i had the pleasure (or displeasure, depending on how you look at it) of checking out a '65 skylark with a 350 and auto trans in the "nearby" buick parts yard..

i think i'm gunna do it... i might move the engine back an inch or two though.. plenty of space between the firewall.. get some of that weight to the rear:Brow:

that may help the header fit problem also ( pics #1-#2-#10 and #11 ) . trans crossmember should be easy to move back a little , shorter driveshaft , could weld a small plate and braces behind the k-frame so you could just sorta slide the motor mounts backwards , and probably have to "massage" the floorboard/bellhousing area maybe . heater core outlets will be a problem area . have to use hydraulic clutch linkage if going to a 4-speed i'd guess . del

I was thinking Keisler 5-spd and doing a hydraulic clutch setup anyway..

problem is, whether moving it back a few inches (shifter) will allow me to keep it a bench seat car..

my 350 , stock location with muncie and hurst super shifter setup , with the bench seat in the rearmost location , the box i'm making for the shifter BARELY fits . i'm like 6'2" so no big deal for me , usually have seat back anyway . put some pics in manual trans section here . del

i'm 6'-3" so i'm in the same boat... perhaps mounting the seats an inch or so back will be necessary.
