I used to work at a local gun club. They had a pistol range that was decent, and I got to shoot for free. I have had a couple of pistols, my two favorites are: Beretta 96fs (.40 cal) HS Arms 9mm (HS2000 model) best pistol I have ever had for the price. Springfield arms bought the contract to import them from Croatia, now it is called the XD9, and they jacked the price up by about $100. Still a good handgun for the money IMHO, it kicked the crap out of my Beretta in terms of accuracy.
My duty pistol is a Glock 21 (.45). It's my off duty always carry as well. My frame is big enough that the full size auto doesn't get in the way too much for concealed carry. Love the sites and real darn accurate out to 50'. I have to say I really do like the 1911 models for function and feel - but 13+1 in my Glock is nice to boot!
I got a Colt 45. Same thing I carried as an MP in the Army. Refined? Hardly. But I can run it over, throw it, leave it in the rain etc, then clean it and shot. It likes to keyhole ball type, but shoots hollow points well. I also got a hundred year old 38 Special. Pretty darn accurate! Although the grip could used changed to a meatier one.
Pistols I have a 357 colt python and a 44 desert eagle and a couple of 22 auto's as far as pistols go. But i would like to have a 475 wildey magnum hand gun i think thats the big daddy of them all. :blast:
The 1911 Wilson's are my duty guns. Once I shot the 1911 I was hooked for good. We are the only department around here that allows us to carry a single action weapon (the chief is retired special forces) Although I carried the Glock19 as my first weapon, and 15,000 plus rounds later with zero malfunctions, I still love it. Had a HK USP .45 (full-size) as a duty weapon too, but like the G21, it proved too big for my smaller hands. Mechacode, yes in most states you need to be 21 to purchase a handgun, and 18 to buy a rifle.
I've got a para-ordnance P-12, Colt delta elite and a stainless delta elite gold cup (my prize), Ruger super blackhawk with a 10.5" barrel, 3-screw 22 convertible, T/C contender in .223,and a mish-mash of other "stuff."
I have a TC Encore in 30-06 that i use for deer hunting. This gun is very accurate. I have gotten some groups under 4 inches at 300 yards. I live in the middle of North Dakota so i have no need for a self defense type weapon although plinking with 22 pistols is fun. ED K
I carry an old 9mm Barreta and like to practice draw, point and fire. Not sure what it's really called by the professionals? You don't use the sights, just your natural aim as adjusted by your stance. If you havent tried it, you might be surprised how affective this is. Lots of fun and the 9mms are cheap to shoot.
I currently have two baretta fs 92's in 9mm, a s&w Mod 64 4", and a Colt Woodsman 22 cal. I try to shoot at the local indoor range at least Once a month and try to shoot the local IDPA matches at lease every few months. I love the sport and wish I could shoot more often....well today sounds good i think I will swing by the range before I head home.
Glen, I believe what your talking about is "point shooting". I do practice it when I remember too. Chances are if you are ever in a sudden gun fight (god forbid), you will naturally point shoot and not aim. There are so many ways to train, and the skills perish very quickly. I am rusty as heck, and I shot about 5,000 rounds between Jan. and May!
I've got a few, but don't get to shoot as often as I'd like, here is a list of some of the highlights Smith&Wesson K22 >22LR Smith&Wesson 25/5 .45LC 8 3/8" barrell Smith&Wesson K15 .38spl 4" Smith&Wesson 39 9mm Type 14 Nambu 8mm Japanese WW2 1944 Colt 1861 Navy This one is a long gun but my favorite!! Enfield Martini-Henry .577/450 made in 1887 If you have seen the movie Zulu then you know what this one is! and mine is a shooter, all my guns are!
My Main hobby, even above my Buicks. :bglasses: 1 of my Customized Competition rifles: Because of the HoloSight (Holographic Laser! The Dot is not "projected"! You can only SEE the Dot by looking THROUGH the LENS on the Sight!), the HoloSight uses "0" Magnification (NONE!), allowing "unlimited" sight distance (as far as YOU can see). So far, this thing is Wicked Accurate up to 100 Yds. so far as I've tried. I shot a LID off of a 2 Liter Pop Bottle, at 100 Yds. I couldn't even SEE the BOTTLE, but I could just put the Red Dot on the White Lid, and BANG, it was GONE! Did I mention that Ruger's Rule! :bglasses: :TU:
I have a Marlin 30-30 for deer hunting in the brush here (with a scope). Handguns: Kimber Ultra Carry Stainless .45 Baretta .40 S&W 6 oz 7 shot .32 (the clip, loaded, weighs more than the gun...) Frank
This is not just "a" red dot sight, it's THE red dot sight! :bglasses: Used by current U.S. Military, it uses a True Laser to make a Red Dot on the Lens. It gives an "illusion" that the Red Dot is being "projected" onto the target, at a distance. That's what makes it a "Hologram" (Optical Illusion)! :eek2: No matter what angle you look into the Lens at, as long as the Red Dot is on your target, it will HIT there! :Smarty: :blast:
Pistols I have: Ruger Gov't Model Mark II Target .22, the old style with round bull barrel. CZ 83 .380 Automatic Used to have: Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 mag w/ 10.5" barrel, it was a super shooter, but I rarely used it anymore, so I traded it for a Stainless .22mag rifle. A used Argentine-made M1911A1 model, traded it for the new Ruger .22.
Hey Scott, that is pretty cool, I've never seen how those work. Who did the work on your 10/22 (I know that is what it at least USED to be)? James, I've heard those Argentine 1911's are pretty good shooters.
Mine was OK, had a, shall we say, "checkered past"...I got it in Germany from a guy who got it in Israel, who got it from a guy....... uzzled: o No: It shot pretty well, but I got tired of buying expensive ammo, so went to the target .22, which was one of the best deals I've ever made. The Ruger is more accurate than I'll ever be, lots of fun to shoot, and doesn't cost much to shoot all day long...
