I say that all the time....

And if that were NY, the homeowner would be charged with a felony and the murderer would be out on a no cash bail

And why exactly was this guy walking free in the first place...

Article says been serving time for a previous assault, then release the night b4 the murders on a second assault........ate you kidding me........then he murdered the lady. That murder, the truck theft, this family in GA, and who knows who else between OH and GA all could has been spared this fate had the court system done their job and kept this person........common sense says if this dude has 2 or 3 or more assaults it only a matter of time b4 he does more.........what happened to 3 strikes your out........cause it sure sounds like he had more than 3 b4 he was released b4 murder.

All this could had been prevented.

And the GA home owner was nicer than me, you come into this house thst way you leaving in a bag. If I spend the rest of my life behind bars for it oh well, ill know I protected my family

The homeowner definitely needs more range time...

Taking a life should never be easy or laughed at but around here, they used to say, "he needed killin'."

I also agree the homeowner needs more range time or a bigger caliber/gauge. One good 10mm or .45 hit would have sent him back down the steps on his rear. A single 12ga shot would have ended any further struggle.

When I took my CCW class to get the permit back in 2000, they spend 7.45 hours teaching us to say we feared for our lives and that we couldn't legally shoot someone, we only had a legal defense if we did under the very limited circumstances of fearing for our life or the life of a loved one.

I think that incident was clearly a justified shooting. Coming at anyone with a knife is a solid defense, especially if he's still struggling when the police arrive to clean up afterwards.

Those of us who advocate "emptying the gun" or "Killing him" should hope they are never put in that position. An ambitious ADA would probably prosecute the homeowner for manslaughter if it could be proven that the intruder was already on the ground when he was shot with another 10 or 15 rounds at close range. Depends on the jurisdiction. It has happened here in Florida, though.

Georgis is a ‘Castle Doctrine’ and ‘Stand Your Ground’ state. We are under no duty to assess a threat nor retreat from it, whether we’re at home, in our cars, or in public. The homeowner in the story would have been well within his rights to paint his basement with the perp, even without the perp being armed. Once a few questions were answered (‘do you know him? Did he have permission to be here?’) The investigation into the HO would have concluded. Why he didn’t (or couldn’t) is due to his conscience, beliefs, skills and or equipment. And, unlike the PA escapee, this guy wasn’t a news story in Georgia (yet). The HO had no idea he was dealing with an escaped murderer; sometimes you get a case where it’s a someone off his meds or having an episode. He did what he needed to do.

Kentucky is a strong stand your ground and castle doctrine state as well. Self-defense should be the cornerstone of any legal system. Shall not be infringed is a pretty clear statement to try to disprove.

I dont think any of want to take another's life........but if your in my house and I have to choose you or a family it's not much of choice.

I'm sure most of could squeeze off 7 shots faster than most ppl can fall flat to floor..

It was explained to me by several different law ppl. To be clear you feared for your life or your family's life, empty the gun because dead ppl tell no tale.......just don't shoot them in back.

I'm sure a left wing attorney could also argue well you only shot him once.......that shows you really were not that scared
