Nope can't control the weather but Please let me know when any show was Cancelled due to a little rain . ? Hell the BCA Buick Open rained the entire day and still had 100+ cars .
I didn't bring this up but since you insist on going there ...

I work at a theater . If we sell ONE ticket we run the film . We don't close shop & send everyone packing ..

You have my # if you would like to discuss further

PS I hope someone gave Dave an honorary Gold for dragging his car there . I feel bad for or anyone else coming specifically to get their car judged .

PSS I understand about the racing safety issues . I was inquiring specifically about the car show

PSSS if you join us at BCA PDX next summer Ill buy you a rain slicker so you won't melt .

    ... and that was done with a 4-speed and 3.90 gears !!

I thought my 1,400 miles round trip was a long haul but you certainly take and deserve the accolades for 2013 Buick Highway Star. It was AWESOME to see you and your fine steed attending, and I thought of both you and Adam Martin (who drove his 1958 RoadMaster hundreds of miles as well) several times on my way home in Sport'nWood.

... When I got close to NYC and had to cross both rivers to get to L.I. my GPS said the easiest way through was STRAIGHT ACROSS MANHATTEN !?!?!?!? So, I listened to my electronic mistress of directions and took the Lincoln Tunnel into Manhatten, right through Times Square on 42nd st and over to the east side where I exited via the Midtown Tunnel. I got some seriously weird looks from people as I idled at the cross town lights .. as well as a few thumbs up and "Nice Ride!!" It certainly was a fun way to end the trip.

I am glad you enjoyed you trek out and back .. I KNOW you enjoyed your time at the even by the Perma-Smile you wore the whole time there.

It rains inside your movie theater ?

.. oh wait, I get it. It costs more to run the projector for 1 vs 1,000 :puzzled:

I do understand what you are saying Don but I dont understand why you are berating the point. Renting the track for the day for only the car show (which has been diminishing as all of them have..) would have been a fiscally irresponsible move for the CLUB and its Members. While we are not a for profit business with thousands and thousands in the coffers, those who volunteer their time and have been elected into a position of leadership must determine what is best for all.

How much did the BCA pay for the show field ? was it paid in advance ? I'll pass on the poncho and the Rain-N-Show theme but thanks for the offer. that must have been a heck of a good time

.. and it was more than a little rain. Did it stop raining ? yes .. but if you were a show-only guy and woke up that morning early to set sail for the event - you would have checked the weather report and seen it was raining and going to continue .. possibly on and off throughout the day. Most I know would have rolled over and gone back to sleep. Some people at the host hotel pulled up and hauled out before the official announcement was made.

We hope to have an alternate plan for the show next year where it is not dependant on rental of the track, yet everyone - racers included - can enjoy

Daaaah.....APPLES and ORANGES dude ! :Dou: :Dou: :Dou:

Were you at the event, because you're awfully vocal about something that didn't directly effect you personally !

Join the club and become a BOD and see if you can improve things.

I was at the Nationals one year and it rained for 4 days straight, we went to the Corvette factory three times, Holly factory twice, Corvette Museum a couple of times, movies, bowling and by the end of the week we wanted to shot our selves. NO CAR SHOW and NO RACING.

No one bitched and moaned (or asked for money back) because we accepted what mother nature delt us and we were all happy just to hang out and be with our Buick Brothers and Sisters for a few days.

Most of the car show guys cars have never seen rain and I feel most of the cars headed home anyway...so what's the big deal.

Long live the GSCA....BPG...and the BCA !!! *

*Let's stop bitchen about each other and have fun together !!! :TU: :TU: :TU:

We would have had to have over 400 show cars to cover the expense of the track location. I haven't seen that many show cars at a Buick event in many many years.

Movie theaters can also recoup losses by showing the film over and over again, day after day. Our non-profit club puts on a show once a year.

Your Idea's to help us all be successful are appreciated .. I apologise if you see my exchange as baiting you but conversation is healthy. Stewing over something never is ..

I believe we did reach out to the Pontiac guys - they wanted nothing to do with a combined show/race. Even if they had agreed, it then becomes a huge chore of split responsibilities as well as how the gate $$ gets divided. Its a good idea on the surface but many difficulties arise when the details are sweated out.

I know the NE Chapter tried this as well with O/P (and possibly Cad) invited to join us .. less than a handful of each showed up.

    Ron,
No, I wasn't. I had a family issue to deal with or I would have been. It does affect me personally as I have a Huge financial investment and long time friend investment in these cars, and I don't want to see it disappear.

Trust me, me and other board members have Weekly discussions how to grow our Hobby. Tony is right only a few members in his age range, and that's not good !

