Thanks, Gary. I figured as much but when you haven't done this for a while you tend to forget........it's gonna be fun putting that engine in the ole original red car that I've had for 26 years now! Lugging the car to my old shop in Pa next week.....
John, since the heads are off don't forget to plug the oiling hole in the block, sometimes oil will seep past the gasket. gary
OK, will do. Can't remember if that oil hole is on both sides. I know it is on the left side front for sure....
John-I can't wait to see the old red car running with my old heads. Have a safe trip.I ran the 69 rocker arms on them years ago,but they went on another engine years ago. They should be fine.Let us know how well it runs. Mike Nussell
What size plug do I need to procure ahead of time for the block? I'd measure it but the block is already in Pa waiting for me....rest of the stuff is here. Mike, I found an old picture of you from 1981 posing in front of the green 72 Stage 1 that had those heads on it at the time! I forgot how young you are. :error:
John The hole is 11/32",I've used plugs and also tapped them and installed a threaded plug.If using standard plug put a drop of loc tite on it. Come on,Lets see that pic of Mike!!! gary
John and Gary-I DON'T think the public needs to see the picture! John,I forgot to give you a 1979 Popular Hot Rodding Engine Annual I have.Roger Hunninton writesIn a word,Buick engineer did it right and Pontiac did it wrong. Buick followed the prime principle in designing round ports-no sharp turns." This is comparing the iron stage2 to the Pomtiac Ram Air IV heads. All on page 87. This magazine article was to go with my old heads, just forgot it.John,I also have picture of you from 1981.I will see you get the magazine. John also emeber in the mid 80's Paul Zazarine took picture of your heads with alot of other Buick parts, when he did an article for Dobbs Publishing. Mike Nussell
Guess we're even, Mike. I won't post your picture and you won't post mine. "Mutually assured destruction" LOL. Gary, thanks for the info!
Gary-How do you know we want to see yours?? You can see my old heads, when John gets the red car going,so I quess you will get to see mine and John's and we have both seen yours in Thumper and GranScat. We are all even ,okay? Mike
pics Mike, you always crack me up. OK no one shows pics. I have one from 1986 with me and the alcohol gang I'll post, remember them? gary
Here is a pic of some Factory Experimental Tunnel Port Stage 2 pieces that Santa left at my doorstep last night. For those that are interested I posted some detail shots over on the BPG site. Duane
George, After Dennis Manner, of Buick Engineering, finished working on the Stage 2 heads, he started working on the "next" level of performance pieces. That is when he developed the 4-bolt main blocks and also 2 sets of true Stage 2 Tunnel Port heads. According to Dennis he thinks 1 set was destroyed in testing, while this is the other set. These exact pieces were part of a "complete" engine package that was sent out with our 4-bolt main block, so after 36 years everything is back together again. With Dennis Manner's and others help, I will be doing a series of articles on this for the BPG Newsletter. (The timeline is almost completed.) Duane
those things are a peice of art,too bad the ta aluminum heads dont have ports like that, also TA`s exhaust ports are D shaped rather than the O shaped original ones. Thanks
Duane, Sorry we haven't been able to talk lately, but congratulations on securing the missing parts. Don't really know how you pulled it off but ya'll are doing a excellent job pulling this all together. VERY nice work! :TU: I'd wish you a Merry Christmas but I really cannot fathom how it could get any better! Merry Christmas just the same, awesome news! :TU: :TU:
