Well I went to the local auto parts here in Mayberry and he only carries "oem" oil filters .

What's everyone putting on thier 455's ? This one runs out at 70-80 # of oil preasure at highway speeds . OEM filters ok ??

Thanx for all your help . We do have a napa about 15 miles from here .

That seems like alot of oil pressure to me.I bet it has a Hi-Vol. oil pump.I would be worried that the cam gear will get wiped out with that much pressure over time.IMHO,I would look to see if it indeed has a Hi-Vol pump and either replace it with a std pump and spacer plate or put at least a bronze distributor gear on it.Or both.

    Bruce,
The AC PF-24 is a good filter. Stay away from Fram, I have heard some negative things about them. IMHO, the best filter to use on any car is the System1 reusable filter. It has a high initial cost but you never need to buy another filter again. It features a stainless steel filtering element that you simply clean and reuse. It is less restrictive than any paper filter. It has a ribbed aluminum housing for cooling and the filter comes apart for cleaning and inspection. It seals with reusable O-rings. I haven't bought a paper filter in years.

Larry, I just put the long System 1 on my 65. What's the best way to clean it and how often?

    Doug,
I take it apart and clean it everytime I change my oil. I leave the filter on the engine, unscrew the cap, pull out the element and cone, and wash it in simple green and water. I let the element dry in the sun(could use a hair dryer) and wipe everything else with a dry , clean rag. Then just reassemble. I'm using the original o-rings, and they haven't failed or seeped yet.
    Bob,
The current Jegs catalog has them, part #'s 888-312361BP-119.99 (short filter), and 888-512561BP-134.99 (long filter) I use the short filter(3 7/8"), it is about the size of the stock filter-PF-24. The long one(5 7/8") might fit, but I think on my GS, it would hit the lower radiator hose.

Napa gold filters are made by wix, thats all I've ever used on Mandys GS. I by them by the case, they give me a little deal on the $$ then.

I just switched to a K & N Gold and picked up 10 lbs of oil pressure.

    Better flow I suppose.

Bruce, a 10 pound increase is awesome! I have been using the short blue delco filter. On the fwy, when all is hot, I am cruising at 50 lbs @ 2800rpm. They say the pressure at the rear main should be like 10 lbs less. I have been using penzoil 30 weight, and a booster plate, taking pressure off the sender on the front right of the block. If you don't mind telling me all the details of the "before & afters" that would be greatly appreciated. I am going to check out this K & N Gold filter on Summit now.
    Thank you.

I had an AC, then Fram on. I think I'd rather have slightly less filtering and more flow. My Stage 2 makes great oil pressure and I'm only running 10/30 oil.
The new TA cover has to have something to do with my overall pressure but the K & N did help too. They have them at Advance Auto Parts.

Thanks for the reply and info Larry!! Hmmm, I will have too think about that one. $120 would buy a lot of filters. However I think the Mobil filters are about $12 a pop. Do you think the System 1 is better than the Mobil filters? Would definitely be nice not too have too worry about buying a filter again.

    Bob,
System 1 claims their filter is less restrictive than any paper filter, about a 1 psi drop across the filter. For me, just having a filter that I can take apart and inspect/clean is worth it to me. That's not to mention one less oil filter going into some landfill with all the associated toxins inside. 10 filter changes with a Mobil1 filter and you'll be even. How long will that take you? I'm sure the Mobil1 filter is a quality filter, I know Wix is a trusted name. I think the System1 filter is the best out there. Alot of the fastest guys in the N.E. GS/GN club have switched over to it. That ought to tell you something. Just my .02

I used A Stock DELCO filter on my 455 electra and it BLEW UP MY ENGINE! Accually I think it was the rear main or something but still was caused by the oil system.

Best store bought filter for the money in my opinion is Purolater "Pure One." Has 93 percent filtration efficiency and holds 15 grams of dirt. The Mobile One filter has the same efficiency and holds 18 grams of dirt. Mike D.

I will whole heartedly agree that a System 1 is the way to go. I just fired up my new Stg 2 motor last Saturday. I ran it for about 15 or 20 minutes, then let it cool off. I then took the filter apart, looked at the contents (Small dirt particles, paint chips, etc.), cleaned it and put it back on. Took about 20 minutes. I checked the valve lash, and fired it back up. The System 1 filter is worth the peace of mind of knowing what's going on in there.

    Have fun.

    Got one[system1]

going on my V8 455 Regal
    BUT
you won't see it till the early part of next year because my armchair won't release me until I set a date to start working on the REGAL.
Really thou the motor is in the final assembly stage.
Now thinking on having some more flow work on the exhaust side of the iron ST1 heads for the 290-08h cam.Their pretty much stock ports now.
