reply... ok some more FYI... well, griffin is cheaper to buy direct....but dont get all excited and call just yet, they are out of stock on these models...looking at 3 to 4 weeks to build more... As for Ron Davis....There is a difference between their universal fit ( 1A-31193) and the A body ( 11-16CL6877) that got this thread started. The universal is cheaper at $239 ( also out of stock till next week ) and does require trimming. If you upgrade to the fans and shroud the price goes to $628 ( not a bad deal since they are 14in Spal fans that sell for $157 each...I checked ). If you get the direct fit radiator, its larger, and the fans go from 14in to 16in and from 1720cfm to 2360cfm and is a direct fit with no trimming......and its price is $878.25. Their products are without a doubt a true piece of craftsmanship, but the price is just a bit steep for me.
This is an interesting thread as I have been trying to research aluminum radiators myself. Can anybody post as to what they had to do to make one of the Universal radiators fit a 70-72 Skylark GS. The Summit brand radiator seems to be a good deal but I would like to know exactly how much modification will be required to make it fit my 72 Skylark. Thanks
reply.. Ponch makes a good point...about junkyard fans...what kinds of vehicles are you guys getting these fans out of? My local junkyard is run by a bunch of jerks, they dont let you go out into the yard....you tell them what you need and they go pull it ( and charge you for it) they dont believe in browsing.... Also, if its not too much trouble could a couple of you guys post some pics of what you are running radiator wise....Id like to see what a few different ones look like. My car is pretty custom looking and I want something that looks a little different than the stock setup. Thanks rob
reply yeah I dont want to name any names, but anyone from north jersey know what Im talking about. There are actually 2....the first one does not allow browsing, and the second is huge, and does allow browsing, and charges dealer prices for anything you carry out. I was walking around one time and found a BMW emblem, I thought Id be an honest guy and pay for it....until they wanted $40 for it. Im just frustrated that Griffin doesnt have any pictures to show. $500 on a radiator, and you have no idea what it looks like. I dont think thats too much to ask. Ron Davis website shows what their products look like in a camaro....Id like to see how they look in a GS.......for those of you guys with camera's and an other than stock rad....post some pics please.....
What about this one? I am thinking about purchasing it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7983726123&category=33602
reply John, I think thats a hell of a lot of money for a "no-name" radiator.....if you dont have a lot of heat to cool, Griffin makes some really nice radiators for $259, and then you could buy a dual fan setup and pay about what you would pay for that one off ebay. It looks pretty, but I would rather trust a brand name. Hell Ron davis makes one twice as nice for $100 or so more if your into flash.... rob
Rob, Here's my Griffin installed in my GS. I've since painted the endtanks with Barbecue black high heat paint.
Larry...ummm,...dude...there's a speck of dirt on your windshield washer pump.... MAN! That's a clean engine compartment! :TU:
Hi Larry. Your car is beautiful! I'm really not surprised, I expected nothing less from "Mr. Wizard". I think I am going to go out and wipe the dust from my air cleaner. The radiator looks awesome! Regards, John.
reply yeah Larry, I mean I always knew you had class, but damn that is one sweet setup you have there, do you have a pic of the fan setup from the windshield side. I am seriously thinking about going the griffin route. Is the Rad you have the 6568AM-BXX? Definatly looks like a nice setup. Rob
Rob, My bill from 5/16/2000 says 6-570EX-BAX. Don't know if their part #'s have changed. It's a 2 row, 1.25" with trans cooler. I had them change the outlets to 1.5", and move the petcock up 1"(to avoid interference with the rad support). I use the 271301 Fan clutch, and the 18"- 7 blade stock fan, with the stock shroud (20" opening)
Larry what are the measurments on your radiator??? i'm in need of on for my project car and was looking at the universal fit ones. Thanks,
Me, too, for my LeSabre. From what I can tell by cross-referencing on Autozone.com and O'Reilley.com, all 455 cars used the same radiator, or at least could. I'd love an aluminum radiator, but I'd rather spend the $2-300 difference on the 455 itself.
info A little FYI guys, the specified model rads fit a little better than the universals...with griffin and ron davis the difference was up to two inches win width...thats their big selling point, the universals have flanges that may have to be cut, or trimmed, and they may bit a bit smaller to fit that " one size fits most" catagory.
Did any of the suppliers listed earlier in this thread sell an aluminum radiator for a 66-67 Riviera?
The 66 Riv is the odd ball. It is exactly opposite from a 67 radiator. The cap is on the drivers side. Tanks are all but impossible for these. Most rad. shops in my area told me they never saw such a beast and that I must be wrong. Then I carried it to them so they could see. If you need one for a Nailhead powered car, you might try calling some of the dealers and asking them if they can reverse their normal radiators. If the car is powered by a 430/455, then finding one will be easy.
I just ordered the Summit #380331 (31 X 19) radiator for the LeSabre, I'll let you all know how it fits. (I'm also getting an aluminum parallel-flow condenser for the a/c, figured that while I had the old radiator out...)
more radiator help.... I have a friend that runs one of these Jegster fans and swears by it. He runs a chevelle, that would smoke my GS and he has never had a problem. Its a two row, 1in tube radiator with a single 1650cfm fam mounted in the shroud. What do you guys think for $358?
