I am not sure the Buick community fully understands the quality of this block. The engine builders who have these in their possession know. So does Rod who has a 14:71 blower on one. I believe he has not tapped the capacity of this motor. For the naturally aspirated builders of large cu. in. motors, (500 to 700 in) heads are being developed now. We have already finish the ports on our heads this weekend. Now for valves and rockers. We will digitize these so anyone can have them. Order you TA block now! PS. Start asking Mike for an iron block for those classes that don't allow Aluminum!

    Ken,

Did you start with a solid-non-water jacket block like Rod did?

YES, It is time to step up to the plate with Buicks. Since we are going nitro we won't need water. People only need water if they are not running Alcohol or nitro methane. It is just one more thing I don't have to plumb for, or worry about leaks. Although I don't want any fuel leaks either. ken

Anyone using the new TA block for race only should get the raised cam block with or without water depending on your preference of fuels. Build one with the most cubes you can with the std. deck block. We are making heads you can run on a 500-700" motor. Its time we make 1200 to 1400 hp without a turbo or blower. We've been told with nitro and a blower we will be in the 3000 hp window. Its more than we need, but so what!

I was just wondering if you needed a solid block to run a ford gear drive.

Did you need to do any mechineing to the block?

The block is not here so I can't check for sure but I don't think so. I can't check until maybe Sunday at the soonest. I can check to see if any new bolt holes were drilled. If the gear drive is same as ford then maybe someone has a belt drive also. Check with Mike at TA, he was working on one for a std. Buick. A back injury has put me on the side lines.

The last time I talked to Mike I told him I would call on the 16 th if I have not heard from him by then.

Sorry to hear about your back.

Wanting answers, I called TA and talked to Mike and found out there are more delays on getting the block.

He told me i am not the only one. Two other people had just called for the same reason.

It looks it my be the end of the year now.

In asking more questions about the block, I found out there is going to be more cost involved.

The oil pan I just put on from SRE needs to be worked on. Steve will need to modify the pan rail (s).

Are you saying the pan you just got will work on a stock block but not a TA block????????????????

Mike said that he had to move the pan rails outward for the main caps.

So the $700.00 oil pan that I got a year ago will need to be adjusted

This is why I get annoyed with comments like this on my engine thread -

"umm dont want to sound out of line here but just under 40k and you have to machine the heads and put it together? "

These engines cost a lot of money to complete. You Buick guys should know what that means. I have to get everything in from the US, which cost me more.
Its worth it though when you hear these bad boys running.
    Cheers

I will repeat what I posted a couple years ago. If you want to race only a TA motor, get some partners, no it is not cheap. It is not cheap to full race a BBC or SBC either. Just ask Jason Line what one of those pro stocks cost to race after everything is built. Don't drive a race motor on the street it is unsafe for you and others. It only takes once to kill someone. It is OK to cruise to a rod show etc. weather you have 50 or 1000+ hp. Racing is expensive. Chevy guys pay the same for tires fuel etc. A street cheap small block chevy will never run in the 6's any time soon. TEAM UP. We will get the parts digitized as soon as we can so they will be available to everyone but it won't be tomorrow.

It does not bother me what others say. I am in a race with time. With my health getting worse by the time I get it, I may not even be able to drive it.

It is getting to the point where I can bearly walk now.

I could have built an entire aluminum chevy engine and installed it, for the price of just the buick block I am waiting for.

Mike I completely agree with you as my back is so bad I really don't know how long I will walk but I will pray it's a long time. I don't think anyone in their right mind will curse you if you need to make a change. As for me, I won't be driving any race car but I will help others to only race a Buick, for the love of them.

My issues are not completely from an injury. It is from a condition I was born with. It did not start to come out until I was 34 or so. It has gotten worse since it started.

Doctors call it HSP for short. I had a blood test to comfirm it in 2007.

If I did not have as much time and money in every thing else I have for Buick, I might make the change.

I have almost everthing else TA, Bulldog, Dodge, Procharger, one off custom made buick for the engine.

Hang in there mate, it will happen :Brow:
I remember putting a deposit down on my shortblock in 2009 :eek2: My car isnt finished so I still cant drive it yet.
Ken, nothing wrong with driving a race motor on the street mate :TU: I have to, they wont let me on the track with what I have, no cage, no parachute. Trust me when I say my car is built for the power of this motor.
    Cheers

I have a buddy that had a pan made for a stock block and it needed some adjustments for the ta block when he switched. no biggie.

I could not imagine the wait time you had. I bet that was bad.

I do not want to put a roll bar in my car either. I have talked to many that have put a bar in their street car and they do not drive them very much any more because of it.

There is only two tracks that I know of that will allow me (one 1/8 mile and one 1/4 mle).

It probally is no biggie, but I just spent $700.00 for it. And now I have to send it off again, then I need to come up with a new pickup as the one I have will not work for some reason (as I have been told).
