you open up your ring end gaps for the NOS?? Sounds like an amazingly simple combo!! How often do you tear the engine down? What kind of bearing wear are you seeing? Thanks!:TU:
How much NOS Jeff, How much NOS have you tried? Tell me about your fuel system, type of fuel and timing? What about the rest of your car ie. trans, tq converter, rearend and tires? Thanks Jeff .. sounds like a hot combo, David
Jeff is this car streetable? This sounds like a wicked ride I just wouldn't think you could drive it on the street much. David what kind of ignition are you using and what type of plugs? I just finished the rebuild on my 350 and am some what dissapointed with some of my results. I'm using the TA 212 cam and I only get 9-12 in. of vacume at idle in gear. What kind of vacume are you guys getting? Is every one using a Q-jet? what model of holly are you using if you have one. So many questions. So few answers.
