I would guess between 570-600hp , your cam and carb are the only things holding you back.

Just curious, what cam would you have chosen? The car has a 2800 stall converter and 3:42 gear 28" tall tires and I want it to still be ok on the street.

We built one very close only with fully ported iron stage 1s and a 990 cfm carb shop carb, and it made 570 hp and 565 tq with the same cam and 10.25-1 compression. your carb will be ok but I think a 1000cfm carb may pick you up a bit. the exhaust is WAYY too small you need AT LEAST dual 3" for close to 600 hp. My guess with your 850 carb is 600 hp I think it could make 625 with a 1000 cfm or even a dominator carb. JMHO

I typically go with a custom cam from finishline (scott Brown), there is nothing wrong with the cam you have you could just get more out of the motor and still have it streetable with something custom. I also think you have 10 to 15 horsepower on the table with a larger carb.

From what I am getting from people I have met what I was trying to do maybe even slightly overbuilt. I will go with the 1000 cfm carb after break in. Exhaust might have to wait for next winter. I will see how it runs first. Anyone close to Hagerstown Md?

I like the wagon. Very cool to see those at the track.

To all the folks recommending a larger carb ,do any of you realize a Demon carb is wet flow rated ,and will outflow any similar venturi bodied Holley by a large margin ?
Also with a single plain, the carb requiremnets are changed as well ,as the whole pacakge is much more eeficient with those heads and manifold he is running
That carb you have will make alot more than 600 hp regardless of the engine its boolted too so dont waste your money just yet
Oh and tell all the 9 sec Stock Appearing guys they cant use "only" a 2-1/2 in exhaust as well tp run well:Do No:

To the original poster ,sounds like a great combo, and once up and running ,after some tuning ,it will be a very fun street car for sure
    Good Luck

I have a set of Hoosier slicks 28x10.5 on an extra set of rims that I ran with last summer. Hoping they should still be ok because it's the bigest that will fit under the fender. They hooked realy well but I only had 450HP @ 5,800 rpm. 490ft lbs.torque

What kind of time difference do you think I will have?

This is my first 455 that I have built up fully. I have only had 300,340,350

If you go to any of the major buick events and want to borrow a carb to see the difference let me know I'll bring some. My car picked up when I went from the demon to the 950 quickfuel and even more with my Dominator. I also have a 3" x pipe system when your ready.

He has been building Buicks for 35 years and does a good job for the money.
These flowed 348cfm intake and 237cfm. Exhaust the iron Heads that I had before flowed 260cfm intake and 175cfm. stock stage 1 heads casting 12341786 1970 66cc chamber both on the same machine @ 28 Did not have much of an air horn to work with either only 3 inches long. So could be more. depending on who flow checks them.

My motor build was close to yours except I ran a smaller cam, ~.500 lift, 225.235 @.050, same heads, but flow was a little less, dyno was 502 HP, 547 torque. Put on a Bigs 950 after it was in the car and picked up some time in the quarter mile as well.

Dave did the motor in BQUICK......in like 2003.....9.96/132 best (Cecil) in 3710 GS. Lost track of number of passes but must be pushing 700. Haven't even changed valve springs.....
I heard he closed the shop in Hyattstown/Urbana, MD. Is he working out of his house in Hagerstown now?

Hi Bruce. He has mentioned your car to me before and the times you were turning with it. He could not remember all about it. What is your build. I know your compression is higher but what else? Yes he is working out of his new house in the Hagerstown area. Picked up mostly all new equipment and is having fun now.

Sounds nice! I was trying to achieve 525+ honest hp. From what I have learned here I am there and then some. Just cant wait to drive it and hear it.

    It's Stage 2 SE (only 306/243), 12-1, Wildcat int, 1.65 rollers, 608B HYD cam, 1050 Dominator.
Your flow numbers are great. I made the mistake of telling AMP that I drove it on the street so they scaled the porting back.

It all depends on how they checked them. The longer the horn going in the higher the number. We checked them with a 2 inch horn at first and got 318 @ 28 then we made on the same length as the runners in the intake and got 348. Your exhaust number is excellent. They are opened as much as you can without sleeving the head bolts that run next to the intake bowl. They really are to much head for the cam I am running. But if I change anything I did not want to go back into the heads
