I think you did a great job on the car show,Brad!!! At next year's show I'd be glad to give you my help. Thanks again to you and your family.:TU:
I agree Gary - Judge in concours only and have a *HUGE* 'cruise night' where you show what you bought. Every car, in whatever condition, has special points. After all, they're all BUICKS :TU:
No need for awards.......but I still like the option of having my car judged so I guess I will go to the BCA shows for that (or enter it in concours at the BPG event). I would pay an extra fee to have my car judged (100,200 or 400 piont system).. Some people like to fix their cars up for racing and others take pride in restoring them (and yes driving / showing them also). I drove my car 200 miles to the show and I still wanted it judged. I am not tring to flame anyone or be sarcastic, but I enjoy the car show part of the Nats If you do not want your car judged, have it for display only and let the rest of us be judged. Everyone can still park together just like a cruise nite. No matter what is decided for next years BPG Nats (show / no show / cruise) I will still be there...... :beer
Mike, I'll make you a deal, if you want your car judged next year, but don't want to put it in concours, bring it over to me and I will go through it. I will "pre-judge" the car, so you have an idea of what the point deductions would be. Duane PS. There will also be NO CHARGE for this service. It will be a pleasure to really look over your car. Looks like I will need to brush up on my 68's by next year, and remember to duck with those low opening 68 hoods. Guys, This does bring up a good point, If you want to know where your cars stand, put them in concours. We check them out for free, and I send each owner a copy of the judging sheets. Now you can't get a better deal then that can you?
Just to let you all know that I look forward to car show awards-to me it's a challenge and like things in life,it's a game of chance. I really like the competition and to see how people's car's fare against one another. The car show is great and if you win a trophy-it's icing on the cake.
On the Flip Side I respect all opinions. Even though I've joined the BPW car show at E-town for the past 5 years (paid the show entrance fee to support the club), I have asked for my car not to be judged for the prior 2 years and I will do so again in two weeks. If I'm not racing, I'll also volunteer to judge (non-concours, of course). I just remember going to shows in the late '80s, driving my '71 Skylark convertible NE rust-bucket, and not seeing any Buick. At that time, I had no idea about the NE club - only the local and E-town swap meet scene. Currently, I'm happy for people just to see my car and BS with my Buick siblings. I like to give some people an opportunity I didn't have 15 years ago. Also, thanks to the Good Lord above, I have been given the opportunity to own the car of my dreams (since I was 15) - this is THE BEST award I can possibly think of :bglasses: I guess I'm not a 'competitive' person. I'll see you in two weeks Carl :TU:
Rob i wouldnt count on being the only car in the Riviera show class at the BPG Nats, we had 5 in Riv and 2 in Riv modified. It was a great turnout and i had a excellent time. look forward to you joining us next year.
Car Show Problems I sent a PM to Duane on showing our cars and if he feels its wourthy of considering he I'm sure will post it, AL
Greg i meant of the 72' year only. Sorry about the confusion. Are all stock rivieras in the same class?
Rob, yes just one class for all stock (less than 4 mods) Rivs and one for modified Rivs. probably have to be a ROA show to have classes for every year. I was happy to see the turn out as it was, i thought it was great representation for the Riv.
Buick Show Judging First I would like to say on the Buick show part Duane and Brad did a super job in a short peiod of time being under staffed. In retrospect of my behavior at the BPG National Show was less then professional and apologies to Carl Rychlik and John (3shields) in the show field. I should of went to Brad or Duane only about any problems I saw instead of possibly ruining a super event for another member. If I causes anyone else any trouble I"m sincerely sorry. AL.
Al- I'm really glad to see you've had some time to put some perspective on the whole thing. I also think it takes a big man to post the apology you did in a public forum like this. May hat is off to you for doing so. :TU: I hope this mean you'll be at the BPG nats next year? Regardless of the car show results, your Sherwood Green car is a beautiful ride that people would miss seeing if you didn't come. Of course, you'd be missed too! And that's what it's really all about!
