    Rich,
I'll look for one of those break booster things, thanks. The jets I'm running now are 69's in the front and 85's in the back. As for what my plugs look like, I need to make a hard run down the road and then pull over to see what they look like. Right now now they're black with carbon because I've been cruising around town.
My tires are 27 inches tall so I should run alittle less rpm's through the traps.
I wasn't sure running rich or not would make it blow blue smoke.
    Rick:)

    Rich,
They are used in very good shape.
If you want to try them, I'll ship them out.
No hitch, they are yours for the asking.

    Hey Bill,

Thanks for the offer! Would this be a for keeps deal or just to try? I'm not sure I'd want to use an install kit on something that wasn't going to stay in there. Also, are they for a 3 series carirer?

If they turn out to be the right combination with the 700 or a TH400 then they are yours to keep.
If you end up changing them again you can send them back.
It's a trial and error thing until you find the right setup to compliment the charger.
I'll box them up tomorrow and send them on their way.
E mail your adress to me.

    Rich,
If I go the procharger route with my build I am sure the payback will be in the form of advice on your part.
I'm sure I will have 624,378 questions that will need to be answered. And being that you will be the resident "procharger expert", I'll keep you busy!!!!!
On a serious note, it is my pleasure to help. I've been a motorhead since the mid 60's and even though I was primarily a "bow tie guy", since I became involved with the "Buick bunch" it has renewed the passion I have for this "hobby".
I haven't met people as enthusiastic and passionate about their cars and the sport since the early 70's.
Every person I've met in person and through this board and the BPG have been friendly, helpful, and caring. Truly a great bunch of guys and gals.
    I'm havin' a blast!!!
    :beer
    I'm boxing them now!
    Fedex in the morning!!!!

    Very SWEET Bill!

You would have to know I'd be willing to answer everyone of your questions to the best of my knowledge / experiance :TU: . That pretty much goes for anyone. What good is learning it if you can't share what you've been through?? (that's how I look at it anway).

I'll let you know once the gears get here. Please let me know what I owe you for shipping...... giving me the gears is one thing, but paying for shipping is another :beer . I really do appreciate it :TU:

    Update

After looking at the Gasket, block surface, and head, I don't think I'm going to have the heads O-ringed.

I'm not sure if you guys are aware of this, but I sprayed "copper coat" on the gasket before applying it. The head when unbolted, came right off! After lookiing at the surfaces, and pulling the gasket off the block, It appears the coper coat didn't seal to the gasket. All the copper coat is stuck to the block and head and the gasket came off clean as a whisle.

In my experiance with the Corteco Gasket, and TA's orange crush gasket applied dry, they have stuck very well, and leave Gasket material on the heads and block (you pretty much have to pri on them to get the head to seperate).

In order to find out exactly what be be gotten away with and what can't, Chad and I have decided to try and use the corteco gasket again (.060 thick) Dry this time with Studs instead of bolts. We have no reason to beleive this setup won't handle 8 to 10psi. Of coarse time will tell ;) .

If for some reason this setup fails, it will mean O-ringing the heads, and using a copper gasket. If that's the case than Great, that means a bit more work, a little less play and a angry wife  . However, after this bit of research, the buick community should know what will need to be done to make a 455 withstand 8 to 10 psi.

    I'll keep you all posted...........

If you're using a good quality head gasket I'd leave the spray copper in the can... In your situation it's just one more variable to give you grief. In fact if it were mine I'd wipe both surfaces with a lint free rag soaked in brake clean then toss in the gasket and torque as needed.

    regards

Yep.... exactly what I'd done in the past...... but I was giving the advice to use copper coat this time a round (by someone that giving me nothing but good advice so I did). I'm not one bit blaming this person at all, it's just another one of those life experances. What works for some, doesn't always work for others :)

From now on, Brake clean and apply...... that's for sure.

    My .02

Why did you spray with copper coat? Isn't that JUST for steel shim gaskets? I definetely think that's what would not allow the composite gasket to "seal". I've always done comp. gaskets CLEAN and ABSOLUTELY DRY! Especially no oil. But then again I've never "boosted" either. Mine are always glued to the block and heads a little, not excessively though. I think Fel Pro is adamant about clean & dry.

I just read your last post, so never mind the above...

I'm SURE that the studs are better than bolts (even new ARP's) in your application.

I think that this was pretty much a fluke... I'm hoping you'll be OK this time around! Good Luck!

    Rich,
Dry is the way to fly. That's my experience with composites.
Studs are also one of my preferred mrthods. That little bit of "stretch" on the stud gives them the tad more holding power.
I've seen them on 13.5 -1 with 250 shots hold for multiple runs without blowouts.
One other thought, as trivial as it may seem.
When was the last time you had your t-wrenches recalibrated?
I've seen them go off up to 35 lbs. over time.
    And that could be disasterous!
Gears went out this morning. You should have them by the beginning of the week. USPS.
    :)

    Thanks Fellas,

Ken, in the 4 or 5 years I've had my wrench, It's never been recalibrated........... Where can I take it to have this done, or tested (sears?).

I'm pretty sure with studs and dry gaskets, it will live this time around as well........... time will tell the true story. Unfortunatly, it's turning winter here and there's not much car time left at all

We may not know just how reliable they are until next year.

    Hey Rick,

If your plugs are black with carbon build up, chances are so are your pistions and combustion chambers. Question. When you get after it and it blows smoke, is it constant smoke? If you do it again right after making a hard run through 2nd and 3rd, does it still smoke on the second run? If not, chances are the smoke your seeing is just the carbon build up burning off.

What number power valve are you running up front? Do you have one in the rear too?

Soooo... does this mean you're going to shuck new gaskets and studs on and go get a time slip SOON??
