This has nothing to do with "The idiots in Washington". It's capitalism. Companies want to make products more cheaply, because we consumers want to pay less. The business of America is business. Its too convenient to blame everything on politics while completely ignoring the actual issue.

On this rare occasion I agree with Mike Tromm. No food first thing for me. 1 cup of black coffee and I will hold out until lunch...

A full time job isn't worth a damn if you can't live off it.

I've heard the same argument 100x times over- minimum wage jobs are for high schoolers not adults. Well imagine a world where minimum wage jobs were only staffed by kids.. forget about fast food joints, Gas stations, hardware stores, auto parts stores, banks, etc would only be open from 4 pm to 9. Then what? Why the hell should a senior have to work?

The reality of the situation is we all count on these folks to be at work to support the world. Sure it isn't glamorous work but its work that needs done. Why get mad at their wage? I always figured it was an insecurity issue.

I agree with all of this. If I do eat breakfast, it will be at home, on a weekend. I might have toast or an English muffin mid morning during the week from time to time, but I don’t wake up and hit the food either.

As far as the fast foods raising their prices to cover minimum wage increases, IMO the folks in Washington thought the business owners were just going to absorb wage increase. After all, if they raised their prices, they were going to shoot themselves in the foot. So how’s that working out? Classic inflation scenario. Want to earn more than minimum wage? Acquire a skill, trade or get an education that allows you to command a better salary.

Restaurants around here, whether it’s the fast-food type or the sit-down chains, are like crack houses. People are lining-up like I’ve never seen before to get their “fix”. It’s all but impossible to even think about loosing weight by frequenting ANY restaurant on a regular basis. Heck, for most of us as we get older, it’s hard enough maintaining your weight even by staying away from the crack houses!

FWIW, I had Waffle House this morning. Invited another couple from church. Got seated fast. All 4 of us ate what we wanted. Bill was 43$ I gave the girl 60$ and told her marry Christmas.

Exactly why is the price of the worst food available such a concern?

All fast food is in the same category "personal preference".
I get a breakfast from McDonald's 1or 2 times a month. If the line is longer than it was pre-covid maybe people haven't gotten their sense of smell and taste back yeto_O:D

Yes, our system of capitalism is to blame.. Nevermind it worked very well for 220 some odd years before this little gem came from the aforementioned "Idiots in Washington DC"

    NAFTA

Remember that funny little guy from down south that said this, in his opposition to that industry and job killing trade agreement..

    I will paraphrase:

If this is passed, there will be a great sucking sound as all the factories and the jobs that go with them, move south of the border

Ross Perot, during the 1992 US Presidential Campaign

We lost have 4.3 Million high wage manufacturing jobs since 1993.

    Here are the facts..

    https://mkus3lurbh3lbztg254fzode-wp...FTA-Factsheet_Deficit-Jobs-Wages_Oct-2019.pdf

And then, a couple years later, if that was not enough, Our leaders then completed the gutting of our manufacturing base by joining the WTO, and then including China into the WTO, with very favorable terms that with the stroke of a pen, took out nearly all of the US manufacturing base that survived the first onslaught from the "idiots in Washington DC"

Blaming capitalism is like blaming the tire for losing air, after you run over a spike strip.

And back on topic... This morning, as is our Sunday custom, Beth and I had breakfast at "Mom's Parkside Cafe" in thriving downtown Pine City... Walked right in, sat right down, and enjoyed a wonderful breakfast. I had a ham and cheese omelet, with a side of hash browns and a pancake and coffee.. Beth had French toast with strawberries and whip cream, coffee and a large milk. Bill was $27 and change, we were in and out in about 40 minutes.

And you wonder why we live out here in "fly-over land".

Buying breakfast must be something American. In The Netherlands/Europe it is normal to make it yourself at home.

I’m a little surprised to see your comments here. I thought you swore off this “type of bs” thread? Seems like the term rubbernecking might apply here… JK

Anyway, these are “entry-level” jobs. Which means it’s a place to get started. One who shows good quality work and work ethic, can often times quickly get out of that entry-level position and start earning real money. Fast food places are a great opportunity because they turn over in a hurry. This is pretty much economics 101.

When I lived in the Atlanta area, I frequented a breakfast place, four times a week. I saw the good employees advance to the point where one became the owner when the place went up for sale. The new owner kept the solid team and those who couldn’t hang eventually left.

This place has the best homemade cinnamon rolls you could find anywhere. Reasonably priced and still operating to this day.

In 1975 when I graduated they were getting rid of the trades in High school then. the machine shop went by by then the carpentry shop and the auto body and the other trades. When new school was built most trades at the school were gone.

Akron was the rubber capital in 75 and within 20 years it was all sent overseas and Mexico. It didn't even take that long.
Look in Detroit do they build cars there no in Mexico instead, they closed Lordstown and sent it to Mexico.

Where did those people go did our great government find them a new place or training to get a comparable job, no they probably went to those min wage 15$ hr jobs. Now what!

LOL the only union jobs are now government jobs.

Whoops sorry got off topic went into rant.

I eat peanut butter toast and coffee every morning
