You did bring it back to its turntable days. For those of you who may not remember this car was featured looking like you see chrome and all in a Spring (April?) 1978 issue of Popular Hotrodding mag. Nice job on the rechrome Jerry. You must be killing them with that car in Cal.
Jerry....what happened to your X since the 1978 magazine. Must be another good story! I still have the magazine l..... Bruce
Congrats Jim!! So I bet you have a pretty cool lookin stable with 2 X converts and an X hardtop :Brow: :TU:
That chromed GSX used to belong to our local Buick member, Mark Smith, of New Port Richey, FL. You are correct, previous to Mark buying the car, the owner had a chrome shop and would chrome parts along with customers' parts. Mark sold that car back in 1994-5 to a Buick nut in Orlando, FL for $12,500. From there, we never found out what happened to it. Mark used to win every car show that he entered! Mark still has 3 or 4 GS cars, all 1970 versions. One is a Stage1 and the others are 350 cars. I think one is a GS455 or Stg1 conv.
The guy who owned it in Dallas is listed in the 1978 article referenced above. I remember it as Jimmy Ray but I could be wrong. While we owned it, we removed the 4.78 8.2" rear gear which was a bit much.
Article says the guys name in dallas was Jimmy Austin. 4.78 ouch how'd he drive that thing on the street, lucky that little 8.2 didn't explode. I didn;t know they made any gears for an 8.2, who's gears were they. I wound up taking the 8.2 out becasue i was afraid the motor jw was building would hurt it. i found a 12 bolt, put 4.10's, moser's for some subtle street power, and had that chomed for my reincarnation. actually put the motor, trans, and rear aside because i didn't want to hurt any of it. My wife is still confused why I bought a car only to take it apart....guess i'll never be able to explain. The killer is that everything i change has to be chromed!! needless to say my chrome guy loves me. I went a little further on the chrome than the original, wanted to put my own little style spin into the project. it's been a fun project
