It appears that Xenforo has configuration options. Can it be configured to look similar to VB? I like having the new posts in series instead of looking at them by category.
9:10 AM FRIDAY JAN - 9 - 2014 approx 70 hours left then no V8B for about a week . goodbye cruel world .
The only problem I have with the board currently is when I type a pm, I have to type REAL SLOW. I can barely type at all. Replying to a thread is fine, no problem. Anyone else having this problem?
Del, With the changeover to new software, this has been delayed.. and hopefully will happen faster.. go ahead and read back to one of my previous posts, it explains it all.. JW
Todd, We had that issue of slow response/'gibberish output, due to an editor issue in the reply box... those boxes are up in the upper LH corner of the reply box screen.. click on them to see if you can get a difference. I do hundreds of PM's a year, and have not seen this issue. JW
That might be it! Had to switch the editor mode. I think that's what you meant. The initial test worked fine. Hopefully that does it. Wish it would default to the WYSIWYG mode. Thanks!
My IT guy just got back to me and he said (of course) the easiest way to go is to the latest version of VB, but if we know there are definite support issues that may not be a good option. He also suggested phpBB. http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/phpbb/ I don't know if phpBB will handle our file sizes. I like this site the way it is. As an ex-software I appreciate the amount of work that goes into writing and maintaining a piece of software like this. If the latest Rev fixes the bugs and we can get support I'd say go that way.
Thanks for checking Phil, We looked at phpBB, issue with that, and other other "free" software is handling a database the size of what we are running here. Current database is just shy of 20 GB JW
jim : not that big a deal - just lookin over the tech mumbo jumbo . i would be NO help . no real V8B irons in the fire right now anyway . you guys just do whats gotta be done . although the only real thing i noticed from last update was the picture upload procedure - have to kinda do one pic at a time it seems . at least on my computer with my skill set .
I'm on that forum as well, just don't post much. It does have a nice easy feel to it, making navigation rather simple almost like here. Of the options JW proffered, I like orangepower the best, but I did not go beyond their opening page.
I'm on http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/forum/187-20142015-silverado-sierra-accessories-modifications/ . It works really well. http://www.invisionpower.com/apps/board/ It is ad supported, but I assume that is not required.
It's up, and in testing form right now. Your going to love the picture uploads.. totally easy. Have to tighten up some spam/bot issues, and Mike is working on the look of it now.. To view it, go to www.v8buick.net You can log in and play with it, all your data should be there.. we did have an issue with attachments coming over, that cause was located and will be repaired when we do the actual transfer. We have to reconfigure that site to for it to look more like what we are used to, and then work out any bugs that exist. When we transfer to the new software, we will be shutting down the board here for 24-48 hours, and taking the current database, and replacing what you see there now with it. So don't post anything over there that you don't want to lose. JW
