Bill some of my 283 Chevys had 194 valves too , but they liked to high end of the RPM range . My 302 with 2.05 and 1.6 liked to be shifted at 10,000 .

Sean's 350 made 400 HP NA with home ported heads, and a 212 cam. I am not swapping cams. I might later but not anytime soon.:TU:

The 70 GS 350 made 315 factory stock so 400 is not exciting . Do the math and figure what it took to push my 3980 lb car into 11.90's N/A

Great results, those numbers will support 550+ hp with the right cam

Sean how do you know those numbers will support 550 hp , you haven't made it YET .

I know your 350 makes over 500 hp at the crank based on your et and I'm sure your heads do not flow quite as well as Casons.

Also because VERY similar flow numbers made 550+ hp on Rob Margels 350. And Bill Mah's 1000+ hp 350 engine made about 550 HP NA (even at 8:1 comp) before the supercharger.

Show me YOUR numbers . After I built the short block you you encouraged me to build to test heads , intakes and turbo , no contact from you .

Also you have NO idea what my heads flow as you have never seen them or been given the flow numbers .

Guys Guys! First of all this 350 didn't make close to 315 HP bone stock. I got the dyno sheets to prove it. Also, this is mainly a street car. I WILL be driving it back and forth between college and home for the next 4 years. So please take this into consideration before telling me to add a bigger cam, or a higher stall converter, that just isn't practical for me at the moment. Now if I still had the stock cam and converter that would be an entirely different matter. Also, I will be picking up my 1.65 Roller rockers from UPS tomorrow, which puts me around .480 int. .490 ex. lift with this cam, I believe. So, I will be putting this added flow to use! Going back, I don't believe oversize valves any larger are possible, so I am happy with what I got.:3gears:

I did not say YOUR motor made 315 hp . I said a 1970 GS 350 made 315 hp . In 1971 the government stepped in with regulations about pollution control which caused the manufacturers to lower compression and I think Buick used 8.5 compression . So I am well aware of of what these engines came with .

don't forget, 1970 was also a gross hp number. they didn't go to net ratings till 72.

    that puts the 'net' 1970 GS 350 number around 250hp. i'd say a ~150hp / 60% improvement isn't anything to sneeze at.

    I think Buick used 8.5 compression .

    yep.

Mike, I would love to get you my Twin kit, my heads as well as my intake that is currently being built however I had to scale back my projects and focus on getting my cars done, that is what I told you a few months back (sorry if I was not clear enough about that). I appreciate your willingness to help with testing but shipping all these parts back and forth to you while trying to get my car together really adds complication to getting things finished. My 350 has been torn down again to add the custom rods and lighter pistons as well as hopefully a girdle, without doubt it will be making well over 600 hp and tq in fully street friendly form with a few psi.

Passenger side head cracked an intake port, pouring coolant in #6 cylinder. This happened on the 2nd dyno pass. It's going to be a tough week to get it back together. I am having a shop do the work on it, I can't do it anymore.:ball: First pull made 280 HP, but the tune was bad, and we were about to change that!:af:

Really sorry to hear that. How would that happen? Sounds like maybe too much porting. Are you going back to the stock heads? If it does turn out that the wall was too thin to the water passage maybe whoever did the heads would do another one for you N/C.

Either way, sounds like you need a little break. Just enjoy it the way it is for a while. I'm sure its still fun to drive.

I am not sure how it happened. I had the head porter check for cracks and they checked out before they left his shop. No, I am not going back to the stock heads. I don't want to have to pull the driver's head too. I really don't have any more information because I came to this conclusion with a compression tester, and of course the compression was good, which is why it is not the gasket. I think it will all turn out fine. However, when it's back together, I am going to give it a good break in on the dyno again. Getting stuck at the track would SUCK!:(

I am going to have the stock heads put back on. The passenger side ported head is cracked bad! I move into college next Thursday and I can't risk this repair with this kind of deadline. And I am SICK of PAYING MONEY! I think I am done until next summer with these modifications. When driving a hot rod every day, its tough! Cheers
