I was wondering how often this happens to you...

In Burlington Ontario there is a weekly cruise night at a mall, and on a good night you can expect to see over 500 cars, and I'll give you the break down, the most common cars: 'Vettes, Chevelles and Rustangs. I often count the buicks, normally there is less than 15, that works out to less than 3% and I'm often the only Riviera, (however there has been more on a RARE occasion).
What I've yet to figure out really is with those numbers, Buicks and Rivs are really rare. Yet notice, although my Riv (71) gets a lot of looks, people fawn over the much more common cars.

Now normally I don't care what other people think but it would be nice to get a little respect from the general population.

Does this often happen to everybody else out there?

Yes! It happens to all of us:bglasses:

Last year, I was lucky to see ONE Buick at the local car cruise. Most of the time, it was MY Buick that was there.

Theres a town near me (Lemont Illinois) that has a large cruise night once a week all through the summer as well. It's not uncommon to also have 500 cars there and it's gone over 1000 cars on occasion. I am usually one of maybe 3 Buicks. I think the most that have been there was maybe 20 and that was a Buick night.
    :(

LOL I forgot to mention that at one cruise last summer I had a guy ask me if my GS was some kind of a Canadian Chevelle. LMAO

Up the street from me is a drive-in called Kellers thats been around since the 60's and there are always muscle cars there
every saturday night but the only Buick Ive ever sighted there
was a lowrider Riv. Hopefully this summer that will change and there will be one Skylark out there making people ask dumb questions about chevelles.

Jason you must be going there on the wrong night:Do No:

Granted it's the Fords, Chevy's and Mopar boys that dominate but that is only in numbers if you know what I mean.

There has been many of nights when there were 8-10 (sometimes more) Buicks there usually after our cruise night up in Plano is over. There is a 71 X there a lot of times that belongs to a guy named Scott, that is a very nice car. Stan brings his 70 Stage 1 conv. out sometimes as well. I have my red 72 there sometimes and the GN sometimes it's to bad I can't take both at the same time and then there is a host of Turbo Buicks!

Believe me when the Buicks roll in everyone is aware of our presence! :jd:

If that's the case in Texas I should move down there, the obly time I've ever created any sort of buzz is when we had a 63, 70 and 71 lined up together side by each. And the only people that ever seem to enjoy a Buick is the older (60+) crowd. I was at one cruise night and a guy was selling his 72 Riv, I was giving it a real good look over, talking to the owner about it, he seemed happy that somebody would show and intrest and then he said to me, "A young guy like you would look really good in this car,"
To which I answered ," I know, I look so good, I own that one over there," And pointed to my 71, I always make a point to talk to the Buick owners at a cruise night, help spread the love you know?

Same here, Adam. They always ask me if the headlites are supposed to point up. When I give a demo, then they ask if it came from the factory that way or if I custom made them.

Then there's the guys who never knew Buicks came with factory dual quads. They look at my motor like it came from outer space or something. They all have a friend who had one that was 465 cubic inches but only had one carb.

Then they look inside and see the speedometer and the rear door handles. Then they ask if I ever got it up to 140. What a trip!

Woah! I had no idea there were that many Buicks lurking about there. We did move here the last month that LSPBC did the chucks thing so maybe we missed the folks showing up afterwards by a few weeks. We try to go up there an snag burgers every time the weathers nice cause even in the winter there is still a show of force from local muscle regardless.

Its great to hear that there are folks going there though cause it was seeming like maybe most of the Buick people round here were further north and not coming down this far south. Plus I hadn't heard any mention of it on the LSPBC mailing list. :Do No:

Anyways, we look forward to adding our own beast to the mix this summer. She'll be a silver 66 with a black gloss top where the vinyl is supposed to be.

The same thing happens around here too.I wouldn't worry about it. The best thing is,a bunch of us(N.E. Chapter) usually contact each other to meet at a certain cruise spot. You should see the reaction of all the brand x'ers when we invade the parking lot!

Then you hear people whispering, "those are Buick's!,check 'em out!"

    Definately cool stuff!

Out here in Buffalo there is a few Buick guys, but they NEVER go to the cruise nights or shows. Occassionally there may be one or two, but usually I'm the solo act. I keep trying to get some of the other guys to come, but nobody seems interested. The Mopar guys show up with a half dozen 'cuda's sometimes and there is always a few Chevelles, but it would be totally awesome a bunch of Riv or GS guys all showed some nights.

I've only seen one or two GSX's around here, but I know there's more. Buffalo is a Chevy town, but it would sure be nice to just once invade one of these Chevy and Ford dominated shows with some really nice Buicks. I'm really getting sick of doing it alone. There is about a dozen Riv guys around here, we all are ROA members, but they have no desire to show their rides unless it's at a Buick only event. That's truly sad. We all have some really nice rare cars you don't just see every day. :spank:

I agree with you Joe. Out here in the Chicaoland area there are TONS of Buick guys, but hardly anbody takes 'em out.
I went to several "Buick night" cruises this past summer and hardly any Buicks showed up. Why have a car if your going to squirel it away in a garage and never drive it?
I think it would be so cool to show up to a cruise with a bunch of healthy Buicks to show people that there were other cars built in that era besides Chevy and Ford.

    GSXMEN Got Jesus?

HA.....talk about an 'identity crisis'. If we've got it bad....imagine what someone driving an Acadian or a Beaumont goes thru!!!:Brow: :Brow:

Do they hang out with the Chevy crowd....Pontiacs...???:Do No:

The ignorance on our Buicks doesn't just happen with the older models either. A guy once asked me how I liked my newer Monte Carlo?? (I was driving my '96 Riv). I said, "my WHAT"??? Then I told him Montes never looked that good!!!:Brow:  :TU:

I hadn't thought about it until you guys mentioned it but there area fair number of buicks in my area as well, off the top I would say that I could come up with at least 50 cars that could take part in a cruise, but I would say that only 5 to 10 of regularly take part in any cruise nights. And I've been to quite a few. Why do you think that Buick owners bypass the cruise nights?

Some of the same things happen here in a near by town (Elizabethton, Tennessee) at the weekly cruise-in. Many nights there are over 300 cars there, but maybe 1 or 2 Buicks on average.:Dou: However, when my father, brother and myself roll in in a herd of Buicks, the people seem happy to see something different. They love my brother's 66 Dual Quad Riv. My 71 GS always sparks a conversation with some who know their reputations. I like getting all of them parked together. Seems like that draws attention to them. However, in local shows, they don't get the respect some basic other cars do. My father's newly restored 64 Riv. got beat by an inferior Mopar last summer for best of show. The best Riv. on the planet would have problems with a very nice more popular car here in TN when the trophies are handed out!!!:af:

The last time I was at hwy 100 (biiiiiig cruise/street race/gathering every saturday night), we had stopped at this ice cream spot and while we were there, you could hear all these damn ricers out on the street, packs of them coing down the road (3 lanes wide) all with thier fart pipes on, bleh. However, the parking lot of this place apparently was the "muscle" parking lot, alot of mustangs but a few older cars including a 2nd gen camaro w/slicks and no hood with what sounded like a radical cam in it. About 10 minutes before we left, this ferrari f-50 pulls in and everyone acts like it's no big deal...until the guy walks into the ice cream place, all of a sudden there's a bunch of people all staring at this very nice car. ^_^
