I have been telling you guys I had a line on a 1966 Skylark. Well this weekend I went to the yard and struck a deal with the guy for $600.00. :TU: Pretty good deal, he made some bucks and I got a car I want. It is rough but I plan to make a real resto-mod project out if, my deadline is 2 + years (thanks George for the inspiration, Black Widow...I'm calling mine Mean Green Machine-It will be a dark metallic green with Black accents (I am not sure if I am going to black out the grill and tail pan, gotta do some photo-shoping first.) It will sport a well worked but streetable 401 (most likely be punched .30 over) Forged pistons, Gessler heads, Ported matched manifold, Toms Roller rockers, Holley 850, and I am thinking of a NOS Sniper system (100-200 shot of juice). 12 Bolt out back with 3.55 or 3.73 Gears. SP 400 (which I picked up yesterday as well). Suspension mods and 4 wheel discs.
Soooooooo- I will be needing stuff mainly the Oil pan & pickup, motor mounts (tom we might fab those like you already did) Tranny mount. Doc, send me that list again so I can print it. I know it will need rear 1/4 patches (of course they are rusted around the wheel wells) and I'd like to get my hands on a GS hood. - Man I gotta get a second job!!!
What I have that is going - Perfect fender skirts!, running 340 & SP 350. Bench front seat, stock rear-I think 8.2 one leg I haven't checked.
My stupidity was forgetting my digital camera at home so I will get some pics up in 2 or so weeks when I go back up to transport down to my house. I am really excited- I just want to thank my very understanding and loving wife.:TU:

That should be a '67. 6th digit in the VIN is the year.

First clue was the fender skirts. Never seen them on a '66, only '67s.

    Smokin deal for $600!

My wife and I shot up to our place upstate, rented a 10' Uhaul, a car trailer and came down today with the Lark (now to be known as Mean Green Machine). Here are some pics - :TU:

And a straight front bumper, too. I'll bet that's worth the 600 right there:)

I also found out why it's so hard to find a straight front bumper for a Buick(or any other car of that vintage with a pointed bumper). The old 'Boom wreckers" with the sling on the front would put too much pressure on the front part of the bumper where it had the least support(you structural engineers will know what I'm talking about) hence alot of bent bumpers. Not to mention that the 'point' of the bumper was the first thing to be hit ie: parking maneuvers. Whoops...went off on a tangent there. Seriously, great deal on a nice car!

Yes,Dark Metallic Green. Blacked-out grill, headlight bezels and rear tail light pan. No on the 4 speed. A Switch Pitch Turbo 400. I have been eyeing a ford (I know, I know:Dou: ) 9" rear set up for an A-body. They are so common and easy to get parts for. 401 with a single 850 Holley and nitrous:3gears:. Adjustable upper and lowers for the rear and tubular control arms in the front. 4 wheel disc. But before all the goodies go on, I'll be practicing my welding and metal fabrication skills. Lots o' patches to be fabbed on this car. Thank God they make the floors, trunk floor and 1/4 extensions. I just hope I can handle this, a few good buddies will be looking over my shoulder, helping me along the way. I just cant wait to get the air cutter out and go to town  :beers2: :TU:

You can usually tell if a 70 lark was ever towed from the front back in the day because it will have a bent front bumper and a cracked grille

being a 67 wouldnt you want to run a 400 rather than a 401 since the 67 had the 400 from the factory and the 66 had the 401, 400,430,455 be cheaper to put in too no special parts like you need with a 401 and easier to find parts for

also to gs clone it you need a 67 gs hood and a gs/special grill

on a tranny why not run a od tranny?

your car is going to pretty much be a green 67 version of my 66

best tubular arms for the money http://www.scandc.com/ there uppers and tall ball joint work wonders

Holy Schnykies- Tom Telesco came down to the Isle today to help me get the carbs on the Rivi running right (which he did by re jetting, different thread) and we decided to play around with the Mean Green Machine when we were finished working on the Riv. We hoohed up a new gas line from the washer bottle(our makeshift gas tank) to the pump so we weren't throwing 20 year old gas into the carb, did a little under dash wiring, slapped a new battery in and . . . . . . WHAMMO

Not only did the freaking thing start it ran like a top. No ticks- nothing. The valve covers were leaking when it was running years ago and had some oily crud buildup on them and the exhaust manifolds so we had some smoke from the burn off (I'll clean that off with the power washer and some engine brite). But OMG she ran beautiful. It is a 300 2BBL if anyone is interested PM me 'cause I will be selling it. I am going to leave it in if anyone wants to hear her purrrrr, I'll be gald to start her right up for ya!:TU: :TU:

Thanks Tom for all the help, it was a great day spent with a good friend.:beers2:

Looks Like project Mean Green might be taking a twist. The wife and I went to the Goodguys NE show this weekend with the Riv (which ran awsome). While there we saw many Ratrods and my wife kept saying "let's do that with the Skylark" . I was hesitant at first to even make a comment, but as a professional people observer I could not help but notice how people are drawn to these cars. The shiny hot cars get oohhs and ahhhhs but the Ratrods get "man, that's cool-it's real". Being the simple kid of guy that I am, I gave this a lot of thought and decided to go that route. My plan is to still complete the sheetmetal on the car and replce the floors and trunk (don't need to take a rock to the kisser through the Fred Flintstone floors) but I am going to do the car in black matte finish with some hand painted flames.- The drive train won't change it will still be the Nailhead with SP-400 and a posi rear. Front disc rear drums and just make the car safe for the road. This should be fun!:TU:

Oh yea new name is - Project Skulls and Crossbones
