THis is a real question:Do No: . I don't have a bracket to attach it to. When I gor the car it was just laying down on top of the timing cover. I hose clamped it to the alt bracket but I would like to see how it is supposed to be mounted..

    Thanks,
    Jay

Is there a forum somewhere that answers simple questions?? Did I post this in the wrong place???

The coil bracket bolts up right to the front of the engine, close to where it was laying. 5/16" bolt if I remember correctly.

A lot of guys aren't running a coil in the stock location, maybe. I actually tried to find it in my 68 chassis service manual, but couldn't find a diagram. I've never seen one in stock location on a car.

BTW, if a specific topic forum isn't getting the attention you need, feel free to repost in The Bench, where a lot more guys will see it.

Many cylindrical coils are designed to be mounted vertically for reasons of cooling efficiency and dielectric coverage. If the factory made the mount for it to be held in a vertical position try to keep it that way if you possibly can.

I have several coil mounting brackets if you need one.

I would love to mount the coil on the firewall, but how would I get a long enough coil wire without buying a set of plug wires and making one??

I think I have it figured out now. The alt. bracket bolt should extend through the back side of the waterpump far enough that the coil bracket can be attached with a nut?? Or should the alt. bracket have a threaded hole in it specifically for that purpose? I have an aftermarket alt. bracket with only one bolt hole and a slotted area for belt adjustment.

THanks for your reply. I already bought and aftermarket universal one.. I'll make it work somehow. You wouldn't happen to have the black plastic center vent ductwork in your back pocket would you??

How about a one piece harmonic balancer?? Trade you even for my custom two piece model???:(

It willl pay you to buy a 71 Assembly Manual.

Where do I get one?? I need a wiring diagram as well.. I have learned two things recently. An oil filled coil will overheat if it is mounted upside down and does not have a ballast resistor..

The bolt I am talking about, goes into the head. It attaches the alternator/AC bracket to the front of the motor. It is in the center of this picture, behind the copper oil line.

Your Buick should have a resistance wire from the factory, no ballast resistor required unless someone rigged up a 12V wire from the fuse box...
