Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule I wouldnt doubt but it will make a trip to the body shop after its lifted for some quick bondo and a paint job. And maybe new seats and door panels ready to go in too! Maybe a trip to the local chrysler dealership quick engine transplant!
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule I think the dent in the roof may be an optical illusion from the way the bag is laying....maybe I'm wrong...what a mess. Can you imagine the interior???
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule they actually bought 2 and the other has been in dry storage across town. it wouldn't suprise me if the roof was gone, with that much water and rust on the walls and the amnt still in the hole and the water rising and falling inside the concrete over the years it roof would more than likely be one of the first things to get eaten over time being higher and exposed to that much more oxygen and water. -nate
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule Yeah thats what I was thinking. How cool would that be if its in mint condition in that bag and all that crud in there now is just dirt and rainwater that seeped through the concrete? ray: :eek2:
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule Back in 1957 people could make a guess about the population of Tulsa in 2007, the closest guess will win the car:
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule I hate to say it, but that car will have more holes than a window screen... I kinda feel bad for the people with their hopes up, etc., expecting to see a nice car. But also, I'm saying "I told you so..." to the bozos that designed the "tomb" and wrapping.
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule Judging by the watermarks at the top of the vault and 50 years of wet storage, this thing would be like bringing up the '56 Ghia Norseman http://www.thecarconnection.com/Car...troit_Should_Have_Built.S283.A12202.html?pg=2 that sunk with the Andrea Doria. People / spectators are going to be paying money to see a ruined rustbucket . What a shame. '57-'61 Chrysler cars had some beautiful styling.
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule I don't mind paying to see a rustbucket. I don't like knowing that Coddington is going to be there jacking around with the car. With the way these shows (Orange Co, American Hot Rod, etc) make the employees, owners, and general atmosphere of the shops appear, its amazing that people are so excited by their vehicles and their work. I know it is mostly scripted drama for TV but, I'd rather see someone else attempt to make the car run. I think that the second car in storage theory might not be too far fetched. Bring up this rusty hulk and say "Boyd and the guys only have 6 hours to get this car restored and ready for the Tulsa crowd". You guys know how the rest of the story would go. Whatever they unveil, I'm still excited to be going. Brian
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule Just read in the paper that the capsule had a bunch of water in it. It also said it looked like at one time it was completly filled. Should be interesting! KJ
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule Some more images. http://www.tulsachevys.com/Images/buriedcar/index.html
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule At least the steel box appears in good condition according to sources. I would like to run that 50 year old gas! Guess those people thinking gas engines would be obselete was just wishful thinking. The car has to be toast.
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule If the stored gas can rusted away and leaked out it's gas, and lets say the vault flooded and floated the gas up, would the gas eat the plastic of the bag and of the cosmoline and other protective coatings trying to keep this car secure?
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule From what I just read they found no oil or gas residue in the vault. So maybe the cans stayed in good condition. I guess Thompson's water sealer wasn't available in 57. LOL
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule If the containers holding the gas weren't rusted through, how could the car be rusted through? Just a thought...
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule There's still a slim possibility that the plastic bags did thier job. I agree that the hole in the roof is an illusion created by the plastic. Trashed or not, Im still excited to see what it looks like!
Re: 57 Plymouth Burried in Time capsule a little wax,and polish, it'll look good as new or.....let Foose do an overhaulin' of it
