I used to work for Data General, and they had a huge plant in Apex, N.C. I have been to Fuquay-Varina before as well......I never saw any Buicks... ou: PS - The Data General plant is now EMC.
Here's some more memories. This is a shot of the car at the Dallas Autorama in I think, Feb., 1978. Wire wheels and all. I think I've got some more pics, but I'm still trying to find them. I remember Jimmy Austin too. He worked at I think Ken's Auto parts here in Dallas. Did a bunch of the work on the car in the back of the store. I had just bought my first "X" and knew very little about them. He's the one that gave me all the part numbers to buy new decals and such for my car. One thing I remember very well is that the car was NOT Saturn Yellow. It was much lighter. Can't really tell that from my old pic though.
Hi Guys, My name is Jimmy Austin and I'm the original builder of the "Electric Banana" featured in the April 1978 issue of popular Hot Rodding. I was doing a little google searching and came up with this post from several years ago. Does anyone know where the car is today? I do have lots of pictures during the original build. I did lighten the Saturn Yellow by mixing pearl white with it. I got the car in 75/76 as a 100,000 mile plus belching smoke daily driver from the previous owner. I originally rebuilt the engine and put in the 4:78 gears to do a little drag racing. Shortly thereafter I decided to blow the car completely apart and build a killer show car.
Hi Jimmy, I was going thru some old trheads and stubled across this. Seems the thread that won't die! I have the car now. I shot you a PM with my contact information.
I like the yellow firewall . I remember when kleiner painted the bottom body color , like a Dodge . DL
