    Yacster,

I got a couple of JEN U WHINE Mexican blankets you can use for seat covers.

I saw a couple of rods at the Good Guys in Kansas City when it was here Labor Day weekend. As you said, the cars drawing the most attention were the rusted bodied, gunny-sacked upholstered, cars running late model drive trains. One 34 Ford four door looked as if had just been pulled from the river banks except for the tires and the modern EFI V8 - didn't even have a coil, it was running a coil pack on top of each plug. Strange combo. This is the first show at which I'd seen cars from the 50's and 60's where the interior was redone back to stock, the engine may have had some upgrades, but the paint on the bodies was still sun bleached 40 - 50 year old paint.

Yeah, they do draw a crowd.:eek2: I was on Eastwood's site and found Ratrod matte black finish kit for $95.00. the great thing about this is this will be the first car I ever painted and if it doesen't look right-it will be good.

Just thought I'd post some updated pics. I recieved the trunk pans& Braces, trunk to 1/4 extensions (can't figure them out yet) the D/S fender patch. I am awaiting the 1/4 patch panels. I have done some small sheet metal patches on the rear tail pan where it meets the trunk floor pan. My first fabrications and I did ok if I do say so myself. Here are some pics of the progress. . . enjoy :TU: :beers2:

    Thanks Wilfred -
Got the 1/4 patches from Fed ex today. They look good. Wheel wells are cut just right, but it is a hell of a lot of sheetmetal. I hope I can get some help hanging these (I really don't want to screw this up!). I'll be hanging them after I get the trunk and wheel housings in and patched. I finished all the small patches on the rear tail pan. Came out ok considering no one will see the patches unless they look upside down into the trunk- and if they have a comment after the splatter paint is applied -> :moonu:

Re: Got It!!!! - Project Skull and Crossbones

    Ok Nailers New Update:

Just picked up a 10 bolt 3.55 Posi. Dare I say it came out of a chebby. So I will be cracking the cover open and putting in the C-Clip eliminators, new gear oil and Posi additive. I need to wire wheel it down (wasn't rusted much at all) and POR-15 and Chassis black coat it. I am going to get a S/S brake line kit and install them. A T/A cover. Redo brake cylinders, shoes and hardware/spring kit. I got all new bushings from the guys at NAPA (thanks for the discount boys) for the upper and lower control arms. I had the control arms sand blasted and I boxed them myself. POR-15 and Chassis black covers them as well. I'll do the driveshaft stuff when I install the motor/tranny I don't know if it has to be cut or lengthened yet but I will replace the U-joint balance and paint. Lastly I need to get a sway bar (if you want to sell one let me know). I wire wheeled the frame to infront of the rear and POR-15 and chassis blacked that as well. Next on the adgenda is to weld in the trunk pans, gas tank supports, and inner wheel well patches. Then weld in the 1/4 patches. My hands are looking like a guy who works for a living again. Loving it so far, but I am getting a little scared with the big body work projects coming up, my . I will have to ask for some help getting these panels in correctly. With the right help I am sure they will turn out fine. I will post some pics of the rear after I install it. Any body-guys on Long Island that want to make a new "bestest" friend are welcome to come and help! . . . Pics to follow

Did you read the article in Hot Rod early this summer? They painted a Ford Falcon for less than $100. Did it with heavily thinned enamel from a can (they used a rustoleum white,) a roller and foam brushes, then did some color sanding and rubbed it out. It actually looked pretty good, really good for a driver.

If you're interested, I'll try to find out which issue. I don't subscribe, but I bought this one at a news stand and it's around here somewhere.

Doc- I did get it thank you. :beers2:

Ed and Wil- I saw the article when it came out, White Rustoleum on a Corvair. Lots of wet sanding!!:Dou: . My hope is to get the sheet metal straight enough that a good body/paint guy can pull minimal Bondo and make this a top quality driver/cruise night car. When you look down the car from the tailight to the front bumper I don't want it to look like the ocean with a 10 mph. wind. I want it smooooooth! But, I want to enjoy this car, so a single stage eurethane base coat/clear coat will be just fine. I don't plan to paint it myself. I want to get the sheelmetal fabrication done then hand it over to an expirienced paint/body man. Honestly, once I get the 1/4's situated the doors and fenders have minimal patching. I plan to get a Fiberglass hood and trunk lid, so thankfully most of my welding is on the trunk and floors-which unless I am running you over, you won't see it!:bla: So like I previously said, my biggest project is hanging the 1/4 patches and getting them right.

I should get the C-clip eliminators from JEGS today, but I am going hunting this week so that project is stalled till next week. Once I finish and paint the rear I'll post the pics. :TU:

My biggest project right now is making a makeshift garage for the winter. I plan on grabbing some pallets and putting them on the ground. Lowe's has 7/16 OSB sheething on sale for $6 a sheet. I can spray that with Thompsons water seal, affix them to the pallets and that will be my floor. Then I want to get an enclosed canopy, and that should suffice to keep the car out of the elements for the winter. Thanks for keeping up with me guys, makes the project that much more fun!!! :TU:

Jake, I dont know how you are set up for your yard /house ect. but I checked all around and could not beat [for the money] the local car port company. For 695 they set up ,for me, a double car port that could very easily be made into a building by putting sides and ends. Just the wood and materials were going to cost me more than that to build my own, and then I still had to build it.

LMAO- Ed, different articles (I didn't even look at the one posted by Wil). Try this link

Jake- I'll check it out. Up by my hunting property there are a lot of carports for sale. $895-1500 depending on the size you want (prolly what you are talking about doc). They are metal with aluminum roofs. Very sturdy. I could add the OSB to the back and sides, use canvass on the front and have a garage. I guess that would cost me about $1500 when it is all said and done. I was looking at the canvass type. Costco used to sell one (I have it for my Riv) that is excellent and strong, but they haven't had them since.

what i was talking about is a portable one. it has basically a tarp top and sides with a zipperd door all on a metal tube frame. what i did was cement the base poles into a flower pot, and then added spme lite support bracing to tie the tube rafters together, so far it's been ok for 3 winters now, and it's had various items in it. motor, trans, 3 wheeler, motorcycle, lawn tractors, and now my buick is staying in there this winter.

    Anthony,

WOW! Half as expensive as the paint job on the Falcon and it looks better. Same paint, same technique. I think the guy with the Corvair must have taken more time and pride in his work.

Steve I was looking at the same model from a different dealer. I think I am going to go with it. I will be searching for the pallets this weekend. I need to finish the rear before I do anything so I can move the car:Dou:
