Bob your always welcome bro. There will be no prtying in this tent. Not till it's done at least. Thanks Adam for the lead, I will check it out. Doug, I will have it screwed down and if you notice in the pic, I always frame out the rear wall because I live in the windiest spot. We aren't even allowed to put up solid fences!! They have to be a breeze through if you can believe that. But having the rear wall like I do, it won't be moving anytime soon. 65gs76limited, I will be out there every chance I get. I have the small propane bullets, and they work awsome!! Besides i'm no light weight and welcome the cold!!! Thanks for everyone's input so far. Keep it up.
I had one of those portable garages with steel frame & i found it twisted & battered stuck to my barbed wire fence 100 yards away after a 60+ mph windstorm, and i had it staked to the ground. Are you sure the "code enforcement" police wont come after you?It wouldnt bother me if i were your neighbor, but some people........uzzled:
Nice work!! A couple of comments: In our town, if I hosed the sand into the street I would have a police cruiser parked in my driveway within the hour! I noticed the Colorado plates. They don't use salt out there? Hooray for them! Money - I could have purchased two GM crate motors for what I have in my nailhead. I purposely do not keep accurate track of the $$ I spend because it would make me sick. I throw the slips in a file and never look at them again unless there is a problem.
I'd say it's a little loose here. No complaints about the sand, and I live on top of a hill. But this tent is so screwed to the ground that it won't move unless I want to move it. Plus the framed out rear wall is also anchoring it down. You can barely shake it.:bla:
John i'm not sure what to do with the engine. I might set it aside for now so I can get everything else done. I might even grab another 401 from a friend that I know runs and just go through it quikly maybe throw in a new set of bearings and paint it up nice. I'll do the original engine next year when I replenish my mad money stash!!!
So I haven's touched the car since fri. Sat tent and 2 days off. Here's a few pics of the beautiful interior!! It all comes out tomorrow. Are the emblems for the door panels available? Anyone ( Walt )?
End of today. Body is totally stripped. More rust inside than outside?? Very strange. Must've been leaking into the interior for many years.
Must be something about the western climate. The 2 '66 GS's I got from California were the same way....nice on the outside, but lots of surface rust on the inside. Weird. Wonder what causes that? East coast cars are often the opposite....nice interiors and rusted on the outside.o No: Keep up the good work!:TU:
Wow, I just stumbled across this thread. Nice work Joe. The value of having good friends with skills and are willing to help you out is priceless. I enjoyed the same luxury when I did my complete drive train upgrade. Hey, that temporary work bench filled up fast!! Also, I do not see 1 beer bottle in any picture. How did you manage that? My projects always wind up that way  Keep the pics coming ... this is great.
Ha ha ha!!! No beers until the job is over!! thats the only way everything gets done. The interior is on the bench. All stripped down. My buddy Eric is an animal, custom home builder and car restorer on the side. I have helped him out many times in the past doing his frame off's. This is the first frame off i've done and who better to help me but a guy who is a machine when it comes to working! He has a gaggle of cars himself. He has 2 restored GN's that he can't sell. I put them on craigs list for him. No computer if you can believe that!!
Thanks Marco. Dude are you anywhere near Burlington nj? I was told tp # 6 to pennsy pike. The Wheel Works guy has my 65 Lark wheels. Making those babies 9 inches wide!!! They are supposed to be done tomorrow.
Ok so I got the frame and suspension parts painted today and does that new eastwood paint look good or what?? I will take better pics tomorrow. Check it out.:bla:
I have a 68 rear so it's very wide. An inch wider on each side.I had the rim guy give me the most outer spacing so the rim and tire just sits inside the quater. Now in doing that, the guy could only make me a 7 in wide rim with the offset I needed.(one piece wheels) Now after I had the new rims and tires mounted, I got underneath the car and to my amazement there was about 3 1/2 inches of room to the chassis. So I figure i'd go 2 inches wider and with the low profile tires i'd be overall 2 3/8 wider than what I have. I stuck the tires up in there and it looks like i'm good. Maybe even a little room left. I'll let you know how it works out. I should be allright. I was shocked myself.
