And to add to my original comment hiw are they putting a price tag on it when it's not legally theirs to sell?? I get the storage fees being incured at the original yard but anywhere else is BS. Those places were storing a stolen vehicle and should be lucky if they're not being charged.
If you can get into the yard, put a GPS locating tag on the car. This car could be moved again and this time you might not accidently find it. You might have to get a Lawer in Detroit to help you get it out of the yard?
I've been thinking about this GSX. Seems to me, the guy who had the GSX on a car trailer is in this whole setup. (1) The GSX disappears from a storage facility because someone claims it's their car. (2) The storage facility doesn't check any legal papers of ID of the person claiming it's their car. That's a huge RED flag. Also tells me the storage manager is in on this steal. (3) You find the car and try to make a deal to get it back and the trailer guy moves it to a storage yard. Another Red flag. Trailer guy is in on this deal. I know you're going to find this strange, have you thought about having your friend in Detroit drive by the yard and "accidently" see the GSX and ask if it's for sale and can he get a contact number for the owner. If he can get a contact number, he calls the so-called owner and tells him he is very interested in buying this car "AS IS" for a very good price. Your friend tells him, a place where they can meet to process the deal. In the meantime, your friend contacts the Police and they go undercover to catch this thief. Tell your friend to tell the Police you will wear a wire to catch the conversation of the deal, if you are confortable doing that. Make sure your friend and Police ID an area for the meet, NOT the thief. I know this is a long shot, but if this car moves again, you may never see it again. PS, going into the storage yard to say you're interested in the car also gives you a reason to inspect the car and a way to attach the GPS locator.
Option #2. If the Police will not help you. Where I live, 10 miles south of Washington DC. We have Channel 7 On Your Side. You should contact a TV News Station in Detroit and see if they will help you and the Widow regarding this issue. News folks just love to expose a story that has theft and fraudulent dealing going on in their area. It also makes for good Press for the TV News Station too, helping a poor widow who is being Con'd out of her husband's Classic car. You should try this tactic; it just might work.

At this point, as being somewhat of a "spectator ", the owner and proper authorities are working at a solution. Hopefully that will not be a long process. Then I'll have a shot at it. Just have to play the waiting game now that communication has been established.
Just trying to post possible solutions in case you needed any. Good luck with this ordeal. VET (Navy)
That's good to hear that they're working away at getting it back. Like I mentioned before I'd still put an airtag in it.
It's all good now. Everybody that should be involved is. I'm just waiting for it to finish up and that way I can purchase it
Thank you, we are on the right track I think to solving this legally and bringing this rare GSX back. That's why I have been extremely patient in dealing with this matter. No need to rush it when I know who all of the players are and where all of the chips are on the table.
Picked up the title, engine and miscellaneous parts today. Picking up the body tomorrow. End of story.
Wait what?? That's amazing news, I'm so happy for you! There's gotta be more to the story than that. Come on, we've all been waiting so long. For the details on this.
Ya, someone had to do all the investigation, police must have been involved. Who got arrested and who created this scam?
