I drove Old Blue down to 2007 BPG Nationals (135 miles each way) and from the track to the hotel every night. I drive it to Norwalk (75 miles each way) and take my girl friend out in on dates during the summer. Till now, it's been very easy to cruise in. Drive to the track, let the Drag Radials down to 16#, and stand on it! Only once so far has it came home on the rolloff. I too am curious to see if it's as street friendly with the new SP1 and 950HP. I didn't have a truck and trailer till last week, so I just drove it. I want to race at Bowling Green, Indy, and Englishtown, thus the new hauling toys.

fourfiftyfive My car is a mess........

probably race fuel, but I have seen cars with compressions ratio's that high making serious power on pump gas too... some magazine engine build experiment with that... I think they got a ford 460 to over 800 ponies on 91 with 13:1 CR or soemthing like that... I'll have to go digging in my magazine box, but anyone know how exactly that is done? I'm no engine expert, but I'm trying to learn lol

I run around town on Marathon 93 or Sunoco 94. I actually made my 11.44 run on Marathon 93. I normally add some 110 or 112 @ Norwalk or Salem. Thanksgiving weekend it was about 45, I was out of high juice, and only had pump gas. I had just put the MSD6AL on and wanted to get Old Blue out in the cold air. Love that Feeling!

Another combo from the early 90s:

Performance: 11.86 seconds at 115 MPH in a 67 Skylark, shift point was 5700 rpm, ran on 5 gallons race fuel to 15 high test.

Weight: 3950lbs. with driver and 3/4 tank of gas.

Engine: .030 over 455, 11 to one forged Ross pistons, standard deck and stock reconditioned rods, HD rod bolts, stock balancer, stock flexplate, balanced assembly, Kenne Bell main and head studs, GSCA "Hemi Killer" cam straight up, Greg Tomlinson ported street/strip iron stage one heads, port matched SP1 intake, Kenne Bell 1.6 to 1 roller rockers, HV oil pump.

Trans: TH 400 with 10" ATI converter. Converter flash stall was at 3500 RPM.

Rear: 71 12 bolt posi, Moser axles, C-clip eliminators, 3.55 gear, boxed lower control arms, polly bushings, air bags, sway bar and stock application gas shocks. The 60' time was a best of 1.67 seconds, and the slicks used were 26" tall x 10" wide.

Exhaust: Kenne Bell 1 7/8" headers, GSCA 2.5" exhaust, GSCA 2.5" mufflers. All 1/4 mile times were through the exhaust.

Fuel System: 1/2" fuel pick-up in tank, 1/2" fuel line, Fram fuel filter, Holley blue fuel pump, 1/2" carb spacer, 4781 850 cfm holley with rear power valve block jetted at 84 and 92, drop base K&N filter.

Ignition: Stinger S-4 magnetic pick up conversion. The distributor curve was 20* mechanical advance at the crank all in by 2500 rpm. The ignition box would start to retard the timing 2* per 1000 rpm after max mechanical advance was achieved around 2500 rpm. It liked 37* advance at 2500 rpm, and it was about 31* at 5500 rpm. The system was OK, but the timing would bounce around some.

Front end: 1 1/4" sway bar, 255 series tire, street alignment, standard application gas shocks.

    Cheryl :)

Car: $800 dollar 68 Special from Texas with no rust.

Rearend: 12 bolt Chebby housing I had. $75 E-bay Strange spool, Moser C-clip eliminators, Richmond 4.11's and install kit. $60 Springs are a soft rate factory spring from Autozone, factory sway bay, Monroe gas shocks, boxed the lower arms. 9" Hoosier slicks, no tubes, 8" rims.

Front End. 68 Special springs, Summit drag shocks, 90/10 on pass side, 80/20 on drivers side. New control arm bushings and ball joints, no sway bar. Passenger side stop cut down to 1/4" tall.

Trans: Free TH400 from the junkyard. My lucky day Probably 400 runs so far and all I did was change the fluid. Governor weights ground for 5000 rpm shifts in drive. Torque Convertor $175, unused Coan 11" from a board member. Stalls about 2800, flashes about 3000.

Engine, .038 over 455 with Ross pistons, 11.5 compression, stage 1 conversion heads with some backyard porting. Window rattler cam with .474 lift. Stage 1 fuel pump from Advance Auto, Edlebrock Performer intake port matched, 1971 Qjet with 76 jets, 45 rods, DA sec. rods.Timing cover mods for oiling, distributor gear oiler installed, oil pressure gauge tapped off the rear of the pass side oil gallery. Stock rocker arms. TA 1-7/8 headers, 3-1/2 exhaust to axle with Dynomax mufflers. Mopar Performance sticker on driver side valve cover.

ET first time out with this engine: 11.79@112. 1.60 60' time. Both wheels in the air.
    After a little tuning 11.66 @ 114

Not sure of weight. Since it's a no option Special it probably weighs about 3500-3700 with me in it.

The Performer intake kills the top end. If I hold it out past 5500 the power really falls off. The intake does bandaid the 11" converter though. It leaves pretty hard for having an 11" converter and a long duration cam. An SP1 or an adapted Mopar intake and a 10" 3500 stall converter may be worth .3 or .4 seconds but those two things would equal 25% of what I have in the entire car. This is low $ fun and I have to resist the temptation to spend money on areas of diminishing returns.
