TA performance has torque plates for the 350 for sale or for rent

    rod question

rod question to go along with the piston deal . since , and i'm guessing , that alot of us are using the stock cap screw rods ( mine are check'd , mag'd and beamed with arp screws and will be balanced ) will the extra piston requirements needed for nitrous / turbo etc be benefitial ? no advantage ? and whats the current line of thought as to how much H.P. the stock style rods will handle safely ? thanks . del

I was wondering that also. I ran 11.80@114 with a 125 shot of nitrous. I have the capscrew rods and Forged pistons that I got from TA in about 1993.

I could be intersted in a set like this as well.

    Del,
We had mine hummin' at the 700hp mark before we decided to have the billet rods made. That was also in excess of 7k rpm.
The late model rods seem to handle the pounding well.

I work for Advance Auto and can confirm that there are no 10 to 1 pistons available through our suppliers for the 350. The number that was in the system was a Sealed Power.

    pistons, rings and prices

Ok guys I have checked all available sources on rings and the following are available
Pistons with Sealed Power non file fit 5/64-5/64-3/16 .030 rings $652.00
This is an excellent quality ring for most applications
Pistons with Diamond file fit 1/16-1/16-3/16 .035 rings $694.00
This ring would be better for nitrous applications
Pistons with Speed Pro non file fit 3mm-3mm-6mm .030 rings $722.00
Shipping would be about $25-30 a set
I like this ring best for normally aspirated engines because they probably would make about 8 more HP
All of the above rings sets have std tension oil expanders with varying rates of tension Sealed Power the heaviest and Speed Pro the lightest.
These prices are if we make everything the same.
If we have enough (at least 4 sets each) we can make different pistons with no additional charge. The same goes for the rings. What we have to do is decide of a ring and piston combination for each four sets.
With head milling and block decking the pistons can vary in compression 1 full point.
Those that are interested and are prepared to send deposits email me at ampmike@aol.com with your individual desires on compression and rings and I will get back with you with a consensus.
I can have these pistons by Christmas.

Mike, I just picked up a '64 Riviera and my girlfriend (more like wife, we're that close to getting married) went apesh!t on me because I'm supposed to be saving money for our wedding, but i couldn't pass the Rivi deal up...so i'm going to have to put the 350 on the back burner for a little while and keep my head down...

I'm sorry about that... Unfortunately, I've become one of those "typical" buick guys... when everything is set up and ready to order, I mess up and have to back down.. this is the first time that i've had to do this and I am ashamed

    response to piston e-mail

mike : sure . my "A" motor won't see 'em but the "B" motor will . might as well grab 'em now and that will be one less thing to worry about later . no rush . my motor is a basic street strip ( reworked stock heads , crank , rods , a little too much cam and about 10:1 ) so i'm lookin for light , strong , notched , +30 pistons . the other details and particulars and recommendations i will leave to the experts . too bad the intake situation isn't moving as fast . when you get enough people lined up let me know and we can figure out the money end of the deal . thanks . del
    # edit : maybe if someone could stock a few extra pistons and ring sets for "just in case" that might not be a bad idea - ? #

    comp change idea

mike : thanks for the initiative , quick work and the " extras " . also , in case you still are lacking 1 for the higher comp pistons and if you have an extra commitment on the lower comp pistons , i would be willing to step on the motor a little heavier and you could bump me up to the higher comp setup . i feel that would be more interesting for me , it'll be a lighter use car anyway , and of course that would be a great rationalization to spend more money on the car also !! to tell you the truth i thought the " turn out " on the pistons was a little underwhellming , don't understand that , good idea . thats worth a blip on the radar at the neverending intake thread . of course with holidays etc coming up that makes a dif . thanks again . del

    Pistons....

I need a .866 pin for the pistons so they will work with the rods. I won't know until Monday if I will be definitely using the rods since I need to check on the rod bearing size. They have a 1.975 B/E and I don't have the journal size they work with. I need to know how much the B/E can be opened up so I can possibly use a bigger bearing. I am trying to use the stock crank so the lighter the better on the rotating assembly although it is not my preference to reduce the rods journal. It's hard to decide what the cross-over is between weight and strength when looking between stock and aftermarket parts. I would like to keep the rods I have and run a lite/strong piston over a stock rods with a standard-type piston.
