Has anyone seen shortie headers for the 350?
All I can find is some for the 400/430/455.

    Mark,

I put my headers on once the engine and tranny was in. I fed them up through the bottom. You'll want the car up really high to do this. The only trouble I had I mentioned earlier in this thread was were they hit. Thats the area that I modified. Again see previous photo's. They really did go in with nearly no grief! Are you sure we have the same one's? Mine are Hooker super comps for a Buick 350 Skylark chassis. Good luck.

    Thanks Dan.
I'm not sure if these are for the Skylark chassis. I do know they are Super Comps and I can't get the car too high off the ground. We did try to feed them up from the bottom but couldn't get them to clear the ground.
Did you have the engine sitting in the motor mounts, bolted on?
    Thanks,

I think thats the problem. You have to have the car high enough that the header can be held nearly vertically. Nearly meaning about three quarters of the way, feeding the front of the header up first. Thats how it worked for me. Have you modified or dimpled the area I showed you in the picture? I really think with height will come sucess! I'm tellin' you, mine went in tooooooooooo easy. Don't give up.

By the way, nice looking engine! The car looks pretty darn good to! I always liked those Z-28 wheels.

    I won't give up yet.
I was almost afraid to put my car picture up there because of the Z-28 wheels. There's a whole lotta Chevy haters on this site. I actually cropped the picture down to sort of hide them.
Thanks for the compliment though. The other stuff you can't see is the rust coming through the bottom of the doors. That's my next project. I'll work on the header dimples like you showed me and hopefully we'll have a finished project soon.
    Again, my deepest thanks.

Now I'm curious what the differences are.
I went ahead and mounted the engine and left the passenger side header on. I then crawled under the car to see how bad the "marked" area was hitting the A-arm. Much to my suprise, that portion of the header is about 2 inches behind it. It fits perfectly without any touching areas.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if when I lift the car to install the driver side header if it will fit as easily as it did for you. Kind of one of those win some lose some cases.

Did you use the V6 motor mounts or just leave the 350 ones on the motor?

You gotta use the V-6 mounts! The V-8 ones won't work.

Just checking to see if we did anything differently. I'm using the V6 mounts. I'm just wondering why my header fit so good without modifications.
I'll take a picture tomorrow to show you how far back it sits.

    Wow,

Thats some good clearance! I hope the driver side works well. On mine I was able to put the starter on after I bolted on the header. Went right up. Is yours like that?

    alec296 i need another buick

    350 shorty headers

i called ta on this and they said there was not enuff interest for them to look into it. andy

    Thanks Andy!

Dan, I put the starter on afterwards as well. It was a little snug but no biggie. I put the wiring on first then bolted it on. The driver side just barely touches at the A-arm. I figure it will make it's own dent for clearance if it has to. I did have to hammer the second pipe to clear the front side of the motor mount. I got everything in and hooked up the wiring and turned the key over and now I think I have a short somewhere. The buzzer sounds when the key is in the hole but when I try to turn it over, everything goes dead. When I turn the key back to the start position the buzzer comes on again. I'm going to go through the Chilton manual to double check my wiring unless you have some suggestions to try.
I'll probably be at it again after church tomorrow.
    Take care,

Mine did the same thing once. The ground wire on the battery was loose. Check your terminals.

I have my battery ground cable going to the header. I'm thinking it's not grounding there because it goes, cheap pot metal bolt through the ground cable through the header which is up against a gasket against a blue painted engine block.

I'm going to clean the terminals and put the ground cable somewhere else.

One thing I noticed was I got under the car to be sure there was enough clearance from the heat shield over the starter (making sure the positive cable wasn't touching the shield). I was pushing up on the heat shield with a screw driver and accidentally touched the positive wire to the heat shield with the screw driver. I was preparing myself for the big spark arc but it was more or less a little zapp. Nothing much at all. That makes me think there is ground problem somewhere.

    I'll let you know tomorrow.

I guess if you've gotten that far that means the headers are on?:TU: Your heat shield fits? Mine didn't. So far, no adverse effects. Sound like your almost ready for a drive!

    Got VRROOOOOOMMM!!! :TU:

Now I just need to put the belts on. They appear to be too short now for some reason. I'm thinking I didn't swap the lower pulley with the V6 engine. Is it smaller than the 350 pulley?

Also, how did you overcome the length of the air conditioning hose being too long?

Otherwise, I got the motor to turn over at 6am. It was an awesome sound with only headers on there. I only ran it for a couple of seconds because I don't have the radiator hooked up yet. I didn't want to run it much more than that anyway for fear the neighbors would have the cops called on me because of the noise.

Seems to me the V-6 lower pulley was the same. I have NOT overcome the A/C hose issue yet. I'm working on it. I tried Olds Cutlass V-8 lines, but the compressor sits different from Buick so they don't line up. There is a place nearby me that custom makes A/C lines. I'll probably visit them when I have some extra $$$$. Glad you are running:TU: :TU: :TU: :TU: :TU:
