Bonjour , I recently saw on the GM inside news web site a prototype of a Grand National , I wonder if it will came to life with a 3.8 turbo and when it's gonna be on sale , I really like the design of that proto . It's probably the Buick version of the brand new GTO .

But there is no other details avaiable yet ,is it going to to be a RWD ?? 3.8 turbo ?? price range ?? Take a look at this beauty

I would just love to say something good about this car. I think it's great that Buick may be bringing back a legend. I just think it looks too much like a jellybean car. Like the new GTO, it doesn't resemble a true GN at all.

After what GM has been doing laately, I guess we'll just have to take what we can get.

That jellybean thing reminds me of something I heard recently which is true in this case... New cars are shaped like shoes, and the SUV's are boots.

I think the problem with the GTO is also found in this car. There is nothing agressive about the way that it looks. They need some sharp edges, maybe a sharp grill instead of a big bass mouth. Otherwise this car would fit in next to every other mid-size sedan offered today. Give the shark some teeth...

Obviously a little to mean for the streets, but something like this. Hide-a-ways would be ultra cool. :Brow:

    now thats cool.
but maybe bring the crease out along the mid section of the wheels. Like the 70-72 GS give it some defnation.

Nate I think I agree with you on this one. I kinda like the original jelly bean car just my oppinion. However a subtle body line inhancement would defenitly bring a diffrent appearance to the car giving it a more agreesive feel. Very similar to the 70-72 how the body line rolls off the top of the wheel wells. I think the one thing that I do not like is no definition to the side of the car they are just flat/smooth just like a mid ninties honda civic , BMW (94/95 model 325i), all going to same design. This is why most enjoy or buicks because we want to be diffrent.

I thought Grand National's could be any color you wanted....as long as you wanted BLACK!! Let's see it all black with lightly tinted windows. Grrrrrrrrrr!!

I think, as the Buick Performance Group we should draft a joint letter.....if this group is truely "inside' GM

.....and tell them what WE think. Afterall, it'll probably be US leading the charge to the dealership to buy them....followed by the more general public once they see them on the road and get their doors sucked off by us

IMHO, its got to have a few things that set it apart from the "pack" especially if they plan on using the GS or GN moniker

    1) Styling that sets it apart: - It has to differentiate itself from any "cousin" in the GM lineup in body style, color scheme, and stance. It MUST NOT look like a rebadged, re-light designed version of the GTO. I Like Smitty's rendition alot with the high rounded hip lines ALOT. If its gonna be a GN, it HAS TO BE BLACK with minimal (if any at all) chrome

    2) Performance - Its got to have plenty....but well thought out. It should run low 13's out the door with plenty left on tap with either dealer or aftermarket performance HopUps available, meaning, it has to be factory OVERBUILT for what's to come. Personally, I'd like to see the 3800 V6 used as ITS THE ONLY TRUE BUICK Powerplant available.....Blown either way (but preferably Turbo'd). It should have an A/C Charged Intercooler. It MUST HAVE a Stout Transmission and I'd like to see a 5 speed Auto with steering wheel paddle shifters.

    3) PRICE - It has to priced under 35K - once you reach this price point, GM's quality control (or lack thereof) cant compete with either the European or Jap High class/performance cars

I'm sorry to say it, but to me it's nothing more than a cruel pipe dream...but if Buick did build it it would be Shivvie power'd (oh excuse me..."corporate power'd" ) anyway just like the new GTO is.:boring: The days of a true Buick power'd muscle car are gone, just as they obviously are for Pontiac!:Dou: The Supercharged 3800 is Ok but lacks the "mustard" compared to the BBB or the turbo'd 3.8L.:spank: Face it...Shivvie power rules the roost at GM:boring: Buick's spending their time concentrating on the Rainier with it's 5.3L (327ci) Shivvie 'plant. :error:

Sorry for the rant but GM (AKA Shivvie) just plain SUCKS!:blast: :moonu:
