I had heard about the Thunderturkey show, so I watched clip of it on the Discovey Channel website. The guy with the gray hair was out in the yard pulling weathered trim parts out of the trunk of another T-Bird, and bossing this younger guy around about finding similar dull, weathered chrome pieces.
After the the guy walked off, the younger guy said, "He never comes out in the yard. This must be something special."
No, he is just now on TV.

I ended up only seeing the last 5 minutes of last night's show when they were auctioning off the 442. "Only 20% came with a vinyl top!" Whoo hoo!
    Was it a real 442?

Some family members had the '66 Mustang ragtop that their late dad had purchased new restored professionally. The car came back perfect in every respect. It was gone for the better part of four years. It was done by a shop that has a great reputation and works on several cars at a time. Ya get what ya pay for.

Right in my backyard my uncle and I worked for Ron and I went to highschool with Jason. They have a ton of Buick stuff I love going there.Ron has a ton of nice cars and a cool house with a bowling alley!

I've seen both the Thunderbird and the 442 episodes and I have to say that I sure wouldn't want either of the two in my driveway. Two weeks spent on the 'bird and three on the 442 shows how they are just slapping these cars together to get them to the auction. Did anyone else notice the panel gaps on the right side of the 442? The space between the door and the front fender looked to be about an inch wide!

I agree that if they were to show what it takes to turn out a really quality restoration it would be much more interesting. I think that Overhaulin is still the best of this bunch, even though most of those cars are not to my taste. They just do a better quality job. I personally could not stand to watch Barry White turn out his "Super Muscle Machines". Too much ego, too much repetition, not much imagination or taste. I loved it when he had to eat a couple of his creations at auction. The builds on "Musclecars" and "Trucks" are even better than Barry.

I will give the "Car Kings" credit in being able to gather the parts fairly quickly and without the drama of "Wrecks to Riches", and to throw them together fairly well. They just come across as a bunch of goobers, not very polished with their dialog. The most impressive thing about them is the stockpile of cars that they have. I'd love to go picking in their yard. But like someone else suggested, I'll bet the prices have gone up since the start of their new show.

I think you are talking about the one I said. I think his name was Barry White, and as the next guy under you posted I think it was (edit, after reading the other posts  ) Wreaks to Riches. That was a good show, he built some sweet rides.

I had DVRed both shows. They say they make there living selling "classic's at auction", you look at what there selling and it's all new stuff with only one classic in the middle.

It looks like they have a bunch of old cars, but it looks like they just part them out. I bet they just started redoing them so they would have a "TV Show".

Lark Custom 70, you say you are right there, have they allways fixed up classic's and sold them or is this something new for TV ???

I really thought the Father (Ron) was going to keep the White 442 for himself. One thing I know is the son needs to learn how to shift a car :eek2: .

It makes me wish that public television would make a car show.

Think about the difference between Extreme Makeover Home Edition (network TV) and This Old House (public TV). Extreme Makeover has a terrible, obnoxious, incompetent host, random deadlines and scripted drama, and verry questionable craftsmanship. Most of the time they just knock the house down and rebuild it with a bunch of 'personalized' touches to match up to what some 8 year old happens to be into at the time.

This Old House has a team of guys who know what they're doing, take as long as they damn well want, show you how to do it right, show you behind the scenes on manufacturing and restoration, and really respect the history behind the houses they are restoring.

What we need is a "This Old Car" on PBS.

One episode of that Wreck to Riches show pissed me off when they bought a very nicely restored, or perhaps it was an original '55 Chevy from an elderly guy and they proceeded to make a street machine out of it.
    :af:
Cut up a derelict car, not a nice example.

Yes and no they always have project cars you could buy by the office in the yard. On a sidenote they do quality restorations that are amazing not the stuff they are doing on the tv show. I helped do some Chrysler 55 C300's 60 300F that were amazing every nut bolt came off they looked like they just rolled off the showroom he had most of the 300 models from 55-60 big cross ram intakes early hemi power cool cars. Also Ron had some amazing Chevelles in his collection back then.
They also own a yard in Casa Grande to south with early early stuff turn of the century to 50's.

Ah thanks, to bad they are doing a slap and go as a TV Show, I would have enjoyed what you are saying you and they did much better then what they are showing as the TV Show.

    Thanks :TU:

Went to barrett jackson in 08 with stepfather and went to their yard with cars from 1960 and up really cool pics on my facebook! 442 was not that great their friend at the auction was in hemmings muscle car bc they own all mint 442 and tons of memorabilia! They have a great inventory and dominate bc they are so close to all the cars they pick up where as everything where I live in Midwest just rusts out and junked! Place is pretty cool in person but the owner seems like a real piece of work and if you paid attention they were wrong on the show about the year of the 225 the chevelle since a 70 ss is way more desirable then a 69 plus the ad they used for the 70 was actually a 69!

Watched last night's episode with the '62 Galaxie.
Man, is it ever painful to watch these guys make fools of themselves on national television.
If anyone else saw it last night, did you catch in the beginning when they were describing the history of the Galaxie model? They showed several pictures of '64-'65-ish Chevy Malibus?
I'm sure that was Discovery Channel's screw up, but still.

I am also given the impression they have no idea what they have in the yard.

Yeah, last night's show was pretty bad. Even my wife noticed the Malibu switcheroo. I have shopped a few places getting prices on redoing our '68 wagon and the prices we have been quoted have easily been double what these boys are selling cars for.
I suppose I would call these guys the desert kings of the "aerosol overhaul". I too would like to see a show like ''this old car" get developed, I think a lot of people would watch.
