Kick71 i just put 1/2 line in with robb pump and i had a shut off on the return line.At idle it jumps 1/2 pound when i close it.I have not had it out yet.Good luck with your car.Your first run will tell you a alot!My first time down i left it in drive it shifted at 4800 then ran out of gas upstairs. The track is great to find out where you are at.
I never dyno'd my setup when it was built back in the 80's. Years later after a few changes I did try it on a chassis dyno. The car pulled only 337 hp at the rear wheels. The car weight actually went up a bit as I installed a Ford 9" with a Morrison adjustable ladder bar set up. Tied the rear bars into the suspension bracing and switched to Buick rallye wheels and several other things. The basic engine remained the same except a new fuel system (BG pump, return style regulator instead of a deadhead, 1/2" supply & 5/8" return, fuel cell), MSD Dig. 7+ ignition & Comp 9000 dist., 3 1/2" exhaust with a smooth X crossover (in prep for the new engine) & Scotty Brown mufflers, with 4.33 gears (again in prep for the new engine). Too much gear and too large of an exhaust for the smaller engine. The original valve springs are shot. But the car still wheeled off a 12.teen et at 111 mph. That was with BFG Drag Radials, full exhaust to the bumper and pump gas and two of us on board. The car now runs on MT ET Street radials with the new engine.
How do u find that converter 4 crusin around? Thats a good time with dot tyres and through the exhust.Would u ever pull the exhust 2 c the differance?
Yes, plan on yanking the exhaust this year, as I'm looking the dip in the 10's. The converter works beauty! Drives like a stocker. Oh....and I do plan on installing the AC back in the future. Nothing like running a mid 11 on a 90*day with a sweater on.
My Nephew has a 1965 Skylark and I do not know how much it weighs but the car has about 60,000 miles on it. The engine is simple .030 455 with about 10:1 comp. stock 430 heads Lunati stock eliminator cam 490 lift 264 274 duration @ .050 T/A SP1 Intake 780 Holley MT Headers SP TH 400 stock conv. from 2spd trans 373:1 10 Bolt. This car has gone the best of low 1140s 119 MPH. No roller rockers no porting, of course the weather was in the mid 50s. We are going to change the carb and do some suspension because he wants to get into the 10s with this combo. We will be going out in the next few weeks while it is still cool out.
I blew up the 400 2 years ago @ BPG Nationals, we built the 430. Here's what we did; 430 bored 0.060" over = 439 I sent the block to Gable Machine & Engine for the bore, align bore, decking, blue printing, balancing and mockup. I told Rick Gable ( nice old Marine, Nam Vet too) I wanted to shift @ 6800 rpm to build it accordingly, and I shift @ 6000 rpm and go thru the traps @5900-6000 TA 1633B sportsman forged rods, bushed pin JE pistons TA 1610, relieved for valve clearance CR7190+5 plasma file fit rings -0.010" in the hole, deck height TA 286-08HL cam, degreed in 3.5 advanced, .543" intake lift - .560" exhaust lift TA 1559 Teflon coated dual grooved cam bearings TA1524C double billet 0.004 hi performance double roller sprockets TA 2028 BJH SFI Dampner TA Stage 1 SE heads sent back to TA and converted to big valves 2.130/1.755" with Level 1 porting, -0.005" cut, flowing 320/217 cfm @ .550" lift Comectic 0.027" head gasket TA roller rockers 1.6 ratio 11.19:1 compression ratio TA 1533A high performance timing cover and serious oil pump Block converted to 0.625" oiling passages New TA deep oil pan TA1108A SFI flex plate I'm running an out of the box new B4B with a Holley 850 DP mechanical secondary's 3.90:1 rear gear, third member by Monzaz Rossler TH 400 with Coan 3800 rpm stall (1.58 - 60') Drive it on the street all summer.
Do you know what your car weighs race ready? What numbers are your heads flowing at .500" lift? Also how is the idle with that cam? I never even considered running that cam. Of course I would have to convert to the roller rockers to use it.
in the early 90's i ran an 11.90's all day with a 10.5 462 stage 1 heads that flowed 260 and 190 a ta 510 cam ta sp1 850 holley. i had 4.10 gears and a 3500 stall, no hop bars and an airbag in the back stock front end with adjustable shocks and removed the sway bar the car was almost stock looking except for the weld wheels and a couple guages, full interior and weighed 3900 with driver I kind of miss those days much simpler and just as fun:beers2:
The BPG meet usually isn't the best place to T&T, but I'll let you take my 1000HP down the track a few times and I'll bet you pick up at least 2/10ths _______________________ My combo and time is in my Signature ... only thing missing is the weight which is ~4100 lbs at the lites. Car was driven ~ 100 miles each way to the track that day.... The 11.99 was a bonzai effort snuck in before they booted my non-rollbar- convertible-azz out the door - it was one of 2 passes made that day after a converter change and gearswap the day before. It was run on a hot day where people were about 2/10ths off their bests so Im figuring with good air and some time to play with the launch I've got at least an 11.7x in it with the 3.31's
Should read 430 + 0.045 = 439 CID Car and myself staged weigh 4,015# 312/212 flow @.500 (TA flow chart) Idles ok, you know it's not a stock bumper stick, and you're not sneaking out of your girlfriends driveway late/early morning
Nice build! What kind of fuel and timing do you use? Any different on the track? How hot are your summers? ElectraJim
I went 2 11.90 passes 113mph before my tires went away. Did not get to the track last year with new tires. full 3 inch exhaust, 28 12.50 et streets, stock suspenion other than front drag shocks and lower rear controll arms. I will drive 30 - 45 min to a couple of car shows.I would take it to go anywhere. My combo is 72 462 with 10.25:1 pistons, block decked .010, 72 heads were decked .020 from what i remember ( has been together for 7 years) stock valves, home port and polish job, I gasket matched everything. Ta SP1 with 850 holley. Poston GS-110 cam. Stock rockers. TCI 10" 3,200 stall, 350 turbo trans, and 3.90 gear. Full interior, all sheet metal, no AC. Car weighs in at just about 3825 lbs.
I believe it was 8-9 vacuum, warm, in park, and about 6-6.5 in gear @ idle (875rpm) I run drum brakes all around with a new large Corvette Booster. I use pump gas and add some 112 @ Norwalk or Quaker. MSD Distributor has 21 degrees mechanical, with inital set @ 13 degrees, I use the light springs and have it all in at 2000. I unhook the vacuum advance @ the track, but use it back and forth, and around town. I have a new SP1 and plan on getting a 950HP, and hope to have it ready for Bowling Green, or at least Roberta's Norwalk Blast. I've never been to Bowling Green, but have heard it's a good time/race.
I drove my high 11 sec 65GS daily to highschool, then to J/c for a year racing it almost every weekend. Ran fine untill I sent my heads off to get ported by a suposedly pro buick guy and they ruined them.:af: My mid 11 sec chevy 4x4 is also a daily driver at times. I have driven it once from Ca to CO 1100 miles. Made it fine but almost put me in an insane asilum.
