Spoke with John Osborne today, he runs the same class as Vortecpro, G/SA, and he says you must run a single spring with flat wound dampener and beehive springs are accepted. Pushrods are another open area which would allow 3/8 pushrods to be used with the 68-69 rockers and roller rockers are permitted as long as they are 1.55 ratio. The maximum allowed valve lift for the class is .398 intake and .466 exhaust. John has run as quick as 10.80 which is quite impressive for standard heads, stock manifold and quadrajet.

All "on the nose" means is the maximum lift of the cam. The "nose" is the highest point on the camshaft, from the base circle, so maximum valve lift (and spring pressure) occurs there.

I thought Mr Jones explained that to you in a different thread. But anyway.. that's it.

And considering the input from Osborne on the rules, it's an absolute no brainer to call TA and get a set of 1.55 roller rockers. You can then forget about valve train issues.

Its been awhile but aren't the 68-69 rockers 1.59 vs 1.55?

I also spoke with John and he was very helpful. The TA rockers are the answer along with a limited travel lifter, but this is my last race with this engine. It will be interesting to see how quick this thing can run.

I think that's right. According to the '67 chassis manual 1.59:1 is noted. There were two different castings if I remember, the earliest in '67 were a little thinner in some areas. My late '67 came with the beefier versions that carried into '68-'69, and if I remember right, the valve lift I measured with them versus lobe lift indicated they really were right around 1.6.

Believe me, only Buick guys know the rocker ratios, all the inspectors know to look at are the numbers that the manufacturers stamp on the rocker arms. I really doubt that it would be a problem, especially since no one runs a stocker that is earlier than a 1970 and most are later. After NHRA factored the 1970 Stage 1 engine from 360 to 400 hp before it was ever raced was cause for Buick guys to push the rules as much as they could. Things like the "Canadian Buick" rearend and the 1971 carburetor body with larger venturis that you could buy with no part number were just a few of the things we did to our '70 car.

Thanks J.W. You painted a better picture in my mind. I get it, and I will be sure to try to never use it in a sentence. I have been getting along just fine saying maximum lift spring pressure. That is until some else comes up with yet another way of saying it that just flys right on by me again.
