Good morning Buick race fans, Yes, it's that time of the year again to announce the 7th annual Buick "get together." How do I know it's time? My son showed me a thread the other day on the Buick Turbo forum. They're already talking about when the get together will be this year. Nice! As in past years, my sons and I will be providing some "real" pulled pork slow cooked by our awesome chef Milton, AKA Stump puller455. This isn't some store bought packaged meat from Walmart. This is real meat falling of the bone! We'll also provide bottled water, some soft drinks, and coolers of ice. (otherwise, BYOB) If you can bring a side dish, chips, cookies, or dessert that would be great. The date is tentatively set for Saturday, March 16th. I say tentatively in case there are quite a few of you that can't make it that day. I do have a few dates to choose from. CONTACT INFORMATION... John Carroll 217 Henthorne Dr. Palm Springs, Fl 33461 561 722 0922 We've got lots of parking, and even a place to park if you bring a trailer. I've heard rumor that Steve, AKA Briz, is bringing a trailer with his racecar in it. Right now my recommendation is for you to park your car on the south side of the street in case he does a smokey burnout. I've been reading that it launches hard and then turns left. (I just had to say that!!!) I think I've covered all the bases. Oh ya, I should take a jab at the Skylark chapter of Buicks on the west coast, and central Florida people. I know for some of you it's quite a haul to drive your car this far. Get a bunch of Buick buddies together and just drive your Chrysler minivan over. LMAO!!! At least you'd get to hang out with a bunch of Buick brethren. That's it for now. If you have any questions send me a text. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
What’s happening Doc! I have no choice in a stepchild display. That’s all I’ve got. My older son’s got one, and my younger son’s got one. Hopefully Rich will come down and he’ll bring out another step child.
Distance is no excuse not to be there. If I can drive or tow 5+ hours each way and usually stay at least one night then the central and west coast guys can as well. As far as burnouts with the race car........ We'll have to see. 800 HP in a 2100 lb car on a non prepped surface can be somewhat unpredictable and possibly dangerous.
I need to just buy a dang car trailer and get down there. Outside chance the race car is at least running by then and lots of peeps know the car so that would be cool. If not then I’ll load up the 72. I’ll be retired next year so that’s easy. What are they gonna do if I’m gone one weekend in busy season this year? Fire me? Go ahead, make my day. Bahaha Cliff
Briz, That is very generous of you, I appreciate it. Truth is I’ll be retiring in about a year and plan to spend a lot more time at the track so I just need to bite the bullet as they say and buy a dang trailer. Cliff
Start shopping now. New is out of reach for most guys and a enclosed built to order is way pricey. I'd planned on going the new custom ordered enclosed route. At that time it was 6-10 month wait and 15K for a 24'. Counted myself lucky to find a 2015 used 24' with a few aftermarket pit pal options for 7K. Probably have another 3K into making it my own. Another thing that I didnt take into consideration is fuel milage. 8-10 vs 15-16. + having to bag the rear suspension of the truck.
I don’t think the car is so nice it needs an enclosed trailer but it could be some day.I think a basic open car hauler with a winch and removable fenders is all I need to get in the game. But yes now that you mention it the last trailer I bought at work I got really lucky as a shipment had just come in and all were spoken for except the last one. Good advice. Cliff
Cant wait just happens i will be in Florida that weekend! Shotgun in the 67 400 4speed with the top down !
It's almost here. Looking forward to Saturday. Weather liar says the weather is gonna be great. See you there.
Fred is correct, the weathers gonna be beautiful. It might be a little hot but it sure beats rain. Check out this crazy story… I’m over my buddies house and my phone rings. I didn’t have my glasses with me and I could’ve sworn my phone said Buick Bob. I’m thinking I’m talking to one of the two Buick people I met at the Auburndale BOPC. So I’m talking to this guy for about 10 minutes and we are discussing all kind of Buick related things. He tells me he’s driving his car down here for the show and he’ll be here Friday afternoon. I don’t remember exactly how the conversation went, but the guy kind of asks if he can spend the night here being he’s coming Friday afternoon. I’m thinking in my head, I barely spent an hour with you at a car show in Central Florida and you want to spend the night in my house? In my mind I’m thinking, I’m a real friendly guy but I don’t know that I’m that friendly. I kind of change the subject and asked him if he knows my buddy Rich? I tell this guy, Rich was at the show two years ago. He drives a 69 Gran Sport that is yellow with a black vinyl top. All of a sudden the guy that I’m talking to busts out laughing and he tells me, John, this is Rich. I about busted my gut open from laughing so hard!!! Of course Rich can spend the night because I’ve known him for years! It was just so funny because I thought I was talking to some Bob guy who I really didn’t know. Guess I should carry my reading glasses with me more often.
The Buick get together… GSFred told me about the sale on pork shoulders a week or so ago. My wife and I went to the store that weekend and picked up two pork shoulders and a whole chicken. My buddy Milton, a.k.a. 455 Stump puller is going to slow cook the pork shoulders, and we’ll put the whole chicken in a crockpot and cook it slowly. Then all of it will be busted up for some delicious sandwiches. Didn’t get a giant response from older Buick car people, so I decided to let my buddies that are local bring their older cars. We’ve actually done this before. All the Buicks park on my side of the street, and other brand cars park in my neighbors yard right across the street. My friends have been to the get together before, so I figured I might as well invite them and their cars. Should have some cool old cars to look at. Looking forward to this weekend because it’s going to be great. If you haven’t thought about coming yet you still have time.
Oh heck, I'll be off on a ship. Dang nab it -- bought a gift for the host too. I'll send it when I get back.
