reply Ponch....thats pretty cool..I wish you were still working too....nobody out there seems to be making high quality stuff except for ron davis, and Id love to have a fraction of what he's making at $878 a radiator. Do you think Id be ok with an alluminum 2 row, 1in tube radiator and 2 14in fans bracket mounted to the radiator instead of a shroud?
more info I found this on ebay......has anyone heard of "superior radiator" http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...ry=33602&item=7986284018&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW Its a nice piece, but its for a camaro....
I'm with Ponch, I don't like that shrouding. Great when the fan's on, terrible when it's off, which means you'll be running that fan a lot - I'll bet even when going down the hiway.
reply I see what you guys are saying about the restrictions on the shroud.....do you think i would be better off mounting a fan with brackets, or would I be alright if it were a two fan setup like either of these?
I'd go with the rondavis-type, it'll let all the air through at highway, and that big a fan will pull more than enough through when it's on. All that being said, I'm still in favor of water-pump driven fans and their shrouds...
reply James, Both pics I posted were ron davis rads....one was just brackets and one was a shroud...which do you mean? Also how did you make out with your summit rad you bought? Could you post some pics of how it fit and looks? Rob
Whoops, I meant the top one, fan on brackets only. My Summit radiator is supposed to arrive tomorrow, I'll for sure be taking pictures and posting how it goes! New aluminum condenser AND radiator, I better not have any more concerns about engine or a/c temp! :bglasses:
reply I agree that is pretty nice ponch.... My hang up is this..... Ron Davis....extremely nice stuff.....very expensive Griffin....only a little bit cheaper than ron davis, and no fan or shroud...and they use epoxy, which nodody else seems to...I dont know if that matters or not jegs...at $179..I feel I have al ot less to lose than the other options, and I have bought their stuff before....generally summit and jegs house brands are not QUITE as high quality as other brands, but are always priced accordingly. The nice thing about the ron davis and the griffin is that they are exactly 34 1/8 wide where the others are 31....and griffin's tubes are 1.25 where ron davis is 1in. They are all good units I suppose, I dont mean to sound like any of the manufacturers I have mentioned are junk, I guess its all about personal preference. Maybe I will contact John Edwards and ask him which radiator to buy o No:
reply I guess Im so aprehensive about this because years ago, I bought a cheap radiator, and my engine boiled over, and blew a head gasket, and warped a cylinder head....$2100 later I was told that it could have been prevented had I bought a good radiator. My engine is probably pushing well into the 500-600hp range. I just want to make sure that what I buy will be enough for my application. I live in new jersey and it is about 90 all summer long here. My car isnt overheating now...it runs at a steady 210 with a 3 core brass rad and a stock clutch fan. Id be happy with it holding at 180.
just some FYI.... just some FYI...... The part number that Larry mentions 6570EX-BAX is a exact fit for a 65-70 Buick. It is identical to the chevelle radiator, and costs the same, but they added a different part number to help the techs when people call looking for an application.....but dont get excited....Griffin is out of stock on these too.
Quoting info from memory that I got off the 'Velle board : I believe that the PRC radiator from www.streetrodstuff.com is a CUSTOM unit and is around $400. They have a "build-it" worksheet on their site to where you can specify custom stuff.
I've been really pleased with the way the Howe radiator I bought does it's job, especially for the price. I'm running two staggered 10" fans and it will sit and idle in summer heat all day. Not a stock looking application, but I wasn't worried about that; I just wanted to stuff in as much width and height as possible: Devon
Just a note to anyone who plans to order the above radiator. Make sure you specify 1 1/2" inlet and outlet size, and have them move the petcock up 1". For some reason Griffin believes the lower inlet on our Buicks is 1 3/4", and that's how they'll build it unless you tell them different  Also, where they place the petcock, will interefere with the radiator support, and you'll end up using a brass plug in place of the petcock. Just tell them to move it up. Other than that, it's a drop in.
reply devon, thats a nicesetup, do you remember what the part number was, or do you know the size of the tubes. I hadnt looked at howe before because it says "fabrication required" and was feeling lazy, but summit is selling the 31 x 19 howe setup for $200. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.
I'm afraid my memory's not that good, but this weekend I'll be turning wrenches again and would be glad to take some measurements. I am pretty sure my Wildcat can handle a wider radiator than the Skylark/GS...but anyway I'll find out what I've got in there. Devon
reply I have been doing a lot of reading about these howe radiators and they seem like one hell of a product for the money....1in tubes...all welded, no epoxy....they dont look stock, but I could care less about that, my car doesnt look stock anyway. Has anyone heard anything bad about them? The only concern I have is that its a 1 3/4 inlet instead of a 1 1/2.....they dont have a listing for a 1 1/2, is that a problem? Can I go to my local autoparts store and get a different hose that will fit? Any thoughts on these rads please share them.....
I'd imagine if your local parts supply house has a good hose inventory they'd let you compare your current hose to what they have in stock to find one with the right ID. Might have a slightly different routing, but it would be worth a try. Devon
Or I figured I could solder an adapter onto the radiator outlet. I was going to do the swap this weekend, but we're going to Dallas, so it'll be next weekend before I can get to it.
