So Taulb and I were talking, and we're thinking about going to an event (albeit last minute) despite deciding earlier in the year when such things are normally planned, not to. Unfortunately The East Coast Buick Regionals at Cecil and GS Nationals in Bowling Green are the same weekend :blast:. SO, which event does my V8Buick brethren suggest we attend? Some consideration has to be given that BG is 4 hours away vs Cecil being 8 hours away. I doubt my car will be taking the trip either way as its not in race form and not "show car" enough to make it worth taking.

So what say you guys? We're in between a rock and a hard place, as we've got buick pals attending both. He's never been to either, Ive been to BG but not Cecil. All opinions welcome!

I didn't schedule anytime off this year for the BG event. But the last time I was there (8years ago) there were a lot of the turbo cars and not that many 60/70s cars there. If that helps you decide.

On another note, you 2 going to the BCA show for 2017? Up north of Chicago? I'll going to take off that weekend and bring the car I hope.

Well, I don't know if this will help you decide or not, but all the NE guys are going to Cecil. I think I can speak for most if not all of the club that the choice isn't even close. I have gone to both events every year since 2000. I think it really sucks that they decided to schedule BG the same weekend of Cecil. I always look forward to BG, and always have a great time. At either event, you will be able to test your car. I encourage you to do that as soon as you can. You learn an awful lot about your car, and it will reveal where you are lacking. It is intimidating at first, and I am always nervous something will happen, so I get that, really I do, but you need to do it. That's what these cars were built for. If you aren't going to run the car, I'd say BG just makes more sense for you.

    Hey Ryan,

I was at BG last year and although there were alot of turbo cars, the V8's were pretty well represented also. Havent really even thought about the BCA in 2017, although I'm still on the fence about the BCA to be honest (long story), so we'll see if I even renew after this year.

    Larry,

I'd be lying if I said the NE guys going to Cecil wasnt a big consideration. Truthfully, if it wasn't for that Cecil may not even be in the running. What kind of attendance/car count do you guys normally get up there for this event?

We normally have MAGNA which is Mid Atlantic GN Association, they run the car show on Saturday. That was a huge success last year. Not sure of the car count for the show. The total race car count last year was up around 150, that doesn't include the show. We also get the MANDRA guys,

    http://www.mandraracing.com/

The payouts for our race classes total around 7500.00 John tells me.

John also told me there are also 2 other groups attending this year, one of them, a stock appearing group and another group similar to MANDRA.

The Friday test and tune is great. I could make a pass at will last year. I've been running mid 11's for 4 years now. Probably gonna spectate this year as I'm pretty sure my car isn't going any faster unless I take some weight out of it, lose the GV, and go to some lighter wheels and skinnies up front.

Since I didn't make it to the show last year, I never renewed, I'm still on the edge of renewing. Next I will definitely be heading to BG. Hopefully Cecil isn't the same weekend next year. Already planning family events for next year, unless I get tied up in building the shop.

Between Cecil for the Northeast folks and the Pure Stock race for the Michigan folks.....i am afraid the GS Nationals are gonna take a MAJOR hit.
In fact.....if it is really bad.....it may be the last GS Nationals.

I encourage anyone who has ever wanted to attend and has not......do it this year !

The Quick 16 bump will probably be in the high 10's this year because of all the missing heavy hitters attending the other events.

But you can bet on one thing....the good Lord willing.....

    WildBill will be there !

    Until then....

    Peace WildBill

Either event is worth the trip. I will be in BG.

The thing is tho, just pick one and go. Dont sit on the fence. These events will not be around forever.

    Shawn,

We will be attending the GS Nats in BG next month and I plan to drive my black '72 sedan, my dad is driving his '70 GS (Kokomo), and another gentleman will be driving his freshly restored '70 Stage 1 as well. I think I have a friend that might be able to help me out by driving my '67 GS to the event for me as well. So if you decide to go to BG maybe we can finally meet. Regardless of which event you attend, try to bring your car if possible, these events need as many cars in attendance as possible. I can assure you that lots of people would like to see it.

 I didn't mean to make it sound like it was a problem. When I asked Jim to build me a motor, I told him I wanted to the car to run mid 11's and I wanted to be able to drive it anywhere. I got everything I wanted. Cecil County Dragway is 340 miles round trip for me. I have driven it down, ran the car, and driven home for 4 years now. I really am taking a big chance by not trailering the car. I was reminded of this yesterday at E Town when Jacob Martinez had a transmission go out on his 73 Buick Century after an afternoon of racing. He got the car home, but he was stuck for awhile.

I'll be there! I hope it's not the last Nats, and I'll surely miss the folks who go to Cecil instead. I'm sure it's a tough call for a lot of you. Glad you're coming, Bill--we need someone to watch for the 'stang guys.

I saw poor Jakes misfortunes on evil-book, glad he was able to make it home at a decent hour.

In text it is hard to convey a bit of a jealousy in my post haha, mid 11s are definitely not a problem! Speaking of.. I know you mentioned that you were spectating, but is the brown beast making an appearance?

Probably not. I can enjoy the event more when I don't have to worry about the car.

    Hey Larry ,
Just to clarify Goodguys bumped the Nationals dates . No one can help that and many other days nhra ect are filled . They got what was available .
Not too mention Many ppl been asking for an ealier date .
I hate the NE gang won't be there , but no one set out for a duplicate date conflict .

I guess I have to bring it then:grin: I don't get any credit for bringing, showing, and racing my car all those years?

Hoping the date conflict does not happen again. Sadly, you would think for all the years and $$$$$$ that have been put into BG and their area for the event plus Beech Bend and having an event that is the longest traditional single marquee brand event other than Mopar Nationals that has survived it would hold merit for holding the same date, but alas it is beyond the club's control. I agree i would say to anyone pick an event and show up and attend. Keep the events surviving means showing up with the cars and year after year doing what you can to keep the cars on the road/track and the fun and passion alive. I cant believe this all started for me back at age 7 in 1989 with a trip in the 87 GN down to BG. Hooked ever since!

I am hoping for both events for great weather and a lot of fun!

I'm now thinking I need to get the 67 buttoned up to bring to Cecil. I'll have to get busy. Hate the fact that BG got moved on top of Cecil, but as a LOOOONGER time member of the NE Chapter thats where my heart is. I'll miss all the folks that I always see at BG.
