Yes, they look stupid. People aren't pointing at them because they look cool. They are pointing at them because they look stupid. Period. Badonkadonk stupid.

I think the biggest I would go is 22" on big cars and 20" on A body..Always without having to lift, lower or mod..I like my car to be able to swap from the custom wheel and back to the rallies and white letter tires..qdub24 your Car looks really nice and tasteful imo..Cars are how most young men express themselves..You want to make another big thread ask about Rap music, country, Rock...Everyone's has their own taste..I personally like all different kinds of music, as I like all different kinds of cars...Some of those cars look nice and some are a bit much..To each their own, as has been stated its yours so do what you like:beer

    Flame suit on fellas.

I literally looked at over a hundred types of five spoke "old school torque thrusts-types". I wanted them to reflect and old school muscle car vibe, but with a modern twist. I didn't want rivets all around. I didn't want all the "steps" we see in our ralleys and such, and I wanted a deep dish.

I went with a staggered look because I think the 20's on the front would just be "too much" and detract from the look of the car itself (gestalt, if you will). I wanted a bit of side wall and have 4.33 in. on rear and 4.43 on front, so they look identical.

NOw, for the wheel moldings... They will make it "pop" even more...

Now that you brought it up. Car looks great, color combo looks cool. Wheels, nothing wrong with them. The have an old school/new school vibe. Look good. Rear wheel size and tire diameter fits nice. My estimate since I didn't see a size is about 28.6" which is right there for a stock diameter tire which fits the wheelwell nicely.

IMO unfortunately the front tire/wheel size doesn't cut it. I'm thinking it is around 26.6" which is wayyyy small for that car. You went for the same size sidewall but the big and little effect of the chrome wheel diameter sticks out like a sore thumb. They're 2" in diameter too small for the car's wheelwell and it swallows them up. Then on top of it they give the car a look like it has air shocks jacking up the rear. I know you wanted a rake but that's a bit much. I think a slightly narrower 20" wheel on the front with a narrower but close to the same diameter tire as the rear would have looked perfect. Maybe even the same size as the rear but I don't know if the steering would clear.

    Opinions vary though.

Ok, now that looks really good. I know I said I didn't like big wheels earlier but this car looks just fine. I suppose I really don't like the wheels that are waaaaaay too big for a car.

I see your point, but simply didn't Want "dubs" all away around. I would have taken crap for that as well.lol I was told two tone would be horrible by dozens of locals-including the painter, much less black and gold. And I think those results speak for themselves as well. This was all planned as any design I would do as a graphic artist/illustrator.
Of course they all changed their tune when they finally saw my finished vision :) I expected the end results with the car as I did many illustrations to see the potential end results.
The rake is exactly what I expected. As a graphic artist , I realized with the larger area of black in the rear and the relatively small amount up front, would proportionally be just what I was after. Since installing them last week, I literally could not tell you the amount of positive comments I've received- from the homies on Bourbon and my drives through the lower "9", to the fellas in my two local clubs.

I was particular happy to have my good friend a regional judge who owns several senior award winning Buicks, tell me I "nailed it".

I'm not trying to defend my decision. I don't think I have to. I'm jut trying to explain a lot of forethought and rules of design went into it.At the end of the day , that's what we are all after. I am asked to consult quite often on specific builds-from subtle mods that only an expert would notice, to wild schemes that I am brought in to "wrangle" and "clean up" (read eliminate unnecessary designs/color combos and such- picture bad paint jobs of the '70s and early '80s-blech) ;) That's probably my only "Talent" when it comes to classics as my mechanical skills are very lacking.

It will also not be so "bad" appearing to some once it's dropped in the weeds.;) I also am about to place the wheel moldings on. That will make it "pop" even more.:bglasses:

    I guess I am going for a "hot wheels/matchbox"- look, just a real-life 1:1 version ;)

The fronts are 18x8 245/45, rear 20x8.5 (really no reason to go 10s as it simply didn't look like I wanted it to) 274/40.
This equals to just under 2 in. smaller diameter than stock ( a bit of pro-touring look) at 26.6in., 9.65 width and a sidewall of 4.34 for the front. The rear meats are 28.66 , nearly 11in. width, and a side wall height of 4.33. Wheels are Ridler 695s. They have another version of these where there is a "crease" through one end of the spoke to the other-giving it a pyramid shape. Not my vision-too sharp.

PS. If you look closely at a Riv , you will notice the rear arch is larger and higher than the front- like three inches higher/larger, so it is still proportional. A taller tire would be cut off at the top behind the wheel well. Right now the rubber on both tires have about two inches of clearance when looking from the side. As for an "jacked up look", it's only one inch lower in the front. I gotz my reasons for everything I do. ;) And remember the airbads, once down, will take that complaint away-somewhat... LOL

I'm a two-tone kind of guy so it looks great there and these shots give a much better look to to the wheel fit. Like you said they'll tuck in better when the car is lowered.

If teh tire curve is bigger than teh wheel well curve its too big. Also I like some rubber, not all rim. I think 17 is ok, 18 is pushing it. Depends on the car, and the car height.

    My Skylark has 15's.

yes , nice . i really like the way the 2 tone belt line drops a little after the door and loops up n over the tire - that in combination with tire size makes the car look thinner and in turn lighter .
and the angle of photography makes the wheels look alot dif also . angle shot - fine , side shot maybe a hair bigger front , hair smaller rear . but it's all real close - not bad at all .

I saw a 72 Skylark Bronze in color,a few years back sitting in a gas station close to the road.maybe it was the color, maybe it was the bright white lights or the Spoked 22" rims but that car will be in my head forever. It just looked pretty.
