My bride and I were at the grocery store this AM when I spotted a display of "organic" and "environmentally friendly" products. What caught my eye was "recycled" aluminum foil. Aluminum is one of the easiest metals to recycle. Refining aluminum from Bauxite ore is a lengthly and complex procedure, but to recycle it you essentially dump in the scrap at the last stage of the process. To produce recycled aluminum should be much less expensive then to produce it new. The recycled aluminum foil was "on sale" for "only $4.99 for 30 square feet of the stuff or .17 per square foot. The cheapest "new" aluminum foil they had was 3 - 80 sq. ft. rolls for $10, or .04 per foot. The recycled "environmentally friendly" aluminum foil was more then four times as expensive as the new stuff. That is not right! They are using "environmentally sound" or "sustainable" labels to screw us. Grrr.

The "green" labels are all just marketing ploys. All those housewives paying a little more to "save the planet".

it's an artifact of .gov subsidies for the recycling "business".

recyclers have no need to keep costs down or to offer competitive rates when purchasing scrap aluminum because if they "can't" do it competitively, they just go begging to .gov for more funding.

Aluminum is so expensive to make compared to just recycling it, I believe the question is begged: Does anyone actually "make" aluminum anymore?

I can't believe nobody is "marketing" recycled water to the green wackos. I always tell my kids the water they drink today was perhaps once dinosaur urine.

That "poorly informed prey" get no sympathy from me. Poorly informed people is how we end up with ridiculous environmental laws.

Care less about what? Proud of what? Proud of being smart enough not to fall for the ploy? Smart enough to recycle everything I have? Or proud to say I have never disposed of a single toxic substance in an improper way? What is your point???

That's exactly what Obama and his puppet masters want. It was meant to be funny (which it was) but it's also a scary reality that could very possibly become true.

I completely disagree with this statement. We have environmental laws because industry needed to be stopped from polluting the air and water to a point where it wasnt safe to drink, or breath. The laws were put into effect because our natural resources were being used up quickly.

Recycling is a side benefit of these laws currently in place, where by a waste from one industry can be made into a product to be used for other industry.
It was just a natural progression in the laws established by the EPA.

Keep in mind, we the consumer controls industry today. If you dont like the product, dont buy it. The manufacturer will get the message soon. Todays society is promoting the "green movement", and manufacturers are jumping on this bandwagon hard and heavy. I cant blame them. Its called capitalism. This is a relatively new industry, and given time, all these higher cost "green" products will soon become more mainstream and competiton between manufacturers will soon bring prices back down to an acceptable level

Aluminum and paper products are two of this countries biggest recylable consumer material. To recycle both of these, requires a huge investment on industry, plus requires as much energy to manufacture as the raw product. But the facts are, we are running out of the raw products that we the consumer use on a daily basis, and recycling will have to become a fact of life for all of us.
