Wow! I was just looking at that car on the BJ website, and it states the prevoius owner spent $218,000 to restore it. :eek2:
Very nice and it must be a record; however it is the type of resto that changed a billionaire into a millionaire.
Attn - Mark and Chris! Mark and Chris, Say, I'm planning a trip to Florida in a couple of weeks. You're not going there, are you?:bla: It would be a nice courtesy to the rest of us if you would give us a "heads up" whenever you two are planning to leave your home states, so we can make our travel plans accordingly!
I'm thinking it's a record for a Riviera myself. While my late father was showing a '37 SS-100 Jag he restored at a show, a kid came up to him and said "You must be rich to have a car like that!" My dad replied, "No, this is what made me poor." p
Next car I build I am taking to BJ myself...maybe a 69 Stage 1 4 speed...:TU: $58,000.00 was good money for the Silver car. But not a record.
Re: Attn - Mark and Chris! Sunny now:bla: but Chris said he will bring dome rain home to you. And the rivi wasn't very nice,if they paid 200k to a shop they got hosed.
Re my post#15 (error) and Louie's (breakinbuick) post#16 - my bad - I was not watching B-J - I had picked up the Mecum re-broadcast over the weekend and that's what my comment re the "wing" was about. My apologies for mixing apples and oranges. The extraneous Real Estate comments remain. Rip Rohring :Comp: :error: :error:
Yea I agree color makes a diference but that 70 was more of a gold and I saw it before it was striking!! look at my posting # 66 I had the numbers wrong and was corrected they wanted much more at the lot but I put a link to some pics and judge for you self. Iam not sure why the bidding didnt get stronger? Dont get me wrong it was sweet to se a stepchild kick butt.:blast:
I happen to know of a nice, numbers-matching, RED '69 Stage 1 4-speed that is ripe for restoration...now if only I could find the time and the money to do it.:bglasses:
Looks like for the most part the poor economy has affected BJ this time worse than last year. The auction has steadily been loosing total sales since 07. It went from around $115 million down to approx. $65 million in 09. I think it will be less this time around. Plus they have added extra days in the last couple years for lower priced cars early on. Extra days and still less $$. Only 4 sales last year were over $500k and only one of those over $1 million which was an airplane. This year with almost all the big hitters already sold they have only had 2 sales over $500k and one was an airplane. Top sale of $671k and again it was an airplane. Looks like things are getting back closer to where they should be for classic cars. A few years back it just got stupid! No Mopars are worth $1million plus and no Mustangs are worth $800k. Investors maybe have gone back to the stock market and left classic cars to us who have always loved them. Even the mighty Vettes have fallen this time around. I laughed hearing the announcers' amazement when a couple BB 67 4 speed Vettes in top shape didn't bring $100k!
