Where is my coil supposed to be attached???

I measured the resistance of the wire from the STARTER, (is that where it is supposed to come from?) and it was .1 Ohms. I added the ballast resistor that was suggested by Crane Cams for my point free ignition. When I replace my two piece harmonic ballancer, I'll see if it will run.

Will it hurt the engine to start it for a minute with no balancer??

No, the wire that supplies voltage to the coil comes from the firewall connector below the brake booster. That is where the engine harness comes through the firewall. That wire is a resistance wire unless someone has replaced it. It should measure 1.8 ohms. The wire from the "R" terminal of the starter solenoid bypasses the resistance wire by supplying full battery voltage to the coil DURING CRANKING ONLY. When you let go of the key, voltage is dropped by the resistance wire to provide longer points life.

I wouldn't start the engine without a balancer. Have a little patience:)

So, I guess if it starts fine like this, there is really no good reason to change it?? Especially now, since there are no points involved..
I have full battery voltage to one side of the ballast resistor at all times with key on and in the crank position.
