Haha, I do have the feeling with some folks there was a "there goes the neighborhood" moment with that announcement.
I wouldn't race my skylark, more of a weekend cruiser, but I would welcome the performance aspect into bca, I am not a current member of either, but before I got away from it, the bca was expanding to allow customs, so I think performance cars would be welcome. I like racing and showing, and it would be fun to have a day at the show field and a day at the racetrack, or do like the power tour and do both, the option to show or race, or both.
I have yet to find out where the hi-jinx takes place. Maybe next year This might not be such a bad thing. Wont be much longer and all the old fuddy ,performance hating, duddys will be passed on and then it will just be us.
The BCA meet in Batavia NY (2005) had racing at Lancaster Speedway one of the days (set up by Roberta I believe). Maybe 20 cars showed up to run down the track and it was a good time:3gears: Even though she kicked my butt in a head to head race:grin: I did score a gold award at that meet with my GS but I do remember one of the judges telling me I was cheap for not replacing the original convertible top (it has a 1/4" split in one spot).. The judge was not joking around when he said that too meo No:
I never was a BPG member or attended a BPG event, time and live kinda gets in the way. I have been a GSCA member sense about 1985. Was a BCA member years ago and let my membership lap. Have been to about 5 BCA national events, and over the years seen them change there thinking on modified cars. I drove my 68 GS350 to Ames IA an and had a good time in the driven class. Spent most of the time talking with other GS people, not setting by my car. Went to Springfield Mo, last year and displayed my 65 GS, on Sat, was asked to bring it over with 65 GS cars that were being judged. That was nice. The modified classes are growing and I enjoyed seeing them. For me, I think the BPG performance addition to BCA will be great. I have been to BG many times and always take my 70 street car and always race it, it is not that fast, and no show car, but always a fun time, at either the show or race. Thanks Bill.
I seriously doubt there will ever be any drag racing directly supported or organized at any BCA Nationals simply because their insurance won't allow it. I brought this up, admittedly several years ago, when we were organizing the 1995 BCA Nats in Dallas. The insurance thing was brought up almost immediately and the idea was dead. Has that aspect been figured out?
It's my understanding that with the BPG bod's experience on this matter, they are working with the BCA to at the very least bring it to the table.
And we're going to have to catch those ford guys that keep setting off fireworks behind the hotel, they might get us in trouble,.:Brow:
Mike, sorry you lost! Racing at BCA Nationals occurred at the following meets:1999 Columbus, OH, Central Ohio Chapter, at National Trails, 2000 Richmond, VA Northern Virginia Chapte(now disbanded)at Richmond Speedway, the "Buick Blackhawk" debuted there, 2002 Kokomo, IN Indiana Chapter, @ Bunker Hill Dragway, 2003 Flint, MI Buicktown Chapter @ Milan Dragway where the Buick Bug and the Buick Blackhawk ran down the track!!! 2005 Batavia, NY Raced @Lancaster Speedway then the lawyer came as president of the BCA and racing ended, hopefully it can happen again. BTW I was a BCA BOD member from 1997-2003 and President 1998-2000.
