What's the Deal with the buick/Rover head for TA Performance?

For anyone that noticed the welding on the heads in the picture, those were a set from our run of prototype castings. What we did was weld in aluminum sheets to make that lip under the intake ports, originally nothing was there. The purpose in doing so was that we then drilled and tapped holes in them (picture #2) so that a valley cover could be bolted on for use with open designed intake manifolds (intakes that don't have a bottom to cover the lifter valley). Production heads will have this cast into the head which will then be CNC machined out.

Why has TA developed the 300 head?? Wouldn't the market be bigger for 350 heads?
    I know I'd be a cusomer.....as long they aren't big dollars?:dollar:

I would be a customer too but it looks like the Head that was made will fit a lot of engines. The 300 motor that is being talked about made as much power as mine did with a completely rebuilt 350 with ported heads and a lot of good parts in it. I am still am hoping that 350 heads will be done just got to have patience. The economy has sucked lately and money is tight. I had to go back to school myself to change careers so this has stopped my buying power, but when the school is over with in a few years...Look Out!

they're not really 300 heads, theyre rover heads, that'll happen to fit thge buick 215 and 300/340 ...and perhaps even the 350 but with odd pushrod angle?...dont knoww how well that'd flow for a 340/350 though

The head will fit 300 and Rover engines, it wont fit 215 blocks due to their small bores. We're kinda stuck on production right now because of the foundry. We had some final changes made to the head pattern so we could go to production but the foundry changed something with how they pour the aluminum into the molds and the heads aren't coming out right, so we're waiting on them to figure out what's going wrong. :Dou:

I heard that some 350 guy won the lottery and is trying to give them a bunch of money to change the heads to fit a 350 motor LOL.

As I understand it, all that would be needed to run these heads on a 350 sbb is a hybred cam that swaps the int/ext lobes on number-2,4,3,5 cylinders.

And a custom or adapted intake in the 215/300/340 runner style.

TA should look into this option, as it would open these heads to a much bigger market.

At $8500 for the heads I would have a hard time paying for another custom intake manifold, another custom cam, and another set of custom turbo headers.... I think will still go with my ported irons, and SBC roller rockers.

$8500 is what triumph rover spares was charging in australia not what TA is charging. i bet the heads direct from TA will be $3000 or less but i'll let ya know when i find out. i am pretty high up on the list to get a set. hopefully next month

Just answering a question, not giving advise.

    Exept to TA:laugh:

But really, the heads are the hard part.

If they exist, why not explore the whole market:confused:

A modified cam and a single plane intake are easy in comparison to designing and building heads....

    Just say'n:Do No:

I don't know of any Land Rover owners that want to build up their Rover mills....let alone a 300 owner...unless you have a kazillion dollars for machine work as per the recent 300 Hot Rod mag build.....
Do you really do that much business in Europe with Rover owners???:puzzled:

I guess the AU people would be pretty mad if they were $3000 less from TA.... :spank:

We've looked into it. It'd be more of a conversion kit, we'd much rather have actual 350 heads for 350 engines. Correct port layout, much bigger ports, no special parts needed etc.

Not yet :bla: The market for these heads is much much greater for Rover engines than 215/300's. This whole project started off, and has always been, for Rover engines. It just so happens that they fit 300's as well :Comp:

Those were the first available proto-type set that they sold, the one and only of anything available much before production will usually be expensive (supple vs. demand). When they go to production we'll sell heads at the same price. TRS sold those heads for that price because it's a one-of-one set of heads, available a year+ before production. That's not the final sale price by far :)

TABuickMike, when are they ever going to be available? How about some youtube videos on the progress or engine test to wet our appetite? I've been tracking this product for a while. I even created this tread to stir interest. I don't want to give in and buy a chevy ls block, but it seems like this dream will never happen?? Promote your product please!!

Hey everybody, the heads in the first "test" production run of 25 sets are all machined up and in the process of getting valve jobs to be sent out to Australia. They all look good so far so we're going to place an order for another 25 sets sometime soon. If you would like a set and haven't been put on the list, please call and reserve a set to make sure you get one from the next run. We're still working on making guide plates so that you can use Chevy style rockers. Pricing is looking to be around $2795.00. Part # TA 2150.
