the way I see it is you have 3 choices and NONE of them include him ever touching or seeing your car again 1) He gives you a total refund 2) He pays the cost for you to have it stripped, prepped, and repainted elsewhere. if not 1 or 2 3) He may speak with your lawyer
I did not see where you said how much you paid for this paint job. How much did you pay? Was this place and Econo, Electro, Facto-Bake or such business?
Josh, $XXXX.00 - $2,100.00 = lesson learned If you're already upset at Mr. Perfect Camaro, and he's not interested in making your car as nice, then I would move elsewhere as these guys have suggested. Live with the paint until you can find someone that can do it right or you could do it yourself. I just hope this joker doesn't think a Buick is not worthy of the kind of paint his Camaro has. Ask him this question, if it all has to come back to bare metal, and all the body work needs redone, then what is it that he did that deserves compensation? You should get a full refund. If he doesn't budge just take the 2100.
X3, Josh... hold that guy responsible, even if you need to take it to court. He did not fulfill his end of the contract as agreed upon, plain and simple. Don't accept his partial refund, and certainly don't allow him to lay another finger on it. He owes you full repayment or a full prep/paint job/repair elsewhere at his expense. I can't believe he drilled holes in the trunk lid without consent.. wow. I'd contact the BBB on this Chevy-biased shop and let him know it too.
Did you get a written contract? I had a friend years ago that had this happen on a 64 chevy, he gave the guy a chance to fix the car and it came back worse. That is when we opened our shop...his was the second car in progress. Stripped it and fixed it. My friend sued the shop and went to court, the judge found for the shop because they were not given ANOTHER CHANCE. Do not threaten to sue him. Ask him nicely, then get some legal advice before you proceed. So ..... how much did he charge you?
OK this is what I would call mid coast paint job. I shopped around and fond some places cheaper and some places more. Bottom line is I saw 3 other cars this shop had painted and all were top notch paint jobs. Now if almost 5 grand is cheap ass with me taking the car to him stripped then I guess I'm a cheap ass. Now I know as well as others that a good paint job coast but I did not set the price to do the job he did. The new is I gave him the option of fixing my car correctly or told him I need a refund or he could pay another shop to fix it. He is supposed to call tomorrow and we can discuss what he wants to do. I have been as bout as polite as I can be to try and get farther when I really want to tell him were I want to stick my car. I will try to post some pic's in a little bit. Thanks for all your guys advice and comments. Josh
IMO $5000 should get you a nice paint job since the car was 90% rust free and all the bumpers, emblems, door handles etc was removed by you.
Get your money back and sue for damages !!!!! I do better than that in my shop at home. Not only did they mess up the paint they cut holes! Thats just wrong. I WOULD BE PISSED!
Im sorry to say this but thats a horrible job they did, I'd be embarassed/ashamed if I were the shop ownerou:
WOW>>>>I would be livid! No way I would let them touch it again. Get your money back asap!:af: It will need to go back to bare metal. It looks like the primer was not mixed properly and never fully cured. The pits/bubbles look like solvent pop. I would be curious to know what kind of paint, primer, and sealer was used. I have seen cracks like that from primer lifting under the topcoat. The only way that will ever take paint is by stripping it all back off. This will not be easy-fresh paint like that will smear like gum when you try to DA/sand it off. It will probably require a chemical stripper which will be very time consuming and messy. Dont take offense, but he gave you a $1000.00 Maico paint job. It looks like the body gaps were set with a 2x4 and sledge hammer. It will cost a lot more than $5000.00 to get it right now. I wish you were closer, I could help you out. Dont give up.:TU:
Get what you can up front, take pics of your car and the camaro, and sue the Bastard.:beers2: And please- I don't know how old you are, but NEVER take out a loan or put it on plastic. Buy a beater for a daily and put your earnings into your Buick- you CANNOT have a show quality daily driver!!- Unless your name is Trump- then-go for it. ( BTW- his lambo sold on E-Bay a couple of years ago )
How could someone let your car out of their shop looking like that. I think I would be in jail if that was my car! Bill
