So DVAP has their own show about restoring and auctioning cars... Anyone seen or heard about the show yet? I'm just finishing up the episode about the 70 442. Just another scripted show with unrealistic deadlines and big egos it seems...
Just watched the show myself. To be honest, the snakes stole the show! I still wouldn't mind walking around looking for some Buick parts....
I saw the one with the Tbird. I didnt really care for the show. Did anybody notice anything familiar about the DVAP logo?
Watching the 442 episode now,and yeah, scripted, cranky old guy who can't pronounce his own cars' name, doesn't know how many forward gears a dual gate shifter operates, some put on snake scare,a last minute build, and an auction. Oh yeah, and a put on drag race...just give me a tour of the yard and I'm cool...Fish
I haven't seen it yet, I DVRed it but haven't watched it yet. I liked the old one that (if I remember right) Barry White had, he made some sweet rides. Of course you can't leave out Chip Fosse, he works majaic on a lot of cars.
Finished watching it, The script is really corny, Do Like the cars, but the way they do the restorations appear to be very, IDK, like they just coat it with some paint and hope to sell it at a regular junkyard Auction for big bucks uzzled: I'm 20, 21 in a couple of days :bglasses: , And I couldn't believe these guys didn't know much about the cars they were restoring or actually own, even pronouncing it, Even I knew who DR. Olds was haha, not to mention how to manually shift that Hurst Gate Shifter:moonu: I wouldn't mind walking around there to grab some part for my skylark but I bet you guys that since they now have a "show" they will charge even more because people must be contacting them more now than ever And I personally do agree, Overhaulin at least appear to know their stuff, Along with Muscle Car, now that they gave us a project Buick and 455
There was a pretty cool show where one of the smaller "big name" car builders bought a POS and fixed it up, usually modifying them, and then sold them at auction. The only car I can remember off the top of my head that they did was a 67/8 Mercury Cougar that they made look like a vintage road race car. Pretty cool stuff. Anyone have an idea what show that could be?
Oh yeah...same sh!t different show. I thougt it was funny last night how they highlighted the fact that the interior guys couldn't get the console to fit right. "We drilled the hole for the bracket, and now we can't find it through the carpet....ohhhh noooooO!!!!!!" 5 minutes of showing the same shot of the guy using a screw gun to magically drill through the metal. (I suppose it would work like that if the screw was self-tapping)
I saw the Blunderbird show too. And yes, I did notice their logo. The logo and the junkyard were about all that I liked about the show. That 'bird was exactly the kind of car that I hate to see sold as a "restoration." It was nothing more then a glorified used car prep.
BUt they got the right price for the T bird. I think the 442 was sold over price but I did not see what they started with. I'll have to catch it on rerun. If you owned this place you would sell at a high price too. Any car can be fixed so they have an almost unlimited supply of project cars.
I saw some of the "t-bird" show and the very last 5 minutes of the "forfortytoo" and I can't believe that Discovery is trying this again. It is getting old and tired. And Speed is going to to another build-off show in a few weeks; WHY???
The networks need to go out on a limb and do something different for a change: just have a show where they take a car like the 442 and restore it, but just show it being restored. No hot-rodding, no pro-touring mods, no 3 week silly deadlines, no fake built-up drama, none of that crap. Just a real-life restore of a muscle car or a 50's finned chrome boat (Adam). Like many of you said, the formula is so tired, and I can't agree more. Seriously, who restores a car in 3 weeks and does it well? I watched 5 minutes of the T-Bird episode, 2 minutes of the 442 episode and I was gone. Some of the real craftsmen on V8buick that do the unbelieveable restorations on the GSX and GS and Stage cars really need to have their own show. Now that's real car building. Much respect! Noone would say 'that was dumb' after an episode. Take the entire car build, be it 5 months or a year it doesn't matter, and make it one season (and to spice things up, also show what cars are next on the list). I think most people would be very surprised to see what it takes to restore a car to 100% original down to the correct markings, bolts, numbers, etc. I've been working on a 64 Wildcat for 10 years to make it 100% correct, and I am STILL missing three NOS items that I just can not find. Just a though...
I was watching the show last night but went to bed when they showed the guy painting the car with the spray area open and a huge fan blowing out side air in. may watch it again but never take those morons serious. I loved it when they talked to the 442 collector and he said it took 3 years to restore a 70 W-30. yet they are wanting the same results in 3 weeks, give me a break. BTW: what did the car bring at auction? Tim
