So I was able to get the trunk open and cleaned out today, took the seats, seatbelts and carpet out today as well and got it vacuumed up. There's surface rust, but the body is solid. Haven't found any holes yet. I'm falling more and more in love with this car every minute I spend with her

That happens rather quickly and very easily.

Without going back through the whole thread - and I'm not sure if you've mentioned it but what's the original color? It'll be located right below the windshield on the driver's side, in case you're not familiar.

I ask because we can probably give you a rough idea in terms of production numbers.

From one of the pics of the trim tag, it says 14-B

333 GS 455 hardtops produced in that color at the Flint plant in 1970. There's no breakdown for Stage 1 or Stage 1 4-speed cars but it's most likely a very low number.

That's one of the more rare colors.

I'm also in the process of fixing this wobbly but correct 1970 only driver's side mirror.

When I'm done it'll be tight and will have new glass. I'll keep you posted if you need one.

I don't know if the car has one or not but if it is devoid of one, you're always better off going with OEM parts when possible.

Also found these under the valve covers on the driver's side. I checked a casting numbers chart and think it confirmed that it was the 455, but the other number means December 13th?

Actually, there was 500 total GS455 Silver Mist cars produced at all plants in 1970 and yes, 333 were produced in Flint. However, Silver Mist was actually the 8th most common of the 23 colors offered on the GS455. Here is what your baby will look like when you get her finished. Enjoy the ride.

I have a question regarding suspension for this. I haven't spent a lot of time underneath her yet, just taking out the driveline so I could move her, but from what I can tell there is coil spring suspension in the front and the rear, however there is also air shocks in the rear. Was this something that was offered as an upgrade, or an aftermarket add on?

The coil spring suspension was standard on all GS and Skylark. The air shocks are aftermarket. Was your dad a drag racer? Many times the air shocks were added to help the car launch at the drag strip. More air was put into the right rear shock to load the suspension for the launch.

Most GS Stage 1s also had a stabalizer bar connecting the control arms in the rear and the control arms were boxed (closed in) as part of the Rallye Ride Control package. It was an optional item and not all GS455 had it. Does your GS have it?

I will have to look. And I will get pictures to verify as well. Dad did street racing, not sure if he did drag racing. I heard he blew the radiator in a street race.

Don't sweat it. Many of us also street raced at some time in our lurid past. :D

Yes but how many of them were stripped down bench seat Stage 1 4-speed cars? :)
