Someone needs to send him a copy of photos of GS ram air hood scoops. I wonder if the 69's may look better than the 70-2's, style-wise.
I think it would go OK with a V8 too. If they brought back the GS400, I don't think a single person on this board would object. Naturally a 455 would be preferrrable, but I would find a 400" properly badged and packaged motor acceptable. Yeah, it's a shivvy motor, but if it has Buick valve covers, sits between Buick fenders, has a couple of Buick-specific performance tweaks, and looks great going like hell, I'd deal with it. Needs a hood tach. - Freed
Personally.....and Im Very firm on this...... GSX and GNX should be retired from names under consideration. GS, GN, T-Type.....WildCat:Brow: Fine Pontiac is reportedly going to "Jazz Up" the new GTO and revive "The Judge" name .....I think the legends, like Babe Ruths' #, Should be retired
I'm sold. ...and how about a Stage 2 version that's more set up for drag racing (like the original package). Oh yeah, put some scoops on that hood!!!!
BINGO! The idea of the performance car that is made to look like a business sedan bugs me. There are no hoodscoops, brake cooling vents, racing stripes, fender logos loudly proclaiming engine size, nothing. It bugs heck out of me whan someone says, "Oooo, the musclecar is BACK!" and then they show me this timid grocery getter. Musclecars were about a lack of restraint, not how much restraint you could build into the car. That car looks good for a new car, but it's got about as much attitude as my '92 Taurus.
I like the first car in this thread... make mine in silver, with rear wheel drive, and a turbo 3.8L. I think it's unrealistic to expect a car these days not to be somewhat of a "jellybean". Advances in aerodynamics over the last 30 years dictate to some extent what the general shape of a car will be. Do you really want another "flying brick"? It is a different time, with different tastes and styles. Even so, a few styling cues, tastefully done, from some of the GS or GN models would be appropriate. I think Buick would be amazed how many they would sell if they built something like this.
Go back to the original silver colored car--I tell u what--may look kind of like the GTO but this Buick seems to have the flares on the wheelwells and a more aggressive looking front end---actually looks attractive and cool to me compared the the GTO which is VERY BLAH!---shows what subtle tweaks can do for the overall look. Also--the silver really enhances the lines while the dark colors hide too much. Just a better looking overall package. Patton
I see it another way. My favorite muscle cars are the ones that are the least noticeable. I love the dog dish hubcaps and lack of spoilers, hood tach, etc... Doesn't someone have a sleeper of a 2door post GS Stage 1 heere, possibly "granny green?" Just the scoops and the emblems to give it away. I like my 500 hp muscle car looking like its 6 cylinder variant. I do like this concept of a new performance Buick. I do wish it had some sort of scoop on the hood though. I don't need a wing and a spoiler, or other "look here" gadgetry attached to it. I do prefer it has something to give it some sort of brand identity, possibly some sort of porthole, etc...
I'm a big dog-dish, no-spoiler fan too. But even with that combo, these cars look downright mean. The pointed noses, sharp lines, and over all good body design make even a cream colored skylark post with hub caps look agressive. There is something about a fancy Grand Am that just doesn't slice my cake. Our cars looked like they were doing 100 mph sitting in the driveway. That car looks like it was cooked at 350* for half an hour in my oven and melted into a bubble. If it had some kind of sharp (read: not bass mouth) grill, or some touch that set it apart from every other family sedan out there, I think it would be a ringer. The platform is certainly something to work off of. But it still needs some attitude. My $.02
Yeah, I REALLY like that! But at the same time, when we look at that car and see its aggressiveness (wrapped it its subtlety), we're looking through different eyes than the majority of the car-buying public. To most people that "old green car" wouldn't be described as you've described it. It would more likely be described as "big old car" than "aggressive" or "doing 100 mph sitting in the driveway." That's something that most wouldn't appreciate. At the same time, a car like in the photos here, needs to be aimed at those people most likely to buy it. As many of there are of us who want a return of a muscle car era, there are a lot more twenty-somethings looking for a performance car with today's styling instead of a retro version of a "big old car". I still am of the opinion that if Buick had a GS version of the GTO, and that it met what I wanted out of it, that I'd get one. Now of course this is all opinion and some of the longest threads on this board are opinion topics. ...good thing we've all got one! :TU:
If they used the 350, I believe the air intake is set up about here, something like on the WS6 Trans Ams. Your scoops, sir. :Brow:
Sure it's not a mustang chris. I know you have a fetish for fords. Your not trying to convert us are you.
