It's an early kind of Zip Code. My POP has "New Orleans 26"

Hi Nicholas. Actually, the Zip Code for my NYC dealership is 10019.

On your POP, that 19-357 is actually the "dealer code".

Look at your POP again, the address says "New Orleans 26". My dealership address says "New York 19". It's this "19" number that I am wondering about, much the same as your "26" number following the city name.

    Interesting stuff.

    Ken
I am aware that 19-357 is the dealer code. I was referring to the "26" after New Orleans, which is parallel to the "19" after New York.

The New York address is now zip code 10019, and the New Orleans address is now 70126

How often do those two-digit codes appear in the book? I'm guessing they are on many of the big city dealers.
Try typing the addresses into a mapping site, like Yahoo maps. I'll bet they all come out to be the last two digits of the current zip code for that address

Gotcha Nicholas. I misunderstood your original post.

    That makes sense now.

    Ron,
I had both a Stage 1 GSX and a 1973 Gran Sport Stage 1 that came from DL Claborn Buick. The dealership was not in Stone Mountian but the SW side of Atlanta proper. The area they were in turned pretty ugly, and the business folded in the early 1990's if I recall correctly. Don McIntosh bought his 1970 Stage 1 there brand new. He has a few stories to share about them. The son, Lee Claborn, had a reputation of "driving" all the Stage cars. Don left specific instructions that his car was not to be driven and wanted to be there when it came off the trailer.

Evans. We have a Gene Steffy's Chrysler here in Fremont, NE and he owns the Ford Dealership in Columbus, NE. Wonder if they are related somehow. Very interesting though, just the same.

  18. Mike, what I am trying to establish is that Fields Buick was still open in 1968. Is that what your documentation reflects, or were you making sure I had the dealer code?

I'm trying to find out during what year Lustine bought Buick out. :beer

    Thank you for your help!

Joe, I was not sure what you were looking for but I can tell you that I have some documentation that shows they sold cars from 1970 to 1981 (my documentation only covers the years 1970 thru 1981). They may have been open past 1981 but I cannot tell, my guess is that they were open past 1981 since they sold 294 cars that year.

    Hope this helps...