This is the 3rd largest Buick club in the world, NATIONAL EVENT! not a local sonic show! I understand there is great expense to a show but can we afford NOT to have it ? I received several text saying " be glad you didn't make it" I hate to hear that.

Thanks Alan, I did not know that. It was something bought up in a discussion I had with Duane, and thought it might be worth looking into. Sorry I missed you, I would have attended if it had been possible.

Well, rain is a bummer, but it happens.

As a person who spent many years towing thousands of miles to Bracket Races, and National Events, I can tell you that that poor weather is simply the chance you take.

Sounds like everyone had a great time in the parking lots and such, and that is a good portion of why most of us go to these deals.

I would encourage the BOD's to located a suitable host hotel and have the car show on Friday Evening, that way rain won't wipe the whole deal out. Now that your down to the two day/ end on Saturday deal, you may have to refine you scheduling. Car show and racing worked for several years together, but it my opinion that you should advertise the Car show in advance, at an off-site location, after the racing is done for the day at the track.

    Just my .02.

I commend Sean and the Board for the correct decision to not pay 8K for an unsuitable facility, due to weather, and risk the financial health of the organization. I am glad to see it's in good hands these days.

PS... easy on the "Lassister hater" nonsense.. No one is more qualified to comment on this than I am, since I started the movement for a new club.. It's always been stated, we have no fight with any other club, just doing our own thing.

Nobody hates Richard, certainly not me, even if we did poke at him and have some fun at his expense at times... it was never mean spirited, and come on, if you answer the phone with different names, you have to expect we are gonna have some fun with you..

Now Dallas Jones... that's a different kettle of fish.. :spank:

    Adam, thanks for the explanation.

No matter what happened this year, we will still be back next year for sure. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a couple of extra days off to catch the whole event.

I had driven about 2 hours towards the track Saturday when I found out it was shut down. I was crushed, but not because of time/gas/whatever but because I knew I wouldn't get to see the friends I've made through this event and make new ones as I do every time i go. I booked the host hotel rooms as soon as they were available, and had to cancel last minute due to the closing on our new home being delayed. Bummer, but it happens. Anyway, from my knowledge of the situation the BODs made the smart move. Thanks for all your guys (and gals) hard work, hope to see ya next year.

So the rain won, that stinks. must have cheated. LOL. In detroit it was good weather. When to a car show at a Buick dealer but no Buicks. they must have all been at the BPG nats.

---------- Post added at 09:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:14 PM ----------

After reading 4 pages of comments, I am going to add my two cents, since I flew out from WA for the event.

Car shows in the rain? I have done more than my share, and we here in the Pac NW probably do more than most people. BUT, I will add that I typically do NOT go to a show in the rain, if its already raining and the forecast is for it rain until noon. The only exception is probably our BCA Buick Show, which I WORK at. I have skipped it before when it rained when I wasn't working the event.

We do get 100+ cars at the event when it rains. That is because in a lot of ways it is like the BPG parking lot party (but w/o as much booze), people hanging out and talking Buicks. BUT we also have shelter to get out of the rain. There is 1 covered area at NTR and that is it. A car show there in the rain is not my idea of fun.

We also don't have concourse judging, so a lot of guys don't bring their "nicest car" out when it rains. I think a lot of local guys with the high scoring concourse cars would have left them at home and driven something else. Not all of them, as many of them did have their "nice cars" out in the rain.

It isn't just the car show guys who missed out, the racers did as well. They invest a lot of money for a weekend of racing, and am sure many were looking to win some back.

IMHO, it was the right decision. Could the show have been held? Sure, and there probably would have been 50 - 100 cars tops. The numbers weren't there on Friday like they were in 2009 or 2010, and they probably wouldn't have been there on Saturday given the rain.

Sure, those guys (the ones who were willing to take their cars out in the rain) would have gotten trophies, awards, judged score sheets, etc. And then next year, there wouldn't have been a BPG, because it probably would have bankrupted the club. I bet everyone one of those guys, if given a choice of showing their car and the club folding, or not getting to show their car and the club continuing to have these fantastic gatherings, would chose the latter.

I had a great time. Was I disappointed the event on Saturday got cancelled? You bet I was. Did I blame the BPG BOD's? Did I think they did the wrong thing? Nope. Once you learn the facts (the cost and that the decision had to be made early in the morning), I don't see how you could fault them.

Hats off to having a fantastic Thursday and Friday night. I wish BG had half the night life that the BPG show does!!!!! All there is to look forward to after dinner there is visit from the Mustang guys in their 95 fastback with their fireworks......
