The only LSX headers I have any experience with are the Doug's headers I bought for this swap. These motor mounts were designed to locate the engine as to work with those Doug's 3338 headers.
The new motor mounts are welded up and installed. It took a long time, but I got everything just where it needed to be. I also have to decide what color to paint the coil cover / valve covers. Suggestions welcome!
Great work Steven!! Thanks for all the detailed descriptions and photos.:TU: This is what I would like to do with a 65 Skylark convertible, once the big :dollar: :dollar: start rolling my way. I really like your engine color choice as well, since you will probably fool some people, if you so choose that is.
All the little things are going on. Brackets, fuel lines etc. I saved myself a ton of time during the install by creating most of it on the engine stand.
I like the raw look of the covers myself. Can you take D/S valve cover off with the booster in place?
Yes, but I have to remove one alternator bolt and take the belt off to slide it in there. However, with a serpentine belt, this takes about a minute.
I agree. Also, I would put some Buick 400 or 430 decals on the covers. It would be fun to sit; and, listen to the comments of people at car shows.
VERY clean setup. Nice work on the fuel lines too! I like the cylinder head covers, are those on top of the original LS covers? Painted might not be a bad choice but I like it how it is currently. :TU: I'm guessing you won't be putting the A/C compressor on the bottom of the passenger side of the motor? It doesn't look like there would be enough clearance between the idler arm and compressor like on GM's trucks. Too bad you didn't stick with v-belts. p
I am planning to use the Kwik brackets for a top mount compressor. You have to notch the frame on A-bodies to run the low mount set up.
AWESOME! This is exactly what I want to do to my 66 riviera. And to the "purest" I understand what you're at saying but I find most of you never even drive your car to begin with. My definition of a purest is DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE! Now don't get me wrong I'm a purest in many instances where I stop is the collectibility of the car you plan on modifying. For instance as far as muscle cars go I'm HUGE roadrunner fan. 68-70. If I were to ever own however I would get a satellite because I would be dropping a viper engine in it. My 66 is not so collectible so I'm going with some lq4/lq9 with some snails way down the road. /rant........I don't even know why I ranted HAHA
